I'm a little less sold on the arrangement, but only in that I don't feel like there's a real connection between your intro and the rest of the track. I'd like something to bridge the sections better, or honestly I wouldn't mind it being dropped either. That aside, I will agree that the arrangement overall is pretty good, but 2:14-2:54 felt like a really long bridge where not much happened. The speed-up ending didn't feel very smooth either, and needs to be fine-tuned. Production is the bigger weakpoint, as Emu has mentioned. The samples aren't really standing out as great (although they aren't super terrible either), and while some changes will help things out (drums), I think some of how you produce it might be the difference. I'm not super good on advice for how to do that, but hopefully the next judge might have a better idea of what you can do. You are definitely improving with each submission. Keep it up and don't be afraid to visit the WIP forums if you haven't already! NO (resubmit)

*NO* Donkey Kong 64 'Diddy Kong's Metal Jam'
DragonAvenger replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
There's not really much to add to Emu's essay of super description. I felt that the production for the most part is pretty solid, and I would have been OK with passing it production-wise as is. I will agree with him that if you fill up the rest of the headroom and fix up the balance you will only be doing the track a favor. The arrangement as has been said is a medley, and unfortunately again as Emu mentioned, the different sections are a sort of 'reset' of the arrangement and energy level. There's definitely the potential for more development as a whole, and hearing what you have done to the DK Isle section I know you can definitely do so. Lastly, I will second that there is a ton of potential here, and whether you go back to this one or send something else in I will be looking forward to it. NO (resubmit) -
*NO* Call of Duty: Black Ops 'Zombie Gang'
DragonAvenger replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
I really like the idea you have behind this. This could easily make a really cool backing for a hip hop track. Right now though, it feels pretty sparse and repetitive. The piano riff plays pretty much throughout the track unchanged, and is pretty mechanical. I can apply the same to the chords and the beats, overall there just needs to be more variation, and more to fill out the soundscape. Also, when you start using the scratch effects, it feels a little overkill, but that might be my personal opinion. This is coming across as a harsh vote, but I think there's some real potential here. It also needs a decent amount of work. I'd look at humanizing more, adding more variation overall, and maybe see about finding someone to rap for you. NO -
Ahh Concrete Man. So underloved Overall I like the soundscape you have going on and the instrument choices. Nothing is breaking out of the norm, but the sound choices are solid, with nothing feeling out of place. The opening build up is pretty long, it took over a minute for the track to even start up. I'd say you should cut that down by a third to a half, and get to the meat sooner. When the track does come in, it stays pretty conservative for a good while. The guitar playing is pretty sweet, and Sebastien is soloing pretty well here. The problem I am having is that it feels like that is the only large personalization factor you have in here. It kept me wanting more of your ideas. Production-wise, it feels like the balance isn't totally clear, and some sections felt like the parts were all vying for the front. Overall I'd take a closer look at that and determine what needs to be the focus and where, and work on some panning ideas and volume adjustments. I'd also look into your reverb, as this feels swamped. Cut it back a bit, please! 1:52 has a sudden volume decrease that is a little weird too. If you want to bring down the volume, I'd fade into it more. Overall a good soundscape, and a good base, but there's so much you can do with it now. Add some more of your own flair, and hit those fixes please! NO (resubmit)

Wes did a good job of covering what I was going to say. Overall this feels very short and like it doesn't fully develop to its potential. By the end I am definitely wanting more. From about 1:14 to the end the track feels like an interlude between different sections, but the next part never comes! Production overall seems pretty good, but a bit sparse at times. Too bad the original artist can't be reached. Definitely some potential here. NO

