  1. I use the infiltrator class for ME3 and instead of being a sniper I opted for the quick cool downs like you mentioned above. The level up perks for each ability go from 1 to 6 now (1 to 4 in ME2). 1-3 being static and 4-6 being able to choose between two differing abilities (Like increased head shot damage VS 30% quicker power cool down time). Whatever class you choose it will be fun. They did a really good job with the co-op multiplayer too. One choice for the level 6 invisible perk is to remain hidden after firing one power. This one is awesome on the hard / insanity difficulties because it lets you kill stuff with the inferno blast without anyone insta-gunning you down. Invis is good for aiming your teammates powers at well fortified positions and reviving dead members.

  2. You forgot that he went back in time. To defeat Ganon.

    AGAIN!

Well tell him when he gets a chance to warp back in time about a week ago and VOTE. At least this discussion won't exist in an alternate reality. Just make sure he doesn't bump into himself or sadly a time paradox might occur. AND we wouldn't want that now would we!?!?!?!?!

PS: Two Willrocks trying to outsolo themselves in a duel would be cool. Use the time machine and make it happen (Or some recording black magic)

  3. I don't really think there are many favorite X themes. I know a lot of the mavericks from the first game are pretty popular but it seemed a lot of people from the GMRB actually chose mavericks from the later games.

I thought X2 and X3 had the best music personally. X2 had a bunch and Zero's theme. Crystal Snail and Bubble Crab were my favorite. Apparently Capcom really liked Bubble Crab's music since they remixed it as Duff McWalen's theme (Tidal Whale... Who cares they were tripping on Guns and Roses names).

  4. I guess my argument was never meant to be people picking the same robot master as they did previously. I also didn't mean that the ones I listed as 'most popular' were ones picked a lot in previous competitions. Those are simply the ones that stand out the most and are usually the first to be snatched up due to popularity of Mega Mans 2 and 3.

I commend you for taking a much lesser known/liked Robot Master and making remixes with him. I was also surprised to see Blizzard, Cold, Skull and Pirate Man in this years comp.

I was equally disappointed to not see ones such as Pharaoh, Toad, Bright, Drill, Dive, Ring and Bomb Man. There is always next time and I hope people read this post and take the initiative to branch out from the well known RMs to the lesser known and make awesome music with their source tunes.

Here is Drill Man. I made it during the two week final battle for practice. It's not the best but better than nothing.

  5. The Grand Robot Master Remix Battle was inspired by Mega Man 6. That was my game back in the day, and I loved the premise of a World Tournament for robots.

My favorite Mega Man game is Mega Man X4. My favorite Robot Master is Knight Man.

A world tournament for a world music remixing tournament. Simple yet a fantastic idea nonetheless. For me X4 was initially a let down coming from the SNES series. It took a bit to re-adjust myself to the physics, the huge legs, voice acting *shudder*, and the fact that that Capcom really stopped trying to come up with halfway descent boss names (Storm Owl? pick something different Eagle already used that title, use a synonym like zephyr). The game did grow on me though and it had many pluses, like cooler stage designs, the fact you can play as Zero, and a really fun 3-stage Sigma fight. I always liked X2 myself. I think it had the best soundtrack of the SNES games though X3 was close. Also the souped up double arm cannon blast was awesome ;) Knight man is a cool robot master (Good stage music too). My personal favorite from that game was Tomahawk.

    Thanks again for sharing Shariq

  6. Jeeeeez :( This thread is sooooo dead. So how are you or your teammate's mixes coming along? There needs to be more propaganda and boasting going on here.

On a side note let's interview our gracious organizer and ask him some questions.

Shariq, what inspired you to come up with these megaman competitions in the first place (Please elaborate on a childhood memory if applicable)? What's your favorite megaman game? Who is your favorite robot master?

  7. Thank you all for your feedback. Its much appreciated. How often should I post for these things as well? (Whenever I have questions and whenever I update the song for another review?)

How should I pick instruments that work well together? I usually just randomly choose some and hope for the best. Is there a method that you use to make selections or is it just trial and error? I thought EQ could fix sound / instrument choices but it looks like that isn't the case.

What I'm getting from this so far

    1) I need major ear training so I notice and can hear these problems better for myself. (SuperiorX's mention of the differing key signatures and KM*'s mention of out of tune / timing issues).

    2) I need to fix the key signatures and merge the different pieces into one. (I have no musical training so I'm looking up transposing, major keys and minor keys,…. and shifting down by 5 semitones). Transposing is just shifting all the notes in the entire source song up or down by an amount (Does this have to be 5 semitones? I just shifted it wherever and wrote notes that I thought sounded good (My ears suck at the moment) in order to transition to a piece of the other source song). Is there a good site that goes into detail about this particular thing. BTW: SuperiorX your assumption about importing the midi songs is spot on.

