  1. I have to admit, if I'd only listened to your mix, I would have never guessed it was two songs you used. The combination of the two works out really well, so nice pick on that. That being said, the arrangement feels a little lacking in personalization for a lot of it. The use of the main melody gets repetitive after a while, and I think there's more you could have done to add your own influence into it. I'd also think about using a different piano sample; to me it didn't fit into your soundscape very well. The song also just kinda stops, I'd think about something more solid for an ending. Production aspects are also holding this back. The piano sequencing is overall mechanical and could stand to be humanized. The rhythm guitars also feel a tad muffled, as does the kick drum. I'd look into maybe finding some other patterns for the drums (nice fills though!) to keep things more interesting, and possibly for the rhythm guitars as well. There is a good base here, but there's work to be done. I'd look into adding more arrangement and personalization to the track, and get your friend to work some more on the production end of things. Check out our WIP forums for some more advice. NO
  2. Very up to par with your usual arrangements. I paneled this one because there are a few times where things felt a little busy and crowded, but I feel it's still clearly over the bar and a welcome addition to the front page. YES
  3. Oy, this is an interesting one. We've certainly accepted mixes based mostly on drums before, and this goes beyond that to include some other elements, but this is pretty eclectic overall. I had to listen to this a few times; having your breakdown really helped things out. I think in the end I can hear the connection between the sources and what you've done here, I am just worried that whereas a mix like DrumUltima's track was based on a drum-only track, the sources you've used have more to them than that, so how recognizable it would be to someone listening without the references may vary. All that writing aside, I do think this is above the bar, albeit a little weird. I'll wish you luck for the rest of the vote. YES
  4. Apologies (or not) to Stevo, but this source is not my cup of tea at all. I give Luiza a lot of credit for taking on such a beast, and I think she did a pretty good job with something so difficult. There's tons of personalization, and a lot of stylistic choices that are fun, even if they don't sit with my listening enjoyment. I think it's passable, and I'm all for giving it a yes, but I can't say this will stay in my personal library. YES
  5. Emu really has a good handle on this. The main issue I'm hearing throughout the mix is the heavy reliance on the one background section of the source, which starts to drag on. I'd love to hear some variation on that part, you could do some cool alterations of that arpeggiated melody. Emu also mentions some production issues, that I will agree with. I also wouldn't mind hearing more variation in the drums. Fun start, keep at it. NO (resubmit)
  6. Very cool, a definite yes, and I will pick a couple nits. Some of the transitions feel a little lackluster, and I would have appreciated a bit more of a better lead in of them. The other small issue is the track feels a little long/repetitive, and could definitely be trimmed down a bit or changed up a little more. YES
  7. Like the style you went for this, it's an obvious choice based on the source. Your drum writing is also pretty sweet, it really reflects the mood and adds to the arrangement as a whole. While there isn't anything adventurous going on, the track does have some decent expansion on the source, mostly in the style approach. The instrumentation doesn't really change throughout the mix, and I think some kind of change/breakdown would be helpful to break things up, as the arrangement does get a bit long towards the end. I wouldn't be opposed to some of the fat being trimmed here, making a shorter and more pointed arrangement. There are some production issues that need to be addressed. Overall the track feels like it's got a lot of reverb on it, and it feels a muddy overall. Some of this is affecting the balance as well, as some parts aren't coming through clearly. Getting that tweaked will be a good start, and hopefully the other judges will have some further feedback. NO (resubmit)
  8. I'm down with hearing the album version if it is mastered better, although right now most of my crits are arrangement based. Some of your ideas are pretty awesome; love the opening, and the overall stylistic idea you have going here. That side of things is putting me strongly in favor to pass it. And against that, I have the fact that overall this feels rushed, as Emu pointed out, with some of the sections feeling copy/pasted, and overall things just not gelling together like I think they should. The chord progression feels altered, which is fine except the melody doesn't feel like it's fitting as well into it, and it's making things feel a bit awkward. The solo sections also feel a little too far disjointed from the source; maybe that would be the place to really bring the chord progression direct from the source and maybe some other factors to tie them in better. Production is overall pretty good, but the sax feels a little pasted on top and overpowering. Gotta say, overall this is just coming up a little short for me. I'm very curious to hear what the other judges think. NO (resubmit)