Nostalgia even. So, with Skyward Sword about to be released I was reminded me of just how awesome & serene the theme was and remembered a track I made a long time ago with a awesome lyricist named Phil (his last name escapes me). We ended up making a great winter themed hip hop track with an uplifting message. This is a resub from long ago, & hopefully it was worth the wait. 2p - I wrote the lyrics and performed them for this ReMix. The lyrics are in general about appreciating the people in your life that make you happy to be alive, and are told through the eyes of a university student living off campus. I wrote this at the beginning of my junior year, a year in which I was always busy and always tired. Sometimes you get overwhelmed or weighed down by school or work or whatever, but if you can just step away from it all with some good friends occasionally, then often you may feel like you got your footing right again and you're ready to keep it pushing. That's what these lyrics are about. Lyrics Outside on the corner where I caught the bus Thinking in my head 'it's colder than I thought it was...' Sometimes life is like that, and you just quiver your lips Whisper a wish, hoping someone might give us deliverance Now deliver this message: think I can live with this mess if You could just give a few seconds to come and sit in my presence and yes It is so precious, yes, it is a blessing, next I'll attempt to express it with every heavy breath Cause just to make it worth it, and just to make it real You always made it perfect, and that's the way I feel Sometimes we think too much, and we lose control But it's not what you know, no it's who you know Days that will not end, I'm sure you've had them too Wishing you're still in bed, and yet we have to move This is what passion do, this is what passion does And so my plan is to, start sending back the love. Snowflakes fell like a gift from the skies and Teardrops swelled when I lifted my eyes and It was surely just brightness that had 'em form in me While the storm in the streets was adorning the trees, and It clothed each branch with a layer of the purest snow And this miracle was a little less than a year ago Now summer's almost over, the weather's growing colder, Approaching frozen sojourns - A Minnesota soldier. Backpack on my shoulder days are shorter I spend most alone Still growing older feeling lonesome though I'm close to home On the city bus dozing both eyes closing on the open road My soul is folding though I'm holding on and so it goes And sometimes when it's dark, I look up at the stars Think about how small we are, but at least we have hearts Getting passed by speeding cars, on these streets of ours I want to be the cause, for someone's grief to pause Cause just to make it worth it, and just to make it real You always made it perfect, and that's the way I feel Sometimes we think too much, and we lose control But it's not what you know, no it's who you know Days that will not end, I'm sure you've had them too Wishing you're still in bed, and yet we have to move This is what passion do, this is what passion does And so my plan is to, start sending back the love. And I can't even get emotional, cause even though this road is negotiable, this' the road I Chose, going solo feeling so low and I don't know the things I'm supposed to know but So, I know some brothas that I roll with, in the same role with the same goal and they stay focused. So just forget saying that you gon' quit, its a long way to go I'ma need y'all to go with. I got your back like the shirt tag side, no matter what it is yes sir that's right Even when you act like a dirt bag I, done been there before for sure that's why I keep no accounts of flaws, keep holding out for y'all People is all we are, you know I'm down by law Cause just to make it worth it, just to make it real You always made it perfect, and that's the way I feel Sometimes we think too much, and we lose control But it's not what you know, no it's who you know Days that will not end, I'm sure you've had them too Wishing you're still in bed, and yet we have to move This is what passion do, this is what passion does And so my plan is to, start sending back the love. Cause just to make it worth it, and just to make it real You always made it perfect, and that's the way I feel Sometimes we think too much, and we lose control So this Solace is for all the fools we know. ----------------

