  1. I see what they're talking about. Works for me, I'll agree there's a lot of personalization, albeit the melody and structure do seem on the conservative side. YES
  2. I agree that the genre change makes for an interesting listen, and I like what you've got so far, but as Emu mentioned, the overall source is pretty conservative, and I think you need to have more development and personalization in here. The track definitely sounds like it's meant to be a soundtrack, with a loop incorporated, and that would be the time for you to really add your flair. Samples are the other big weakpoint. Emu called it again with the sax and guitar especially. I'd see about pulling in some better samples and adding more humanization to them as well (the sax is playing super straight, no vibrato, rhythmic variance, etc). This defnitely needs some work, IMO, but it's a neat idea that I hope you stick with. I'd use our WIP forums to get some further advice. NO
  3. Emu nailed it. The opening synth had me running for my volume button; that's gotta get toned down a bit! Aside from that, I think the arrangement has come a long and awesome way. I hope you touch this up! NO (resubmit)
  4. Pretty much nothing I can add here. Once it kicks in, the ideas are a lot more solid, but they do get repetitive. Overall this just needs more variation, and cutting down the intro as the main things, and adding some humanization/personalization in the intro will really add some shine. Hit up those WIP forums! NO(resubmit)
  5. Andrew hit it. This is a definite improvement, and really makes me glad we sent it back to Dustin. Super groovy, way more variation. Nice work, dude! YES

I had never meant for it to sound like Christmas or winter at all, then I listened to it again while THINKING about Christmas, and WOOOOW all of a sudden it sounds like Christmas. Funny how those things work. Could just be me though. It does kinda have a 'chilly' atmosphere to it. Not much else to say about this mix, other than what I said in the original submission, which is here: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=34484&highlight=reflection Hope you guys dig more than the last time -------------

Here is my explanation of the story within the song: The piano at the beginning is the narrator setting the scene describing what has just taken place (Kirby’s destruction of the Halberd). The rest of the 6/8 meter section is supposed to take place during the actual sunset ride in the game as each party processes the recent events. The flute solo is the memory of sailor Waddle Dee :'( The solo trumpet is the voice of Meta Knight. The solo guitar is the voice of Kirby (and sidekick) as they ride into the sunset. As Meta Knight and Kirby recount the destruction of the Halberd the voices are in unison in some places and differ in other places. Upon conclusion of the 6/8 section, the setting changes once again to an undisclosed location months after the destruction of the Halberd. Kirby is asked about what happened, and he recounts the tale from his perspective. The solo female voice is designed to convey a flashback or dreamlike atmosphere. Kirby and sidekick are, again, the guitars. They destroy the Halberd. The solo female voice is heard yet again, signifying a return to the present. At another undisclosed location Meta Knight is asked the same question by his villain buddies. Meta Knight takes a brief moment to remember sailor Waddle Dee (solo flute) and then swears that he will one day avenge the destruction of the Halberd, smite Kirby, and enslave Dreamland (the building and final sustained note by the solo trumpet). I used a program called Magix Music Maker for this project. I mean no disrespect to the people at Magix, but I’m fairly sure it crashed somewhere around 300 times during the creation of this remix. I was fortunate if the program played 10 bars without a crash. I was also shooting in the dark with the mixing and mastering because I couldn’t play the song in Magix. Labeling this remix as an arduous task is a definite understatement. I look forward to working in FL Studio from now on. Best regards, Charles Wheeler -- “SomeGuy”
  9. At the time of writing, we haven't had more than a morning of snow here. In mid December. Winter doens't have a good grasp of the seasons. This track is basically what happens when you take my beautiful, filtered-drums-y, kick-less style and fuse it with my groovy, thick and messy style. Half the sounds are from Eye of the Storm. I wanted to do more Zelda, and ended up with this one because there's very few good wintery tracks in the Zelda franchise. I also snuck in a melody from ALttP because the source seemed to be based on that track. "Winter's Grasp" source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU-_qBshJXc (Temple of Droplets, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap) -rozo (#21613) ps there's two versions of it in the upload dir, one of which is too large for ocr.