  9. There are some cool ideas here, but right away I'm noticing that you stay pretty close to the source material throughout. The main melody is almost verbatim to the source, and the structure has one change that I could hear. Even with some of the backing patterns changed up, this is way too close to the source and needs more arrangement. Based on what I'm hearing I think you could work out some cool original sections, or countermelodies, or little changes to the main melody to help bring your own feel to this better. You do some cool rhythmic changes later on (0:49, for example, is pretty cool), and I'd like to hear that and more earlier on and throughout the track. I'd also suggest adding more rhythmic changes than just each section change, as some of the backing parts get a bit boring. Production overall feels muddy, and the balance isn't quite where it needs to be. I'm hearing some high end stuff on what I am guessing is an organ at 0:14, but I couldn't tell you what it's playing due to it being overpowered. There's also what sounds like some sour notes at 0:35, but again it's hard to hear because of how drowned out they are by the rest of the track. The track is pushing pretty hard overall, and could be fine-tuned to allow the parts to come through better. Very cool source to pick, and you've got a start here, but this one needs work. NO
  10. Can't say that lead synth is working for me. It's pretty piercing when it gets up high, and overall I'm just not feeling it. Aside from that, I felt like the overall arrangement was a little static, without much development throughout the track. Even with your change-ups in the instrumentation, the fact that you've got the same progression played over and over is dragging this down. Altering the progression in some points would help, and maybe taking more sections out of context or giving it a new context would help. Talking with Emunator, he mentioned the ride cymbal being too up front, and I'll agree with that; it could come down a bit. The snare feels a little weird as well, but I'm not as bothered by that. I think this is close, but it needs some work to be site ready for me. NO (resubmit)
  11. I think Wes nailed this vote. The vocals area great, and really stand up to the originals well. I wish they'd been a little less conservative (as with the Nier sections in general), but I think the combination of the two themes does give it that edge to push it over the bar. I would have had just a little bit longer to the ending, as well, for a less sudden fade-out. It's a close vote, but I'm still happy to give it a YES

Resub1 Original sub Contact Information Your ReMixer name : Rockos Your real name : Roch Côté Your email address : Your website : None Your userid (number, not name) on our forums : 44017 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged : Chrono Trigger Name of individual song(s) arranged : Undersea Palace Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. : First started as I was practicing on a dubstep track. I wanted to sound a little bit like Skrillex. Then came in mind; That chrono song was playing in my head. It sounded like dubstep to me. So I started playing around with some Oscilliator and then came with 4 or 5 different bass style with their own texture. I all sampled it in wav then worked again on those sample. Now then, I was playing a little game of what bass come after this one and then how many time I change sample. It all sounded so dirty! Layered kick and hi hat added some snare/clap. ET voilà! After that everything placed in order and replayed the melody and changed some notes and added some time change signature! For the second part, I used Magus melody. It was as if I were pro (since I'm not!) and I sounded so cool on this one. With Hours of work, this is what I've done and wanted to submit it. Enjoy it and play it LOUD! Resub add: Well, the community is Huge and they helped me a lot. If this one pass, I wanna thank each member of the community that contributed to this mix by helping me with their feedbacks. Many Thanks! 2nd Resub edit: Well... not much too say. I've been through a lot with this mix. I've worked long on that one and then my ssd failed at me with an old backup done. So I add to rewrite some parts and redo all the Eq I had already redone. I worked much on dubstep project and now understand why this hadn't past. So I rework a little the balance of all the thing there. I don't think this song could get any improvement since the original writting was poor. Now that I mastered some technique I can do better song and scrap this one. I Want to submit it anyway to see what I got more and wanted to thanks again all the community right here. This is awesome how people think and having a whole bunch of musician always to help is a great feeling. I wanted to share this too with other people, hance the 2nd reason why I sent it. Enjoy and thanks again.
  13. Hey, this is my first time submitting a work. This is a remix of the BIT.TRIP RUNNER Zone 1 music. I took some liberties but the main theme is still very evident. I have no idea if this is up to OC Remix standards, I guess I am about to find out! Artist: Incinerator Drone (real name: Andrew Nee) Song: He Just Keeps Running and Running Enjoy! -Andrew ---------

Here's a little info about the Super Guitar Bros (as taken from the Vampire Variations website): The Super Guitar Bros are not actually brothers – they’re bros! Steve met Sam back in 2007 at a local coffee shop he was performing at with a mutual friend. After seeing Sam’s incredible classical skills, Steve knew the two of them had to start making music. After their first jam session together you could tell the two of them just clicked. They’ve been playing together ever since. Not only do they both love making video game covers, they have been working on many original songs, which they plan to share further down the road. http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperGuitarBros And now some info about the song: Sam and I had been planning on making a Castlevania arrangement for a while now so it worked out pretty well when I got a message from FoxxDragon telling me about the Vampire Variations album and asking if we would join. From beginning to end it took us probably about 2 months to learn each of the songs, figure out how we would arrange them together, practice the hell out of it, and then finally recording and mixing the song. As with all the other songs we've done, this one is played from beginning to end in one take: No cuts, no punch ins, no copy/paste, just a straight performance. Because of this we've spent many late nights trying to record the song with as little mistakes as possible. It took us at least 60+ takes before we finally got one we were satisfied with. It was a fun but also incredibly frustrating experience - same with all the other videos we've done so far. The video for "Of Whips And Strings" shows the actual performance that we used for the album, while the closeup hand shots were recorded at a later date. ======== Well that's it, hope you guys like it! ------------ - prologue - vampire killer - poison mind - heart of firehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlIvsBRexto - voyager