Original Decision Contact Information: ReMixer name: AlmightyArceus Real name: Jordan Wynne eMail address: jorwyn95@gmail.com Website: http://thehalloforigin.yolasite.com/ UserID: 33305 Submission Information: Games arranged: Pokémon Black/White ; (Chrono Trigger) Name of Arrangment: Oracle of the Spire Name of individual Songs Arranged: Tower of Heaven ; Secret of the Forest Composers: Junichi Masuda/ Yasunori Mitsuda Links to Originals: Tower of Heaven - Secret of the Forest - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJzedahyjXE More Information about mix: This little gem was created after one of my favorite songs from Pokémon Black and White. I changed the feel of the song to something of a more light, relieved setting than that of the tense, minor feel of the original; while still keeping the mysterious air within the song. I wanted less of a strong drum beat, and more of a smooth, flowing piece, like the feeling you would experience by standing at the top of the tower, with clouds surrounding you and the sun setting in the distance. A feeling of prophetic influence and glorious release to the sky surrounding. As such, the arrangement focuses less on the drums and more on the chords and flow. Many have made the remark that the melody of "Tower of Heaven" is nearly identical to that of "Secret of the Forest," and with that fact in mind, I decided to mix that in with the rest, to make a nice minor bridge of the song, both pulling some of the original tension and feel from the OST, and also referencing the close connection between the two songs. "Secret of the Forest" was not meant to be the main feature of the song; it is more of an excerpt to express similarity and to add a bit more tense--but beautiful--feel to the bridge. This track was produced entirely on Garageband 2011, by ear, aside from the drum tracks which were arranged on FL Studio 9 by TheGuitahHeroe. TheGuitahHeroe also assisted in cleaning up the production of the composition for the resubmission. I take massive pride in this production as it is one I have spent the most time on this piece. I particularly enjoy the lead writing I produced for this arrangement, as well as the solo piano chorus that is written in. I do enjoy using the chords and toying around melodically with them, so you will definitely hear some playful sixteenth note chromatic licks within the song. I hope you thoroughly enjoy the track I have to offer!

OCRemix judges, Attached is my band's submission to OCRemix -- iFreedom. We're not normally a video game cover band, but I'm a big fan of the site, and thought our one video game cover might be eligible. I hope you enjoy it and that it meets the necessary requirements. Contact Information Your ReMixer name: Lesser S Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged: Mega Man 3 Name of arrangement: iFreedom Name of individual song(s) arranged: Hard Man Stage, Top Man Stage, Get a Weapon Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc.: We're actually a pop-rock band that doesn't normally perform or record video game arrangements, but over the last several weeks, we've taken the Jonathan Coultonesque approach of attempting to write, record, and mix a new song every week. A few weeks ago, we fell behind schedule, so one member of the band put together this arrangement from Mega Man 3, which was then recorded in the span of a few hours. Most of our fans have never even heard of Mega Man 3, and Hard Man's theme appears to be one of the most obscure in the game, so we wouldn't be surprised if most of the people who have heard it have no idea it's an arrangement at all. As far as the arrangement itself, it's primarily built around Hard Man's theme, and is meant to be from Hard Man's perspective, in the same vein as most arrangements by a band I adore, The Megas. In the canon of this song, Hard Man is actually afraid of his own level, and is, in a sense, trapped in the boss room, hoping the Mega Man will be killed by the level before they ever encounter each other. By the end of the song, he accepts his fate, and a somber trumpet outro plays while Mega Man extracts his weapon. Thanks, Adam Kalachman Lesser S --------------- - Hardman - Topman - Get a weapon

This is my second time submitting (first time was an Orange Ocean remix from Kirby that was definitely not up to par) and ever since my last attempt, I’ve been working very hard on improving my composition skills and production quality. So, I’m pleased to bring you something that I think is A LOT better than my last try (though we’ll see if it stands the test). · This was one of my favorite songs off the original AC, mostly for the melody. Now, although it has more typical song-like quality to it (rather than K.K. <Insert Genre Here>) the title leaves some open interpretation. I always pretended like it was from the point of view of someone who got broken up with “Two Days Ago,” but was trying to stay strong. Well, this is a further look at that: it’s more atmospheric and hazy to represent the idea that it’s been “2 Long Years,” and thus a distant memory. Set in Chill/Downtempo to give it a more full, thought out sound, as if time has passed allowing more thinking over the years. In a general sense, that's more or less what inspired this piece. Anyway, can't wait to hear what you (folks) think! ------------------

