  1. I am a little more concerned with the amount of repetitiveness in this track. That opening riff remains pretty much untouched and is used for almost the entire track. However, looking at it from a different angle, it is a pretty strong connecting factor as well. I am leaning towards it not being a dealbreaker, but it would have been nice to have some variety on it as well. The other negative factor to me stems from the slow buildup. Again, it's kind of a necessary evil in that the slow roll really helps the tension at the end of the track, but you have to get there first. The second half of the track is pretty fantastic. Definitely an overall mood setter, and the guitar effects are used really well. One example is the wailing noises really mimicking...wailing . The balance is also very strong, and the parts fit together very well. The emotions run pretty strong in this, and I think it's worth overlooking the factors against it in favor of a pass. YES

Other issues mentioned were the breakdown at 1:29 and the fade-out in the end, but I felt no need to change those. Other than that, I've changed one synth a little and re-balanced a few volume levels, but nothing too drastic. I hope you enjoy this
  3. Remix Title: Ninja Ganon Game: Ninja Gaiden, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Songs: Basilisk Mine (I think it's technically called Ryu's Determination?), Gerudo Valley Remixer name: MtM Welp. Here we are. I did this over winter break while I was away from classes and therefore actually had some free time to devote to it. I guess it kind of started when I was sitting at my piano, figuring out how to play the Ninja Gaiden tune, when I noticed the chord progression was exactly the same as Gerudo Valley's. This led to me just playing around on my keyboard, switching between the two themes to figure out the best ways to transition them, just for fun. Then I decided to do a remix of the two of them. I'm not sure where I got the idea to do it as a dance-style kinda thing, I just played around with different instruments and synths until I found things that sounded cool. I'm a big fan of Vurez's Basilisk Run mix, so I didn't want to do something similar lest I borrow too much inspiration... Well, anyways, here's my take on the two songs. I hope it's as good as my roommate seems to think it is! ----------------------- - Ninja - Ganon
  4. AcidBlock Tomi Lammi ztormi@hotmail.com Arranged game: Professional Ski Simulator Arrangement name: Pro Ski Simulator ( Winter breaks ) Song arranged: Title Theme ( Subtune 1 ) Original song is from 1987 composed by Steve Barrett for videogame Professional Ski Simulator. Game was released for multiple consoles including Commodore 64, Amiga and Atari ST. Link to original song: http://files.exotica.org.uk/?file=exotica/media/audio/High_Voltage_Sid_Collection/C64Music/MUSICIANS/B/Barrett_Steve/Professional_Ski_Simulator.sid Professional Ski Simulator is one of my favourite sidtunes and a great piece of a game too. There wasn't many remixes of this song so I decided to give it a go after quite a long break from remixing and composing. I was trying to capture the tense and epic mood of the original theme and adding my own twist to it. The remix was made with Propellerhead's Reason software.
  5. Here's a submission for you peoples! Remixer name: some1namedjeff Real name: Jeff Ball Website: http://www.jeffedwardball.com UserID: 8601 Name of Game: Cardinal Quest Name of Arrangement: The World After Asterion Name of Individual Song Arranged: The End of Asterion Additional Info: The original Cardinal Quest soundtrack was composed by Whitaker Trebella, who released the soundtrack under his former name of Whitaker Blackall, which was changed when he got married. It's a newer game and is currently out on PC and Xbox 360. Link to Original Soundtrack: http://wblackall.bandcamp.com/album/cardinal-quest-original-soundtrack Artist Comments: The original composer of the soundtrack, Whitaker Trebella, approached me to do a remix for the soundtrack album. After listening to all the tracks, I ended up picking the fanfare theme, which is also one of the shortest tracks on the album. Even though it was short, the melody was very powerful, and I knew I could do something orchestral with it. When I was working on the track, the notes just kept coming out until I had a nearly 6 minute track based off of an original that is only 13 seconds long. It was a lot of fun to work on, and gave me a great opportunity to flex my orchestration muscles. Thanks, and let me know if you need more info, -Jeff

Even after sitting for a few months like it has, and many more months if it passes, the song has had its production tweaked often and to a very fine state that I'm very satisfied with! The intro is loosely inspired both by Knight of the Round and M-H's songs for the Final Fantasy 1 album, Random Encounter. The rest are various forms of gratuitous metal, ending with a cool Celtic bit in 6/4. I would map out the source usage but I think it can be heard clearly throughout. Even when the rhythm is completely original, such as the metalcore breakdown at 1:40, the source is still totally apparent in the lead guitars and orchestra. The solo section at 2:07 even works in the source a little bit. I would say it stays in a fairly conservative area, but with adequate amounts of personalization. Oh wait did I say the metalcore breakdown was completely original? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. Sorry. So the guitars were reamped with the mic aiming pretty close to the center of the cup, which gave the guitars a brootal crispy tone. I had plenty of chances to redo the reamping to give the tone more of a low-end type of sound, but ultimately decided against doing that. I think the crispier bite of the guitar tone is awesome and it might even leave some apparent space for the orchestration the way it is. The song is what pure fun sounds like, when you just let loose and make something the way you want it and envision it, and it comes out better than expected... I'm very happy with this mix and I hope you enjoy it as well! Oh, and THE ALBUM! YES, THE FINAL FANTASY 2 ALBUM! It is amazing, go download it.