Contact Information: ReMixer name: AlmightyArceus Real name: Jordan Wynne eMail address: Website: http://www.youtube.com/user/AlmightyArceus UserID: 33305 Submission Information: Games arranged: Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Name of Arrangment: 7/4, Snover and Out Name of individual Songs Arranged: Route 216 Composers: Junichi Masuda/ Go Ichinose Link to Original: More Information About This Mix: Ahhh, the holiday season. I've been waiting to remix this theme since last Christmas, since I really wanted to fit the spirit of the season. It's always good to approach things at a new angle, and being the season for joy and cheer, I decided to take a rather--different approach to the Pokémon song that is most commonly associated with the holidays: the theme to Route 216. I quite enjoy working in odd time signatures, and this one seemed to flow naturally...despite being a complete time switch from 4/4 to a 7/4 time signature. The original theme has a rather jazzy/cheery feeling, and I take this cheer and make it more quirky and interesting, while pertaining a sort of glacial joy as well; think of something along the lines of Wonderful Christmastime, but a bit more chordally and rhythmically involved. Lots of the chords carry hints of dissonance within them that manage to blend together rather well, and the piece stays surprisingly steady with the drum track helping lead the way. This song was produced on Garageband 2011, with enhancement/more mastering completed on FL Studio 9 by TheGuitahHeroe. I have to give credit to TheGuitahHeroe, without whom the mastering quality of the track would be much lower. He assisted in enhancing the production quality of the track (while also adding on a little tag of his own in the ending, as a little playful addition he wanted to include in my remix.) I thank him thoroughly. This song has lots of little playful differences and variances from the original, and plays with some of the transitions and such (as well as pays homage to the most classic of 7/4 songs in one moment--see if you can spot it in the solo line in the mix.) I hope you thoroughly enjoy what this track has to offer!

The game series was made by SIGMA team(Russia) and had high dynamic and energy sound track. I just HAD to try! This one is a.. mmm.. Energetic stuff I suppose. 4 Drum Tracks at same time, crap tone of synths, Bit Machine corrupting some of guitars, maybe you even can find some work for your sub-woofer in this mix. maybe.. Overall mix sounds repetitive, but actually I intended to make it like this. Why? mmm.. I wanted to make something what can be used in this game as is and listenable at same time. Also all of this techno/dance/trance stuff sounds repetitive and it's OK. So hell.. Why not? LOL Everything is repetitive after all. But if it's still not at the propper level of repetitiveness or music production or whatever, well... Better luck next time, i suppose. 15. Dear OC ReMix Judges, Attached is an improved version of an arrangement I originally submitted to OverClocked ReMix on Sep. 30, 2011, that was evaluated by Andrew on Oct. 22, 2011 and rejected on the grounds of poor sample quality. I gave the MIDI to oikanys who played it through the higher quality sounds in SONAR and a hardware drum module. The sound quality is much improved, and I hope it is sufficient. 16. Brandon Strader 3123 www.bstrader.net Game: Portal 2 Song: Cara Mia Addio Source: Title: Goodbye There's a ton I can say here but I'll try to keep it short. I originally planned to only make 3 orchestrations for OCR: Rise of Kuros, Mirage, and Lady in the Water. But then 2 out of 3 of them passed without needing fixed, it seemed like a way to go and who am I to mess with something good. So here is an orchestration with a twist, it also has "italian" vocals. Yeah yeah, get ready for vocal hate... though the few people who commented on the music video said it was brilliant. DoD listeners were a bit more critical of it. Music video: (DoD version, but similar enough IMO) This new submitted version should sound better.Anyway, I am writing this from my new house where I am trying to build a proper recording studio, as well as living. I didn't know I would be here today submitting "Goodbye" on the same day I left, it was a very lucky coincidence. I'd like to dedicate this song to my parents who helped me every step of the way with becoming a musician. They supported me when I went to a smaller college, and when I chose a less successful career path (less successful than, say, being an accountant!). Without their support, I wouldn't be doing music, so I owe it all to them and a huge thanks. As for me, I won't be entirely alone. I've got an arm-mounted potato of my own named Zut. If I can turn this place around, I might have a chance to get more musicians coming in -- maybe even OC Remixers recording remixes and staying in the guest rooms. Tons of potential here. Until next time..... woosh.