Original Decision Your ReMixer name: Lidawg Your real name: Liam Charalambous Your userid: 45748 Name of game(s) arranged: Castlevania Name of arrangement: Enough Time to Dance Name of individual song(s) arranged: Out of Time Original: Comments: Well, in advance I'd like to say thank you for the feedback. It was really useful and it was also great hearing from OCR's newest judge (congrats btw). This version may sound rather different to the last but I think its punchier, clearer and more energetic. There isn't really any change to the arrangement. What's mostly changed are the synths. They should sound more organic and human. They are better quality and I've re-recorded the parts to give them a bit of swing and soul. Andrew mentioned that he would of liked the drums to have more oomph....I think they have a little more than before. Hopefully the soundscape is a bit more exciting and atmospheric too. Other than that I'd just thought I'd say how this mix has been a labour of love. I started the track in July for Vampire Variations and it is now almost unrecogniseable from what is was then. I've lost count of how many times this mix has been revised. I owe a lot to the guys on Vampire Variations, they were and are fantastic to work with. I really appreciated Chernabogue letting me onto the project, I can imagine I was somewhat of a risk with my limited abilities but I think it turned out okay in the end. I love the project so much and just want to show that passion by making this track as good as it can be. Whether this is accepted or not, the judges have really enabled me to stretch my abilities. Thank you again, all your hardwork is really appreciated!

It had been a while since I'd heard the mix after getting your feedback and couldn't believe how I'd missed the lack of bass. Hopefully this will sound cleaner, clearer and more human (piano-wise). In regards to girl's shirts, I posted a design that OA did for me for PAX East a few pages ago in this thread, which I have since started doing up home painting of. I'm planning on having a limited amount at Magfest, and may start taking orders if I can figure out a more efficient painting process.

This one? www.youtube.com/user/gvgkid The arrangement is a theme for the game Ace Attorney Investigations Miles Edgeworth The arrangement's name is ''Howl out, wolf!'', It is an arrangement of ''Speak up, pup!'' The Game was released for the DS in 2010 by Capcom. It's composers are Noriyuki Iwadare and Yasuko Yamada. Link to original soundtrack: Own thoughts about the arrangement: I had quite fun making this arrangement, when I first heard the original, I immedeatly felt like making an arrangement being as close to the original, while having instruments that sound more realistic. The finished version of that project can be found here: I was quite pleased with how it turned out to be, however some time later, I was playing around with that arrangement on FL Studio, and heard how it sounded pretty damn awesome if the tone and tempo was put up a bit, thus I decided to make a version of my own arrangement, where I aplied the earlier mentioned changes, plus som extra sounds and a proper ending in order to give the song a more dance-/discoclubish feel and later decided to put it up here. Looking forward to know if it is worth putting up. Sincerely GVG

Good day! Here is a metal medley i made with songs from Donkey Kong 64. A great game to say the least. In the same league as Banjo Kazooie! I tried to make the songs feel pretty metal, focusing alot on heavy riffing (chuggy riffs aswell as tremolo picking riffs a la Amon Amarth) along with double bass.(and even some blast beats at the end) The guitar is a seven string Ibanez tuned to drop G#. I picked darker themes which i thought fit in to the whole metal thing. The themes covered are, in order of appearance; Gloomy Galleon, DK Isle, Boss Introduction, Frantic Factory and Angry Aztec. The very last little melody at the very end is actually a snippet of melody from Banjo Kazooie, Grunty's Lair. I thought it'd be fun to throw it in there. all tied toghether with a few original riffs. Original music is by Grant Kirkhope. Here are some youtube links to the original songs: Gloomy Galleon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-xDYkwxIS8 DK Isle Boss Introduction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF0EFMsKPtY Frantic Factory Angry Aztec So yeah. Phew, at 192 kbit/s its at 7,98 mb in size so thats a close call! I call it "Diddy Kong's Metal Jam" since Diddy Kong's instrument in the game is an electric guitar. (which he totally rocks out!) OCR02480 - *YES* Castlevania 'Of Whips and Strings'
DragonAvenger replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
Very nice playing between you two, this was a fun listen. That being said, the overall aspect of this is that the mix as a whole is a medley, and fairly coverish. There are a couple moments of really nice personalization going on, the one that sticks out the best being at 2:16. I'd love to hear more of that sort of stuff from you guys, that's where the really good parts come in. Along with that, at times the track became really sparse, even for just two instruments. I'd like you to do more to fill out the soundscape and maybe work at playing a more complicated and interesting background part. Pretty cool overall, but right now it's not quite at our arrangement standards. Hope you do more stuff in the future! NO -
