  1. Sweeeet! My cousin has been hanging back on getting the Orange Box since he a Mac. Hopefully he'll get it now. >:3
  2. Frogg is just paranoid (and in a good way). I've tried listening to the atmosphere as well but it never works all that great. How he does so well, I'm not sure. I'll have to record a game some time and watch the replay from his perspective to see if I can pick up any tips.
  3. Yes, you always know when he has died because the beats... they start the boxing.
  4. Yes, actually I do agree that it is a terrible idea. The suggestion was 99% in jest. This video is actually what I had in mind when I said that. Did you see the other ones where they did "My Heart Will Go On" or "Hollaback Girl" (both equally horrible)?
  5. Ok, ok... fair enough... I can see the obvious "not working" of pumping Dragonforce but what about the times when Brushfire or others play lounge music or background vibes that can easily be talked over? EDIT: One of the reasons I asked for dynamic volume changing was for situations such as this... to give comfortable volume levels for background music. EDIT EDIT: Atmuh, you still haven't offered any positive input as to what music you do think would be appropriate. Are you evading the question or can you not think of anything at the moment or do you not think any music is appropriate ever? From what I've seen that makes it all the more hilarious!
  6. Ok, I'm just trying to grok the situation here... Atmuh, do you not like *any* music or are you just objecting to the specific type of music that is played? If it's the specific type, could you offer any suggestions of music that you would like played? Whenever I play music (usually Benny Hill's "Yackity sax" in the pre-game mayhem) it's intended to be more of a server service and not as an annoyance. I feel that, when used appropriately (eg correct volume levels and tasteful music choices), music can add a lot to the atmosphere of a server and give it a unique feel that can draw and keep people. On the flip side, I agree that playing "the most annoying sound ever" loop or music that is way too high can alienate many people or make it difficult to play. However, I'm happy with the "if someone asks, turn it off" rule (which was my personal policy anyway) and you *are* well within your rights to ask. In other news: would anyone be interested in a server karaoke night some time?
  7. Wait a minute... this is not private message!

By the way, after seeing the link in your sig, I finally got around to watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Very good film for such a low budget!

  8. If you're cryptically referring to the "adjust microphone volume" setting in the Audio tab of the options menu, I've found that every time I change that (always to set it lower) I'll come back a few seconds later and it's BAM all the way up to the max setting again. I did some snooping around in my Windows microphone settings windows and did find a "level" adjuster slider. I'll try that next time I'm on TF2. Unfortunately, this would mean that ALL audio levels through the mic (including meaningful chat) will have reduced volume. Oh, well... EDIT: While looking for volume control, I also found an alternative media player called "MuhSound" at https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=81137 I'll have to try it out own my own some time.
  9. Speaking of volume, I noticed that after a certain update a few weeks back the micspam/music that was normally at a fine level was super loud. Anybody know if you can (on the fly) change the volume of the stuff you're transmitting? The only results I found looking that up on Google involved using Goldwave before hand. Being able to dynamically change volume on request would be nice.
  10. Hey, don't know if anyone's seen this yet but... "Team Portress" is a mashup of TF2 and Portal. Demo video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdHE_NBmLwU
  11. Text request of "Stop this music now" (or something to that effect) occurred every time music started while the rest of the server (with a one time-exception of one other person) found the music to be quite relaxing.
  12. So what was up with Atmuh complaining about the music last night? Any time someone would start something, he'd immediately request it turned off. If you don't like someone's music, add them to your personal mute list. Or is this just more trolling?
  13. So hey, I'm hosting a multi-day LAN party with some of my friends from school. TF2 is one of the games that we're playing but I can't seem to be able to use unlocks. We tried following some of the instructions online we google'd for (like at http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12270788) but to no result. Know how to do this? I also noticed that there were problems online with unlocks. Are we in a problem-period with the Mac client coming and the engie update eminent? Anybody know?
  14. I think you do have a valid point there. Backburner/Natasha/Huntsman and others do make it a bit easier on low end pubbers. However, fortunately, you can't really say that they break the game (mostly) but simply add a new dimension to the game. Many unlocks are not even used in competitive play (and how many are even allowed?)
  15. Well, the vid was nice but it really didn't tell us much about the update. Anybody have speculations, yet?
  16. Phew... just got through a Cryptography exam. By the way, it don't help when you're taking a multiple-choice and NONE of the answers are correct. :-/ At least the teacher recognized them as wrong. Looks like I'll be on for a bit while I push off finishing my Pohlig-Hellman discrete log program.
  17. Hey, that would be nice! I would so much rather trade a hat with someone for one I want than craft two (or three) and pray that I get a decent one. One crafted hat takes a ridiculous number of items (I think the minimum is like 3 * 3 * 3 * 3 = 81 weapons!)
  18. Per your recommendation I did go, uh, get a copy of Megas XLR. (I forget, is the 'T' word not allowed here? Some forums are very strict about it.) It has the very clear "heavily influenced by anime" look while still retaining the blatant "animated in the USA" feel. It has a very childish sense of humor and allure and uses blatant plot holes for effective comedic purposes (eg the technicalities of "technology", the "how'd he do that" moment, the "that wasn't there a second ago" trick, and the "that doesn't seem physically possible" technique). The characters seem likable and the plot, while generic and fairly thin, should prove enough of a background for the two seasons it ran. There also seem to be a good number of quotable lines good for mikespam. That all from the first episode! Thanks Burshfire! Finals at my school are this week so now I'll have something to look forward to after mine are all done!
  19. First screenshots of native Steam Linux client. (May 1) http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODIwNQ This means that TF2, Portal, HL2, and the like are on their way! This is just one more push to get me to abandon Windows as my primary OS. I know some of my Mac user friends are having a Windows UNinstall party when the OSX Steam client comes out as they were only using Windows for TF2.
  20. Woah, I just found out that Peggle Extreme can be downloaded for free on Steam. Some guy made a bit list of all the free things on Steam! Check it out at the link... http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=851573?repost=yes EDIT: Wait, wait... no, this is just the free version that came with the Orange Box. I thought this was the full version Peggle. Sorry for the misdirected excitement.
  21. Yeah, I normally also get around 30-70 ping. Sucks about the re-route. :/ Hah! I just saw your signature, Powerlord, and first read I thought it said "enemies of the hair." I find that more amusing.
  22. I've had similar experiences with "invisible people." Once on double-cross I was playing sniper and nobody could apparently see me. Twas quite epic (for me at least)! Headshoots from nowhere and everywhere! Don't know how it happened, though.
  23. Hey, cool! That works, too. The wikipedia synopsis sounded ok. Unfortunately, I have never seen that show. How many characters / soundboards would you have available?
  24. well, duh, I knew that [/sarcasm] On a unrelated note, how about Super Mario RPG for next week's character theme?
  25. Hey, just a heads up. The Blu server is acting a bit wonky. Every time we try and initiate a vote, we get the message "Vote is already in progress." This was a persistent problem even over a map change. -Krowbar
