  1. I agree with almost everything Andrew wrote, but I'm just on the fence about this. I found it hard to really focus on the track due to how jumpy it was in terms of structure, and I felt like the piece didn't develop as cleanly as it could have from it. That being said, there are some cool arrangement ideas here, and the genre change and gritty overall mood is pretty cool for the track. I agree that the samples are basically good, aside from the strings and piano, which in comparison aren't holding their weight. I also felt the ending was a bit sudden, and could be fleshed out a bit. I'd say it's close, but I'm willing to let this squeak by. YES (borderline)
  2. 31 is Wheelie (the humping little bot from Trans- Bayformers)
  3. I'll edit in the first post too, but: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkyA2xJvloATdDBtdHJ6MTFCSzhrbVJLX2FqODdyU1E&hl=en_US I laughed when I remembered the robot from Saved by the Bell.
  4. I think Vig mentioned all the good parts. I found that while there are a couple slightly medley-feeling parts, nothing is really to the point that it's a detractor to the song. I agree there are some really good writing parts that shine out very well, and the overall production is nice. Vig mentioned 2:20 as being a weakspot, and I will agree, that was probably the weakest transition of the entire song. Picking a lot of flaws, but that's because I know you're skill level. Definitely over the bar, and a fun listen! YES
  5. So check out this poster First, it's a take on Where's Waldo (obviously), so you have to find the cute little robot in the pile of cute and less-than-cute robots. There's also a contest, apparently to win a signed copy of the poster from the artist. I just think it'll be fun to see who can name the most here, or see if we can eventually get them all with our collective knowledge. Here's the numbered picture for the contest and ease of naming Good luck! EDIT: Spreadsheet editable by all!
  6. I think Andrew essentially got this just right. The arrangement is good, but runs a little long, and because it's a little lower on energy as a whole it's harder to keep focus. The samples are ok, and they are used well, which improves them drastically, although nothing was wowing me completely. It's a close one, but it squeaks by for me. YES (borderline)
  7. I do like how you adapted the source to this style. It fits surprisingly well, and the overall soundscape isn't too cluttered. Not really digging the sound effects; they felt superfluous, but for the most part they are kept in the background. I'm not as torn by the ending as Andrew, but I agree it's not the strongest ever. YES
  8. I will say that while this is distinctly a medley, the transitions and overall style keep things organized and together, and the themes mesh very well from one to the next. I have no problems passing this. YES
  9. Learn to type, noob (I agree, it should re-direct to the proper page).
  10. Agreed that the playing is definitely solid. Overall I am underwhelmed with the source itself, but I think you've taken it up a notch here nicely. I think this borders on repetitive at times, but in the end I think it's not a dealbreaker. YES
  11. I think you have a pretty cool idea for the fanfare, but right now the track is very repetitive, and the bass (while the focus for sure) is drowning everything else out like crazy. I feel like the track is more about the dubs than the fare, and I'd like you to even out that dichotomy a bit. NO (resubmit)
  12. First listening to this I would have said it was a cover, but I definitely thing this goes beyond that as the arrangement goes on. Andrew's correct that it does take a while for it to get to that point, and a lot of the sections leading up to the really good parts are repetitive. I'm also going to agree that the samples arrange from good to not very good, and it would benefit to search out some better samples to really make the soundscape come to life (humanization will help!). Loved the end-arrangement, hope to hear this one re-worked! NO (resubmit, please)
  13. Very beautiful playing. I like how you treated the source; it's a delicate melody in itself, and you only expanded on that. I had only one small issue with the piano sound in that the higher notes got a little plinky, but I've hear that in lots of other soundfonts (and pianos, too!). YES
  14. I am somewhat torn on this one. I think this is the best I've heard from you in terms of arranging, and overall I think you've done a nice job. I agree that overall this has a bit of a mechanical feel that's making things just not sit quite right, and the balance between instruments is also slightly off. I'd like to see that stuff adjusted before this hits the front page, but there's a lot of promise here. Can't say I'm exactly feeling the ending either, but that might be more personal taste. NO (please resubmit)
  15. Andrew's got this. The arrangement is fine, and the transitions are great, but the ending is definitely a weakspot of the mix. I'll also agree about the leads feeling a little buried, although it's not too bad. YES
  16. Yay! This is super fun! Nice choice of sources and style! I love that you followed the legit march form as well, including the piccolo solo/brass feature for the trio repeat. Very cool. YES
  17. Depends on the type of edit we're talking about. If it's a little thing here and there that isn't changing anything drastically, we'd probably be inclined to take it, but we'd rather that the track be finished when you send it in. Anything that's more than a minor change isn't gonna work for us, because it would have to be re-judged. Feel free to ask us on a specific track if you really want to do a change, if nothing else we say NO (see what I did there?). Resubs are exempt from the 3-week rule, albeit I know I'd be personally less inclined to vote on your stuff if you submit 5 resubs and a new mix at once
  18. Loving the arrangement overall, it's very catchy and recognizable throughout. I agree with Andrew that the voice samples are tastefully used, and the panning on them really is a fun idea. No qualms at all with the arrangement overall. I have to agree, though, that the panning on the bass is very weird, and throws things off-kilter. I also wouldn't have noticed the missing mids as much, but since Andrew mentioned it I have to agree with that as well. Liking it, and I hope you tweak this! NO (resubmit, please!)
