  1. Whoo, this will be fun. I will give you a small amount of agreement here. OC ReMixes aren't remixes. They are ReMixes. There is a difference. OCR has standards that vary from the typical norm, and we look for a specific niche of arrangement. It's not going to fit your average cover or remix, but that's not what we're going for. Plenty of that everywhere else. Guess what? Every remix on the site does have some semblance of the original. Some of the mixes are easier to figure out than others, true. Not to spark flames here, but just because you don't hear it and don't agree with it doesn't mean it's not there. Just going back to our standards and judging process, we look for a level of quality in production, so you're right, all the songs sound great! No judges, staff, or even DJP himself makes any money from this site. We work for free, to bring you awesome music. Any money made off of shirts/etc goes to keeping the site running. LOVE that song! Also, I totally hear Mario Paint throughout that; it's instantly recognizable to me. And it's a damn cool arrangement. Here's the thing; you're asking people to prove something that is somewhat subjective based on how people listen to things, their musical aptitude, and their ability to study music. Not everyone is going to come to the same conclusion, or be able to hear the connections between a source and a ReMix as well as others. In general, you can study a mix vs. a source and do a breakdown of what part is where in the mix, how they tie together, etc. You may or may not hear what someone points out to you. You may or may not agree between the connections. That's fine, because everyone is different. However, when you come to a board like this and claim that you are the absolute authority in knowledge of the subject, you're going to instigate flame wars that honestly are not worth the time or effort. I'd find it way better if you took the time to look at a breakdown of a mix and see the connections yourself, or disagree with them. Maybe write a thoughtful review of the mix on how it did or didn't work. Ask others to point out parts you might have missed. People who submit to OCR take the sources and work to put them in a new light and arrange them in a way that is different from your run-of-the-mill cover or remix (not to say that there aren't awesome and original covers and mixes, I assure you there are plenty!). We do things differently here, so enjoy this little niche of the video game arrangement community for what it is, not what it isn't, IMO.

I'm sure most of us have some incredibly cherished moments from our childhood playing Mighty Final Fight, Mega Man (and for some of us Captain Tsubasa too ). I started this mix with complete intention of mixing all sources I've used. Captain Tsubasa 2 has some incredible tunes but they are too small to make a remix out of each of them. I knew I was going to merge a couple of them together before I even started working on this mix. And I always thought Tecmo Cup source and Dr.Willy could be merged into one song. But instead of using actual source from Mega Man 2, I decided to use AkumajoBelmont's "For You" which, IMO, is not only way better than the original, but also one of the best videogame remixes out there; so this is my way of paying tribute to it. The first three were SNES, Genesis, and Sega CD. However, I only played the Windows 95 incarnation, and the remix was inspired by the reorchestrations from that version. Not sure how you want to list it though... First of all, when I saw that Pitfall wasn't in the OCR database, I was disappointed but also really excited to start my own mix, since the game had a freaking AWESOME OST. The game also took up a very good portion of my childhood, along with Earthworm Jim, Tekken 2, and Mega Man 8. Now, onto business. So, you guys forgot about that pathetic first sub from me right? Ok, good. Time to start over. I got FL Studio in May, and started the remix halfway through the month. I discovered the Gross Beat demo plug-in for glitch effects pretty early on, and decided to buy it and take the mix out back for a good ol' fashioned Gross Beatin', and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. The title is a pretty obvious nod to Mazedude's "Wily Malfunction," which is super kick ass. I drew a lot of inspiration from that and "K-Pax for Evermore," and I guess just Mazedude's stuff in general. I also think it's worth mentioning that I learned pretty much everything about production that I now know from the people on the WIP forum, so I'd like to give a huge shout-out to all the people who helped me, you guys are the greatest! I hope this track catches you as off-guard as it did Emunator, and I hope you like it as much as Level 99 did.   6. Definitely a cool concept, and something different for the theme which has a decent number of mixes already. I agree with the lack of balance between some of the melody elements being overpowered, and the bass just being overpowering. Along with that, more variation in the drums will go a long way to keeping the interest level up. In the end I think that the issues are just outweighing the good, and I'd like to see them fixed up before I give this a pass. Don't get discouraged, I think you're pretty close on this version!   7. Andrew hit all the points here, but I'm just on the other side of the fence in terms of my vote. I think it's super close, but I think it would be worth the time for the fixes. Mostly I'd like you to work on reducing the repetitiveness of the track. I understand the original is repetitive, but in the end I'm listening to your track as is, and I think you could go away from that background riff a few more times to keep my sanity. Adding a bit more of an ending is also up there on my list. I'm not as bothered by the mechanical sequencing due to the nature of the track, but a little bit of humanization certainly won't hurt either. I feel like this mix doesn't really develop once it gets going; I'd look more into varying up your dynamics, or moving around structurally more. Also consider doing something with the main piano riff; it gets very repetitive quickly. There are some balance issues too, where the piano is a bit overpowered by the bass, and some other areas that could be tweaked. Definitely a good start here, and lots you can work with. Name of Arrangement: