  1. Balls, might have to abandon my current mix idea. I started it off with a bang, and I wanted to make it work so I clung to what I had, but it has gone absolutely nowhere. Time to scrap and cram?

Pull a Gario man and make an awesome mix overnight :)

On another note, My teammate Gar is making a very nice track that I'm sure alot of you will really enjoy.

Here's to another round of good muzik!

    Edit:

Here are my votes this round for top 3 (Title naming that is...)

    1) Tandocca Scale (Nice Dr. Who ref that encompasses bees and space)

    2) Imhotep Step (Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer)

    3) Top To Bottom (Nice and simple innuendo)

    Edit 2:

Glad noone thought it would be funny to submit a 3 minute long track of silence as a joke :) That would have been a good one for the people who didnt want to mix an outer space theme.

    Edit 3:

If you are interested in some history. Here's a site that talks about Bun Bun a little. http://classicalgaming.wordpress.com/2012/05/16/composers-bun-bun-yasuaki-fujita/

  2. I can totally relate to this. Someone may ask, "what's up with this?" and I wouldn't have a clear cut answer, other than the one above. I think with practice and experience you'll start to have more and more distinct purposes for the sounds you put in your mix.

But the title of your track was "Eye of the Storm," no? I only listened a little whilst I was at work, but, the wobble kind of sounds like, an impending whirlwind coming to tear through a town, much like that of a storm. Just watch out for dem falling sharks.

Thanks :) I was in a rocky mood too since eye of the tiger was mixed in

  3. Seriously though, I'm honestly bewildered by your choice to have that wobble. What was the reasoning there?

Lol don't try to understand me.

    A) I'm a noob and make dumb decisions.

    2) I experiment and am fascinated with interesting sounds. It sounds like gelatin wobbling around or like mario swimming underwater with the automation.

    D) I just felt like putting the letter to the left of this sentence.

Actually, there was a real bass but I replaced it later due to everyone's dismay. *sad face*. No worries though I had fun writing and will probably keep working on it. Anything else stand out as well or should I just start over again?

    Edit: Pssssst Ben..... clicky? ->

  4. So anyway, tracks, how they comin'? I know at least Gario got an early start, which normally doesn't happen. I'm intrigued.

I don't think I'm gonna sub anything this round. just not feeling it.

And everyone needs to stop being a big meanie to pauvre pauvre Briggs cuz his track did / didn't / seemed like / was insinuated that it may or may not contain what some people might perceive or justify as clipping?

Why can't people talk about how awful my track was with the out of sync wobble thingy :(

    Sincerely,

    ~A depressed masochist

  5. shadow24 - Celestial Shimmer: Hm, some cool synths and patch choices in here. But, the whole thing feels a bit unfocused, and that harpsichord thing actually seems kind of all over the place and distracting from the focus of the song. The track as whole could also be mixed better, mainly in terms of balancing the levels of the various instruments.

Thanks for the review. The harpsichord was added last probably due to my poor timbre and instrument selection at the start of mixing. I kept changing leads and finally went and found some free samples online. Will told me to try to stick with synths for the time being. For me, faking real instruments always detracts from what semblance of cohesion that already exists. So, until I learn to play something for real I'll stick with those. I was trying to go for a relaxed animal crossing-ish vibe but made it too high energy.

For round 4, I tried to learn some mastering stuff with adaptive limiters and other plugins. One reason for this was to up my perceived volume. Please let me know if this new mix is more cohesive than the last.

On another note, if anyone would like the harpsichord samples just let me know and I'll host them on dropbox for a while. They are in SF2 format.

  6. shadow24 - soundscape is interesting and perhaps even eccentric, which is pretty neat at times. my main problem with this mix is that it seems to wander around. Try to fit clear melodies and establish an architecture to the song arrangement.

Thanks! I'm slowly moving from tinnitus to a decent mix :) I have no style so maybe that is why it is so eccentric. At the moment I'm dabbling in some basic mastering techniques. Another major fallacy was the perceived loudness of the track. Structure has always been an issue for me. That and time limits. Thanks again for the critique.

  7. You think you feel that way? I think this is quite possibly the best piece I've ever done, and then the track right after mine in the playlist is done in almost the exact same style only about 1000 times better.

I'm still pretty pleased with the arrangement, though.

Don't feel bad dude. Only way to go is up from here. Also remember we are mixing in a shorter amount of time too. One week as opposed to two in your competitions. My problem is I get sick of my mix after working on it all afternoon for three days straight and it still sounds worse than the seasoned veterans in the competition. Hopefully, that feeling will go away / I'll become quicker / or something else will improve.

Edit: BTW who else uses Logic as their DAW? Just curious.

  8. Yeah well, 9PM your time is 2AM my time, which is a tiny bit late for me don'tcherknow.

You could always ask a mod like Rozovian or someone else if they could host a WCRG Listening party to accommodate our European friends. I'm sure someone could help make it happen. Heck, share instant messaging names and set up a time or use a twitch tv feed. Be the one to make it happen next round :)

  9. Your comment is a little unclear. Do mean they're missing? I know sometimes samples can get left out when interpolation settings are changed, or it could be some other bug. I'd try fiddling with the settings. If it comes down to it, you can also render at the highest bitrate mp3 you can, then rerender that mp3 as a wave.

Well I use logic and it seems like it totally stripped out the samples for my harpsichord.

Bouncing the MP3, reimporting that to logic and trying to bounce that to a WAV still didn't work :/ I'm at a loss but I'll keep fiddling.

Thank you for the reply btw :)

Edit: Wait a second it did work... I hate iTunes. I had to delete all the other duplicate songs. I think it didn't update when I dragged it over.

Edit: All, If you got like 5 PM's from me just delete all but the last one.

  10. Rising Noise Effect

    -------------------

For Logic you can use an "ES P" for I/O with only white noise and automate the CutOff. Lower values to higher values will rise the pitch. Slap a LoPass filter plugin and automate the frequency to enhance its entrance.

EQ > SingleBand > Low Pass Filter > Stereo

On another note my track sounds different in WAV than MP3 as if it didn't use my samples for the lead instrument. Is this normal or do I have to do anything special when rendering?

  11. Darke, is there anyway to improve the voting process for future competitions? I've always thought it would go better if it were privatized so no one else could see other people's votes.

Just a random thought. Does anyone else feel the same?

Also people should really listen to individual artist's robot master themes when deciding on voting. I mean voting is based on how well both themes are integrated. Can everyone say they took the time to do that?

  12. Problem with us is, we're all really slow. It took Cash and Trism, and will take me, nearly the whole week to come up with a complete arrangement sans polish. That leaves very little time for feedback and even less for collaborative elements. I'm hoping we'll get more of a chance to really collaborate in the final round.

(This is, incidentally, why I personally use MIDIs. Not because I can't transcribe the source--I even helped Trism with Moliarty--but because it's time-consuming and I need all the free time I have to work on arrangement and production.)

Haha you are describing me lol :)

I always have trouble merging both sources vertically in the mix. You have to transpose, then shift notes so the chords don't step on each other, also keeping in line with the rythmn, etc. It's much more time consuming than horizontal meshing. I have great respect for Prophetic because of this. He always does it so well.