I actually made this song as a gift for a friend who is a fan of the game. The song was composed on Reason/Record and is mixed in the style of Hard Trance. As traditions with trance songs, the song consists of a lengthy intro and outro filling 32 bars so the song could be spun if necessary. It's bpm is 128 and it's in the key of Cm. I was just trying to have fun, the bass was too much fun to play around with. I like how it turned out. This is my first submission in almost 8 years. Happy to be submitting again. ---------------
  20. Name: Arceace Real name: Ben Clifton Email address: Game: Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Arrangement name: “Aerial Carousel” Original track: Balloon Park Link: Comments: I didn’t even know that I wanted to remix this song until I heard it in my media player a few months ago. I suddenly realized how catchy it was and how much I enjoyed the music as a kid. Needless to say, I began experimenting with this song right as soon as I heard it and the arrangement took off from there. I have always had a soft spot for Sonic games, and this one is especially nostalgic for me because it was the first one that I have ever played. While nearing the end of the arrangement, I realized that it had a really cluttered sound to it. I noticed that the drum samples that I was using were the cause of this problem. It was at this point that I couldn’t find a way to go on. However, OA managed to help share some valuable insight to help me make the mix sound better. Not only did he show me what good drum samples sound like, but he also provided valuable feedback for my whole remix. After making the changes that he had recommended, it started to sound better again. So I would like to thank OA for helping me make the remix what it is now. Please enjoy! Ben

About the track itself I'd call it some sort of electronic dubstep techno or something. Dubstep seems very popular these days so perhaps it's the key to success? ReMixer name - Tomaaato Name - Marcello Ciciriello Email - Website - http://twitter.com/#!/hi_tomaaato Userid - 46390 Game - Final Fantasy VI Name of arrangement - Mr. Thou Name of individual song(s) arranged - Cayenne The track I have chosen to remix is Cayenne from the Final Fantasy VI soundtrack: http://ocremix.org/game/6/final-fantasy-vi-snes Hi, I'm Marcello, a 21 year old keyboard player and bassist from Bedford, England. This is my first serious attempt at remixing/creating my own interpretation of a piece of music from a video game. All of the parts you hear in my remix are played in on a Roland Cakewalk A-800 Pro keyboard, being fed straight into Reason, which is the core piece of software I use both in the studio, and live on stage. The track was mastered in Logic Pro 9, and I have gone through many iterations of the mix, asking my friends all sorts of questions to try and get pointers for a better mix such as "Is it too bassey? Is it too trebley? Is it too loud or too quiet, either individual instruments or the track as a whole?" etc. I am a big fan of both progressive rock, and electronic music, and the inspiration behind this arrangement comes from both of these genres. To sum things up, I really just played what I felt like playing, and this is the finished product, and hey, if anyone likes it, that's a massive bonus to me! I am by no means a professional musician, and I am still learning every day new techniques in both keyboard playing, and music production. If this track is not accepted, please give me any relevant criticism so that I know where I can improve with any future submissions. Thank you for your time -----------
  24. Contact Information ReMixer name - Moomba Real name - Joe Griffith Userid - 21941 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged - Final Fantasy VII Name of arrangement - Mother Name of individual song(s) arranged - Listen to the Cries of the Planet, J-E-N-O-V-A, Those Chosen by the Planet, Mako Reactor Comments: Of the above mentioned tracks, I'm not entirely sure how many of them fully qualify as having enough source material included to be considered a solid part of the arrangement, the main bulk of the track is built from Listen to the Cries of the Planet, tinged with a fair bit of J-E-N-O-V-A and chunks of Those Chosen by the Planet and Mako Reactor... there's even a very short cameo by a portion of the melody from Trails of Blood. The origins of this remix are pretty straightforward. Ever since listening to Nekofrog's arrangement of Listen to the Cries of the Planet, 'The Planet Is Dead', the ostinati from the original have been continuously rotating in my mind. Though for some reason chunks of J-E-N-O-V-A kept creeping into it. In fact, large portions of Aerith's Theme also kept injecting themselves into the mental picture I had of the track, but when it came to writing, they didn't really gel too well with the rest of the track, at least not without altering the melody to points at which it no longer even resembled the source material. When I first got into writing music, it was with a very minimalistic style and I've never quite shed those roots (nor do I want to). Several of the tracks from the FFVII OST are also quite minimalistic in nature, with lots of awesome ostinati and very simple melodies, so I took it upon myself to go about combining a few. I'd actually already written a large portion of the minimalism heard throughout the track for an original piece... in 4/4. It didn't take much modifying to get them to work in 6/8 though. I owe a fair bit of the final sound of the ReMix to Jeff Ball (some1namedjeff) for giving me the push to actually go back and make the track sound a bit more unique and interesting. Lastly, the title of the track is pretty straightforward: Jenova - Mother, the Planet - Mother (of life). Also I suck at picking names so it was the best I could come up with! Cheers! --------- - cry - Jenova - Those chosen - Mako