Inside A Bad Decision Songs Arranged: Get Up!!, Match BGM, & Training/Password VERY long time listener, first time producer! Backstory: I was making a collection of mashups detailing the rise and fall of Mike Tyson (nevermind why). A pretty important point in his story comes when he was convicted of rape in 1992 and spent five years in prison, and I was having trouble coming up the right songs to use for this. Having realized that I also hadn't yet addressed what might be his greatest contribution to human progress in his eternally-popular 1987 NES game, I got an idea for this track. I used Ableton Live to create the somewhat-minimalist trip-hop and DnB instrumental, and recorded samples from a vinyl LP from 197X called "The Sexual IQ Test" which was just a bunch of Yes-No, True-False questions asked by some very square-sounding people that was supposed to gauge how sexually enlightened you were. The questions to which the correct answer was "false" or "no" were statements that might have been somewhat morally equivocal in 197X, but by today's standards were downright neanderthal (such as, "it is the woman's responsibility to please the man in whatever way he sees fit" and that sort of thing). When I put these horrible-sounding suggestions on alternating left-and-right channels with some reverb and a ping-pong delay, it felt like the quietly sociopathic inner dialogue of a deeply disturbed person. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it! I'm happy to give back to the site that has been slowly taking over my music library since 2004. As I said, this is my first-ever production effort, period, not just for OCR. So, I know you guys are really busy but if you reject it, could you give me some constructive criticism? I'd like to fix it up and eventually re-submit, or just so I don't make the same mistakes on future submissions and waste even more of your time. I would really appreciate it! I know I know.. Ice Cap Zone has been remixed more times than I can count over the last 10 years or so... but to my knowledge has never been done in my signature epic style. So while I'm one of the 5 peeps on the planet who hasn't tried to remix this amazing source material, figured I'd give it a shot. When I re listened to the source recently I immediately thought of slowing it down by half, adding a full orchestra, and a full on choir... making it, in my opinion, one of my most epic and well orchestrated remixes to date. Something fitting for a rescue sequence, hence the name. Thematically, this is amazing stuff, and after hearing it orchestrated will definitely remind many of you of such pieces like "Arrival to Earth" from Transformers by Steve Jablonsky and "Time" from Inception by Hans Zimmer.... which was definitely the vibe I was going for here. --------------
  13. Hey! I haven't attempted to submit in forever, but here I am. I participated in the Grand Robot Master Remix Battle 2011 and managed to get to round 3. I am submitting my round 1 entry because I liked it the best. This is the song I used to take Rozovian down. The intro is my first attempt at dubstep (ya, I know everybody is doing it), but then it quickly transitions to drum 'n bass for the majority of the song. The dubstep bass was made from scratch in sytrus. There are a lot of sections where elements from Napalm Man and Chill Man play over the top of each other (with adjusted keys and what not of course). I also swap back and forth a lot on which song is the dominant one. By the time it gets to the second half, I dabble into more original sections (though still very much playing off the original melodies). I was really happy to get pitted against Chill Man. He just so happened to have my favorite Mega Man 10 theme, And since my own choice of Napalm Man was my favorite Mega Man 5 theme, it was a pretty epic combination of source tunes. Hopefully the judges like this as much as the GRMRB voters did. I remembered this track from my childhood, and how it used to get me pumped up ready to fight the end of level boss. I had a listen to it, and noticed the melodies and styles used in the original composition were perfectly placed for me to recreate a version with a long, purposeful build up, leading to a powerful drop. I have remixed quite a few tracks over the last couple of years, but as my production skills have (in my opinion!) improved I thought it was about time I submitted one of my tracks to this awesome organisation. Ahhh, yet another J-E-N-O-V-A remix. That's right. I couldn't help myself, this song is just so catchy to me. I wanted to do something that beats the official remix done in Advent Children. Yet something that was a bit more closer to the original. This is actually how I imagined it turning out if Square was ever to remake FFVII and redo all of the music. Of course no remix on OC ReMix is complete without an original touch to it, right? The first half of this remix stays fairly close to the source material... with some noticeable differences, while the second half of the song is very original. I structured it as if it were a mainstream song, and gave it a jazzy feel at certain parts while maintaining a heavy and musical atmosphere. Anyone that is a fan of electric guitars will probably love this song! Now, it's very difficult to mix something like this with orchestral instruments and guitars + drums. So I had trouble bringing the mix up to a reasonable volume without clipping and distortion, but I think it's close enough to be acceptable in OC's standards. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this remix. I had a lot of fun recording my guitar playing to this one. -----------------------