  7. Mixer name: TheGuitahHeroe Game: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team (yes, AGAIN...) Song remixed: Mt. Blaze (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLWJXTArzOg) Remix name: "Beneath the Blaze" ...Yeah. Dubstep. I'm actually pretty proud of this one. Definitely one of the most aggressively-styled remixes I've done; it's similar in style to a lot of originals that I've been doing lately (I like to produce my original stuff a bit more 'harshly'). And lately I've been getting into doing dubstep and other 'harder' subgenres of electronica. As for a source breakdown...everything is pretty out in the open, no hidden anything really; the arps are all arps in the source, and the bell leads, and chord progressions during the breaks and the ends of the main verses, are all from the source as well. Hope you guys dig
  8. I know what you are asking for, and this isn't quite it, but; if you search a game it will tell you each source and how many mixes exist of it. For example: http://ocremix.org/game/11/final-fantasy-iv-snes You can see there are 7 mixes of the main theme, 1 for Hey, Cid! and so on.
  9. Super tough judge here. I like what you did with the soundscape, it really matches what's going on in the original and adds a lot of tension. That being said, I'm a little tenuous on the source usage. I'd love some backup from another judge on this, and I'll have to listen to it a little more myself. The transition into Rudy's theme was awkward at best, I'd say it definitely needs to be fit in stronger there. I'm also noticing the string notes at 2:03 and 2:06 aren't good. I think you were going for dissonance there, but it needs to have a resolution for that to work. I'd say overall the soundscape is pretty nice, but I'd look into changing the strings up. The attack is especially slow, and it's making things feel a little out of time. The swell isn't great either, which is really noticeable at 1:07 where the strings swell the same note kind of awkwardly. I focused on the stuff that needs fixing up, but I think this is one of your best submissions to date, Mr. Mokram! The ideas you have here are mostly solid, and minus being somewhat unsure of the extent of the source usage, when you do incorporate it it's pretty solid from what I'm hearing. Production is also on the upswing. Keep improving, you've come quite a ways already! NO (resubmit)
  10. I appear to have lost the original .txt of lyrics, but I'll transcribe them. This place I know a simple reality But what I know only my mind believes A butterfly, that flies so high in the sky What can I know only when dreams come true Close your eyes and dream Open your mind and see again No idea what he did for the second verse, tbh. Sounds like it might just be a repeat of the first. Good luck!
  11. I can't get over how silly the lyrics are, but you have them metal screamed. It's adorable in a strange way. I'm definitely really impressed with Rexy's ability to scream, so nice work there. Including 'caboosey' into the lyrics is something of an accomplishment in itself, kudos on that. The mix itself is pretty fun, the sources are definitely there and treated well. The integration of the two sources is pretty seamless; I wouldn't have guessed that they were separate tracks without being told. The vocals are generally a bit overpowering, but there really isn't much else going on so it's not much of an issue. Overall this is probably not going to be the most popular of songs, but it's a fun listen. Caboosey
  12. I'll echo Emu that this is pretty adorable to listen to. Love you you treated the source, and the overall soundscape is almost wintery at times. I'd listen to it with a glass of hot cocoa YES
  13. Definitely a nice soundscape here, and I like your approach to the theme. There are two problems I have right now. The first is that the mix never really develops after it establishes the groove. There's no build up, and the track doesn't feel like it's headed anywhere. You could have done something bigger after 1:36 as an example. The other bigger issue is that the melody has one cameo area, and then the source is only vaguely hinted at after that. The source needs to be incorporated more in general. On the more nitpick side, I'm not really feeling that snare(?) hit in terms of the soundscape; it's too loud and jarring compared to the rest of what's going on. Overall the drumwork has some areas where it hits auto pilot as well, and could have more variation. I'd say you're definitely on the right track here, but it needs more to get it solid. More source is a must, and development will really keep the listener interested. Hit this one up in the WIP forums to get more feedback! NO (resubmit)
  14. This is tough. Like, it's awesome to listen to, but the source usage is...I'm not hearing it very much at all. Maybe someone can pick up on stuff I'm not hearing, I hope. The vocals sound pretty upfront, as well, and are a bit overpowering. I'd turn them down just a notch and get them into the soundscape a little better. For now, I gotta NO this, but hopefully someone will point something out that I missed. NO (resubmit)