  19. I think Andrew hit all the right points on this one. The track is using a lot of the chords of the original, but I'm hearing very little of the original melody here, and the source gets kind of lost as a result. I think you can use some of the melody points to get a stronger tie in to the original here, and give you more to work with to develop your track. I do think everything is going loud throughout, and I'd have loved some more variation, both in volume and soundscape. As Andrew mentioned again, the track starts to get repetitive, so a change in melody/chords/volume/instruments is going to give the track more interest overall, and keep the listener focused. Nice source to use, and you've got a good start, just needs some fine tuning. NO (resubmit)
  20. Hi, here's the link to my first remix submission called "Metropolitan Silence": Contact Information: ReMixer name: Matoshi Real name: Borna Matosic (Borna is a Croatian male name, in case you're wondering ) Email address: borna@twilighttrain.de Website: http://www.twilighttrain.de Userid: 46837 Submission Information: Name of game(s) arranged: F-Zero (SNES version) Name of arrangement: Metropolitan Silence Name of individual song(s) arranged: Mute City Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc.: I fell in love with the F-Zero melodies at an early age while playing the game on the SNES. Many years later one day I picked up my guitar and wondered how those old melodies would sound if I recorded myself playing them. So I decided to do a remix of "Mute City", my favourite F-Zero tune! Out of respect for the source material, I kept the basics of the song close to the original. I programmed drums and bass and used VST instruments to play the parts. Then I used my effects processor (PodXTLive by Line6) to record myself playing the rhythm guitars, the main lead guitar and two more harmony lead guitars directly to PC. Finally, my Roland Juno-Di Synthesizer got its fair share of action. I plugged it into the Pod to record some synth lead harmonies for the epic intro and a groovy keyboard solo (my first keyboard solo ever! ) for the break in the middle of the song - which is my main original contribution within this remix. When it comes to the actual mixing, I'm pretty much still a n00b. This is actually the first mix I've ever done that turned out cool, at least to my ears! Hope you guys like it! 21. I approve of this, and the dude's indignant response.
  22. I think this is the best application and performance of your vocals I've yet heard, nice job! Definitely hearing a good improvement from you in this. Unfortunately, I'm also noticing that things aren't quite lining up correctly here, and overall the parts need to be tighter. I think if you did that you'd be a good way to really making this song work and be awesome. I also agree about the piano being dry, and those distant bass notes are a little strange. Hope to see this one again! NO (resubmit)
  23. I will agree with Andrew here. The source is short, but I think there's a lot more you can do with it based on what I'm hearing here already. Along with that, the samples aren't the best, but I think you can also pull a little more humanization and life out of them. Nice that you're approaching a not-oft-seen source, though! NO (resubmit)
  24. Can't disagree with the boy's judgements. This is a fun mix that really pulls forward a lot of different moves in a sort time. I agree with Vig that the guitar feels a little too far forward, making the track almost a little sparse feeling at times, but it's not a dealbreaker in any way. Lots of fun and definitely keeps my interest. YES
  25. Game: Kirby's Epic Yarn Platform: Wii Name of original composition: Frosty Wheel Composer(s): Tomoya Tomita, Jun Ishikawa, Hirokazu Ando All three composers are credited for the game's soundtrack. I'm not sure which one composed this particular piece. Name of my arrangement: Tropical Wheel My email and website: jabackf@yahoo.com http://jonahsmusic.leadhoster.com Link to my remix: Alternative remix link on Newgrounds: Youtube link to the original song: My Comments: This is my second video game remix. It has a lot in common with my first submission, Dark Shores of Hyrule. However, Dark Shores was far from a perfect mix. It had quite a few problems. It just barely made it by the judges panel. I'm hoping my second submission will do a little better. Not really sure what made me choose Frosty Wheel as my source material. I've not had a chance to actually play Epic Yarn yet but I do own the soundtrack and I absolutely love it. Sure it may be over the top cute and cuddly, but don't let that fool you. There's some serious soundtrack writing skill on this thing. The original track is a short and simple piano piece. My remix takes it in a bit of a different direction, but I think it still maintains the cute and cuddly atmosphere of the original. I have to give thanks to the people on the OCremix forums as well as the VGmusic forums for their valuable feedback on this piece. They're suggestions helped shape and improve the final version of Tropical Wheel.