Original Joojment: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33858 I thought I had resubbed this already on May 16th, but I had sent the link the wrong way and it wasn't received -- i blame myself. Write-up: The idea for this mix started pretty huge, as it was originally going to be a medley of all of the songs. Right now it's only 3 songs (2 if you count the intro as 1 song) and is clocking in at almost 5 minutes, so a full medley probably wouldn't fit on an OCR post. I knew that I wanted to write the non-Engrish version of the introductory dialogue, so I wrote out a little script and asked Brushfire and Level 99 if they would be up for doing the voice acting. They did it, and I'm very thankful for that. They made about a 9 minute recording that was pretty much a mini-episode of OCAD and I chopped about 30 seconds of dialogue for the song from that. They did a few variations of each part. You can hear the opening voice almost goes into a laugh at the end, because Level 99 found that performance to be "over the top". Brushfire commented that is sounded like Snake. Naturally, I slapped a cloner on there and pitch shifted it down a bit to maximize on that. There's a lot of instances where I chose the performance that they probably would have considered too silly, but it came out very well and I threw a couple jokes in there as well. There was a ridiculous amount of sound effects and dialogue in there. Here's a few fun facts: - The wilhelm scream appears twice, signifying the death of Level 99 and then Brushfire - The second explosion is combined with a jaguar growl, a tribute to the movie MacGruber where I had heard that - There's a ton of sound effects from Star Trek throughout the opening. - During the second source, there's a truck backing up sound, a conveyor belt, and an electric garage door engine. This is supposed to recreate the "move zig" portion of the original game intro. - The 8-bit sounding explosions at the beginning were recorded by me personally from Zero Wing's sound test. I'd like to give a big special thanks to Level99 and Brushfire for the dialogue for the opening. I'd also like to thank OA for giving very specific details of which levels to fix on the mix before resubbing this. I'd like to thank the audience who listens to this and firefighters everywhere. It may have been the original Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, or any other popular game. My first game however, was Mega Man IV. Even though this game continually to discouraged me because of its difficulty, there was one little factor that kept me playing it. That was the music. I was captivated by how catchy some of the songs were. As you can probably guess, Skull Man’s theme was by far my favorite song. In fact, I think he is my favorite robot master in the entire Mega Man series. Part of the reason was probably the fact that he was the only robot master that I was able to beat. Nonetheless, I have many fond memories of this theme. When I started out with this arrangement, I was not sure what to expect. The only thing that I knew from the beginning was that I wanted this to have a sort of trance/ electronic feel. I didn’t have a whole lot to work with since the original theme was rather repetitive. All that I could do was sit around, and play with the different parts of the arrangement to find the perfect sound and rhythms. Gradually, I built the piece up into what it is now. I am rather pleased with how it turned out. Enjoy!

Kamlongera Email address: fallen_seraphx@yahoo.co.uk Userid: 10661 Personally, the "Still Alive/Shine" motif is a melody that feels so fragile and human. Placed within the context of the world of 'Mirror's Edge', it stands as something so contradictory to the synthetic glass cage that surrounds the player...in essence, an element of freedom and humanity. I did not have a proper plan when approaching the arrangement, I sort of started with the Shine melody and the piece evolved from there - concepts forming as I worked from the intro to the final seconds. Early on during the arranging process, the idea formed of taking the melody and using it as an anchor for the player/listener whilst taking them through a glass/mechanical world took form. The Shine motif consists of two parts - the first half, the straight-played melody; and the second, a line of descending notes. Whilst the first half remains largely consistent throughout the track, the appergio is modified slightly each time it is played to offer the listener a sense of movement (or, moments when they are, in essence, freerunning and enjoying the peace of it - the choice of piano made to push the fragility of the idea). Surrounding these "anchors" are intervals where the mechanical elements take hold of the piece. I feel that there is a certain purpose to each part of the song: for example, the drums act as a heart beat of sort, dropping out whenever Faith's, or the player/listener's, heart would stop (either at moments of making large leaps or of simply taking in the cityscape whilst running). The motif makes its first appearance (unaltered) 19 seconds into the piece; again at 1:16, the motif comes in with a minute change towards the end of the descending pattern. At 1:55 mark, the descending notes now ascend; and then descends whilst holding some notes. The motif comes in once more for a final appearance at the 3 minute 33 seconds mark (where the second half is doubled in a higher register). The title's nothing spectacular, I admit...it was pushed for after having largely failed at coming up with anything clever. The final part of the arrangement follows the concept that the player has made a leap, holding his/her breath whilst hoping they make it to the other side. As corny as it sounds, such jumps (whether within a game or in their average day-to-day real-life equivalents) are made largely with faith. Interesting trivia? This current draft of the piece is Revision #14. I was initially going to sub it three months ago, but held onto it and reworked a couple of things. As a result: there's a new intro, some semblance of bass, revised outro, little changes here and there throughout the track...and... Have I gone on for too long?   23. I like the subdued entrance that leads into the more powerful core, but right now I will have to agree that the production isn't cutting it as is. The drums are overall not pulling their weight, most especially the snare. The guitars are a little nasal feeling at the beginning, I will agree with Halc, although that didn't bother me too much. Later on, though, they could be brought up in the track to increase the energy. I think this could sound pretty nice with those fixes. NO (resubmit)
  24. The biggest issue is definitely that the song becomes repetitious. There's plenty you can do to add variation between the runs of the song, and right now you've got a nice base to work with. I like the combination of instruments, including the bass ( Halc), but it wouldn't hurt to add or take away some parts to spice things up as well. NO (resubmit)