  15. This is clearly a dubstep mix. I hear wubs, therefore it is dubstep Anyways. Got some saxiness going on, combinations between some chorus and rocking drums. Pretty eclectic and fun mix, and a neat take on a short source. I'd say some of the sections feel a bit crowded, which would be the drawback, but it's more of a nitpick than anything serious. YES
  16. I apparently didn't post a resolution last year, but I definitely was on the 'Get the Inbox Up to Date' train. That was accomplished, too! This year I want to get my votes up to date, and submit a mix of my own creation

I wanted to make this mix funky in every sense -- like funk music at points and just plain weird and bouncy when the overt funk dies down. It turned out exactly as I had planned. I hope it charges you up. I hope it boosts your energy. I hope it gets you amped. I hope it's weird enough to make you say, "lol watt?". Round 6's source for people to mix their chosen robot masters with was the second Dr. Cossack stage theme from Mega Man 4; when finding that out on the train back from the London Gaming Con, my first thought was "I didn't research this because Cossack isn't Wily", but I still pressed on and gave it a go. Part of my inspiration on this came from studying some of Queen's faster-paced works from the early 1970s, which is made evident with the drum writing more than anything else. Having understood that Plant Man can be a more delicate Robot Master, it's fair that a hint of his more "feminine" side could be reflected by citing musical influences that could be seen as feminine at its core. (!) Regardless, with Cossack being a Russian scientist, it's fair that the track would practically launch Plant Man right in the centre of a more chaotic Siberian plunderstorm of energy as he tries to force his way through the lair with nothing more than a protective barrier of petals. In other words, it's all about the mad rawk this time Again, I give thanks to team mate Brandon Strader who chipped in with live performances on guitars/tambourine and offered his mastering services for a third time. Quoting his experience... [brandon] Red Chamomile is an arrangement by Rexy, and it is really fantastic I think. Just like with Hogtied and some of our other collabs, I recorded the guitars, replaced the sounds and mixed / mastered it. I even chopped one of her piano parts and she never noticed but I did it for the good of the song. >:] I love the subtle echo on the acoustic guitar, and I think the song sounds great. I think this collab, like our others, shows both of our styles pretty well. The tambourine was totally improvised and I got it in like 1 take and I love that part. This song is all about the TAMBOURINE! [Rexy] Given that the track had to be established within a time limit, it wasn't easy trying to get this together, but I'm glad it did because hearing this back managed to give a spur of confidence for both the track's performance and its listenability. Even hearing some of his subtle changes and creative decisions were neat too, so major props there. And thank you again DarkeSword for running the gauntlet! It may not be quite as evident, but the experience really got me to grow as a producer, and I hope to take the experience to heart for future endeavours -Bev & Brandon- -------------- - Cossack - Plant Man

  20. hey guys, i would like to submit this track to ocremix for judging. information is as follows: Werewolf: The Last Warriors is arguably the finest moment brought to us by the company Data East. Through this motions of this 5 song medley, we explore and bring to life the beautiful melodies encapsulated in this soundtrack. Inspired by bands like The Champs, Converge, Harvey Milk, and Don Caballero as well as other notable indierock curmudgeons, we were inspired to create an arrangement that responds to tone and feeling as much as arrangement and production. The end result is an organic, flowing, and unified piece of music that stands on its own while still throwing back to popular emotional hardcore, breakbeat, and even black metal sensibilities, yet encompasses a song that we feel is portrayed exactly the way it needs to be-no filler, all killer. This is perhaps considered a straight cover, to be sure; but the musicianship and the production together with the arrangement of this track shines through in an uncompromising way that, much like Rick Astley, you arent exactly going to get from any other guys. remixer name: temp sound solutions real name: shawn douglas phase (or craig jakubowski, hehe) user id: http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=3175 email address: website: http://tempsoundsolutions.com name of game arranged: werewolf: the last warriors (nes) name of arrangement: warriors in arms name of original songs arranged: track 1, track 4, track 12, track 13, track 2 (from nsf, no names given) thanks for listening, it'll be interesting to see how judging goes with this one. --------------- - Good luck! - Final Boss JP (0:00 - 1:01) - Cut Scene (1:01 - 2:20) - Miniboss (2:20 - 2:58) - Final Boss Part 2 (2:58 - 4:14) - Prologue - (4:14 - End)