  18. Remixer Name: Brent Wollman UserID: 41181 Game Arranged: Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Name of Arrangement: The Friendly Shadows Songs Arranged: Kokubo Sosho Stealth, Kokubo Sosho Battle, Ruthless (Reprise) Original Composer: Amon Tobin My Mix: Source Tunes: Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory has an absolutely fantastic soundtrack, so I wanted to take a few of my favorite tracks and rearrange them. I took a pretty disjointed and experimental approach for parts of this mix. The ending was inspired in no small part by the outro to the Nine Inch Nails track "The Great Destroyer", which is characterized by really wild panning and crunching effects. I hope it sounds good to you. Source Breakdown: 0:00-0:06 Original At 6 seconds, the main drum pattern comes in. this is predominant in the first song I linked. It's such a badass beat that I chose to base most of the mix on it. 0:06-0:18 Here the bass part from the first track comes in. In the original it comes in right along with the drums. 0:18-0:24 This is the first half of the melody from the chorus in the first source track. 0:24-0:30 The main bassline comes in with the main drum pattern. There is an original melody panned to the right. 0:30-0:42 Here is the chorus melody again, completed this time. 0:42-1:06 Familiar drum and bass pattern... 1:06-1:48 The rhythmic percussive sound from the very beginning of the second tune I linked shows up pretty quiet and then at 1:12 it takes the stage. The chorus melody shows up again and plays a couple times. 1:48-2:03 A sample from the third linked track shows up behind that same bass/drum pattern from earlier. 2:03-2:27 The melody here is from the part at exactly 2:17 in the third track I linked. 2:27-END A bunch of effects wankery on the main drum pattern from the first track.

This is my sixth submission. I have no idea why I'm keeping track of this. Please note that this track is a part of the Wild Arms Project Album. Jade contacted me to contribute something to the album after some very nice people recommended me. Thanks again, you now who you are! I chose to make an arrangement of the Abbey track. I was a little worried because the source is only 45 seconds long. I had never before worked with such a short piece, but as it turns out, 45 seconds is more than enough to make a nice little ditty. I have to admit I wasn't familiar with the game at all, so I had to do a little research. It's a good thing that the track is played at the beginning of the game. It wasn't hard to find some videos on Youtube, just to get the feel of the place where you can hear it. A simple, peaceful community of, uhm, magic users and their teachers, I guess--GOD, the fanboys will have me skinned alive for this! Anyway, it all seemed very cartoonish to me, almost like an introduction to an old-school animated movie. I imagined Cecilia, the protagonist, waking up in the morning, realizing that she's late for class and getting dressed in a hurry, then running down the stairs and through the numerous hallways of the Abbey while the movie credits roll. The camera follows her and shows some typical morning scenes at the Abbey--a cat chasing a mouse in the hallway, a clumsy, absent-minded librarian dropping a huge stack of books, a young maid getting water from the well, a group of children playing with a dog in the courtyard, and so on. You all know the drill. As the track ends, Cecilia finally reaches the classroom. Then she takes a deep breath and fixes her hair one more time before entering. In other words, this track is the king of clichés! Nevertheless, I hope you people enjoy listening to it. It's a nice little orchestral piece. Very playful in my humble opinion. "Song of the Ancients" cannot be remixed without those beautiful vocals. Sabrina has provided her amazing voice for this track. Since it is Sabi's first submission to OCR, I didn't want to take any risks and chose a style I'm most comfortable with (Chillout). The track has been converted to 4/4 and "Gerudo Valley" blends in between vocal breaks. The intro and ending is original writing because the source didn't have any of those (and I hate fade-out endings). As for the structure of the song, I have tried to experiment a bit (it was necessary because I wanted to fit in most of Gerudo Valley in it). We hope you enjoy the song Comments (Sabrina): It was a great experience working with Dj Mystix on this track. I love the dreamy and atmospheric vibe he created with this arrangement. Recording the vocals for this track, was an enjoyable and welcome challenge due to the invented language and alternative pronunciation. We both very much hope that you all enjoy listening and thank you for your time. You told me it was too close to the original, but there is like 4/5 new riffs that I created, and I added new melodies to the original parts. So don't say it's too close to the original, as there is 80% of the song created by me. For the parts that sound uninteresting, it's subjective, up to you; on youtube lots of people think it's one of the best covers out there, and I like the result personnally. As I did it for fun and for myself, I won't modify the tracks that I submit.