    3) Leads. Should I only have one? Do I need to get rid of instruments or just change to different instruments (A list is below so I'll take suggestions)? Can my bass guitar become a lead and then go back to what it was doing before or is this considered music sacrilege and a horrific practice? Does highest volume indicate that this instrument is "the lead"?

    4) More source tunage would help the recognizability for the listener. Maybe go back and add in some more after I fix these other problems.

Here are my track instruments. And it is EQ'd based on the frequencies beside the track names.

    French Horn Staccato (1500+ Hz)

VIntage Voltage Bass (500 Hz) *

Tight Synth Bass (1200 Hz) *

Beatnik Guitar (180 Hz) Compressor side chained to Deep House Kit (I don't really get compressors yet but liked the effect the beat has on this instrument)

    Deep House Kit (60 Hz)

    Trance Remix Kit (70 Hz)

  8. Hello, everyone this is my first time using the workshop so if I'm posting irresponsibly please call me out on it and I'll make an effort not to screw up again.

Ok onto my WIP... It was inspired by the recent ongoing megaman remix tournament. I hope it doesn't give you tinnitus but that said it has many problems so I'd like to work on the worst ones first. I tried learning some basic EQ stuff but don't really know if that was successful or not. I need to add panning to fill out some of my soundscape among other things. I've got tough skin so give it to me straight and tell me what to do to improve it and my skill set in general. Thanks for your time. Also thanks to the other remixers in the WCRG who've helped get me thus far :) You've been very helpful.

  9. Holy crap. For someone who's tried and failed (got to the 6th - final? - stage before giving up) I can appreciate just how impressive that feat is *claps*

Failure is a bitter sweet thing. True it makes us feel bad and unfulfilled but it also serves a better purpose. It makes you stronger by giving you the desire to out do yourself. Who is to say that you would fail on your next attempt? Hmmm... Even in failure great things are born :)

  10. To the one with the avatar of Phanto (previously with a sig resembling Kisuke Urahara from Bleach),

Please elaborate on this Silver Surfer mention. I am not privy to the super top secret information that took place at this event called "mAgFesT". Us peons would like to hear "the down low" (At least I would anyway). Thanks :)

  11. Rexy,

Don't feel bad about the votes. Personally I don't vote for the artist because I like them but I will admit that I am biased towards certain styles of music (Check my voting record if you want). I generally don't care for orchestrations, metal, ska, and other genre's that have yet to be invented or I haven't discovered yet. This doesn't mean that those remixes are bad in any way. C7 has done a fabulous job with songs remixed in a genre I don't normally listen to. Music is subjective to everyone. I want to thank you for all your mixes whether liked or not. Just trying says a lot of positive things about the mixer.

Quick critique: Synthesize This! Loved the song but something about the first 12 seconds bothered me. Notes sounded off / flat or something. My ears and musical knowledge aren't sharp enough to tell me what it is that bothers me about that segment. The rest of the song is awesome though! Really liked it.

Suggestion: For the next competition ask Darke if he can post the mixes using fake numbered artist names for the week of voting. After the voting has ended he can reveal who the mixers are. Each week random numbers will be used instead of the artist's name. I know this method has many drawbacks but it could help if people are paranoid about overall voting motives. Figuring out the real artist would still be quite easy though (You would have to be deaf to not notice Akumajo's singing or one of Will Rock's solos for example). At least it would force people to listen to the song until they recognized the artist. Maybe some of the remixers have some viable input based on the way other competitions they have participated in have dealt with or ignored this concern.

All the bickering reminds of this -> http://gprime.net/flash.php/megamanandthepompousrobots :)

  12. You guys and your talks about ear beer and bass orgies are making me feel doubtful over mine :? I've been improving since the first round, sure, but I'm starting to face a lot of doubt over its stance for sure now.

Guess I might as well be ready to accept merely 7th place at best.

If you feel depressed about your song then just listen to one of mine :) I'm sure you'll feel better instantly lol

  13. orlouge was that guy in highschool who raised his hand and said "But Math instructor, you've forgotten to assign us homework!"

    and everyone groaned

That actually reminds me of my OWN Maths teacher at High School; while I did indeed excel at the subject, his motto even from his OWN studies were "math first, eat later", at least from all the stories he told.

Don't be dissing on math teachers now. Not all of them are like that. Take Gario for instance :P ....
