  1. Hello! I'm looking for a stereo vibrato effect plugin, VST or any other format that works in FL Studio. I can't seem to find one through Google - but maybe someone here knows of one? I don't need anything fancy, something like this would be fine - but the problem with that one and a few others I've found is they convert the sound to mono, and I need stereo. MVibrato looks good but refuses to open (unknown error on load), and 300-euro autotune software isn't ideal for this purpose. Any ideas?
  2. Thanks once again! I'll try these things out. As for the vibrato, I'm going to need a stereo vibrato effect (e.g. VST), or alternatively, I need to figure out what's wrong with QuadraSID. I already asked at ReFX and a couple of other places so an answer may be on its way. The keyboard works otherwise fine (sends notes, pitchbends etc) but for some reason in the modulation matrix, none of the assignments of MIDI-Ctrl (0-127) have any effect to anything at all (pitch or anything else), everything just acts as 0 no matter what I do with the keyboard. Hoping it's some elusive setting I just haven't found yet. I also tried splitting the signal and using mono vibrato effects, but that made vibrato phase out of sync (and sounded otherwise bad too), and I also tried automating channel pitch in FL, but that was buggy and just a bad solution in general. I could also go with some other synth besides quadrasid for the lead, but it's already layered from 3 quadrasids and I like its sound so I'm hoping for an easier solution first.
  3. Here's a new version now! (link) Changes thanks to timaeus (& Kumori): - a little more sidechain in the low end - louder snare (esp. hi freq) - louder drums at around ~2min (although they're still supposed to be secondary) - some portamento notes in the lead - some more variety in the drums Also, BPM from 155 to 165 (after listening to some DnB I felt like it needed a tempo boost plus a few little tweaks and fixes here and there The ending is still as it was, having a little trouble coming up with fresh ideas there. Also I wanted to add vibrato to the lead, but for some reason I can't seem to get quadraSID's midi control to cooperate with me. (And I haven't found a decent, free stereo vibrato VST - if you know one, I'd love a link!). Any more feedback, or should I put it out to the interwebs? Thanks again.
  4. Thanks a lot for the feedback, much appreciated! Especially the portamento/vibra was like yeah, why didn't I! There is already some sidechain, and I can increase it a bit, but I'm not a fan of an audible sidechain effect though. Cool track, that Zircon one. Anyway, I'll take all your suggestions into consideration when making a new version. Coming soon. Oh and the original link works again (domain expired on it, oops).
  5. Hi! So I'm making a sort of Drum'n'bass meets guitar remix of this tune here: . A friend of mine turned 30 and I gave him a remix wish (of any old video game) for a birthday present. He chose this one.Remix here: (link) Taking a few liberties because the original is just a 54-second loop. There's a few details still to work on (intro and outro particularly), but I think it's getting pretty close to the final version. Anyway, if anyone wants to give any feedback, that'd be awesome! I was thinking of releasing the last version sometime next week, so I'll still have plenty of time to take any suggestions into account. Also, do you think I should submit it to OCR? I'm not sure what kind of music they're looking for these days - the last time I tried submitting something was back in 2008.
  6. I love what you did with the track, very enjoyable to listen a fresh take on the tyrian theme. Nice amount of variation with the instruments too, and the 2-voiced overdrive guitar (1:28 ->) is just awesome. However, the part at 1:56 - 2:08 felt dissonant to me, like the chords didn't follow the melody very well.
  7. Hello! A new indie space shooter game called MUKS came out recently. Here's its launch trailer: Since this forum is VGM oriented, I thought it'd be a good place to post the soundtrack. So here you go! MUKS Soundtrack (direct link) It contains various genres of electronic music. Tracklist: 01 - Byproduct - MUKS Menu 02 - John Peeba - Fire 03 - Byproduct - Platform (MUKS edit) 04 - Byproduct - Crysprism (MUKS edit) 05 - John Peeba - Living Forms 06 - Byproduct - Vector (MUKS edit) 07 - Byproduct - Space Traveller (MUKS edit) 08 - John Peeba - Palus Somni 09 - John Peeba - Ianai 10 - Alexander Brandon - Asteroid Dance (Byproduct remix) 11 - Tmaqan - Quantum Messiah Internal Chaos The game is completely free (also coming for PC later), and so is the soundtrack. The Tyrian remix was included with Alex Brandon's permission. Hope you enjoy! If you like it, you'll find more at: Byproductmusic.net John Peeba's soundcloud Tmaqan @ mikseri.net
  8. Here's a new version, which will be final for now (I'll be away for a few weeks): https://soundcloud.com/byproduct/asteroiddance_final Downloadable also at http://byproductmusic.net Thanks again for the feedback!
  9. Thanks for the feedback! I now have a pretty good checklist of things to look into when making the final version, and while I probably can't fix everything satisfactorily, I'm sure I can improve it a lot. Much appreciated! As for the eq, I can't hear any large chunks of midsections missing myself so I'm not sure I can fix it, but I'll keep that comment in mind and see if I could find something wrong there. EQ-wise the only major "butchering" I've done is taking out the lowest end of the horns and cellos because the electronic bass is there. Everything else has been minor tweaking. The remix used to be electronic mixed with orchestra, but one by one I ended up removing everything electronic except the bass, so the eq could probably use a complete overhaul at this point, I admit. But I do want to get some version of this remix out before I leave on a 3-week holiday on Monday, so starting the mix again from scratch is probably not going to happen. At least not before May anyway.
  10. Thanks! Now that you said it I notice these things too. Also got some useful feedback on some of the string parts from a professional violinist - so a tweaked final version is definitely coming. Oops, I called it KOPS by accident - the game is actually called MUKS (KOPS is a similar game from the 90s). I normally wouldn't use remixes in games, just to be on the safe side, but I in this case, for three reasons I don't think there are copyright conflicts: 1) the remix is completely from scratch and absolutely no assets of the original used (not even temporary stuff like MIDI files), 2) the game will make literally zero money (it's completely free, there are no payment options, no ads, nothing) so it's not commercial as such, and 3) if someone (=Epic Games?) did want to protect Tyrian music copyrights, I'd imagine they'd start by taking down the original content from youtube etc before hunting remixers. Just for the sake of manners, I asked A.Brandon himself (via twitter/youtube as I don't have his email) to be sure he doesn't mind, but unfortunately got no answer. I don't feel like messaging someone I don't know repeatedly, so I'll just have to hope he doesn't take offense. The remix is obviously a tribute and an easter egg (and not an attempt to try to benefit from the original track), but you can never tell how people react to such things if you don't get to ask them.
  11. Me neither, but asking an expert player can help a lot. They can listen to the track and tell where to add vibrato, which note should begin faster etc.
  12. Agreed, although if I have an instrument that needs to have its EQ changed in between sections, I find it easier to have several EQ plugins for the one instrument and just turn them on and off as needed. Saves a lot of trouble compared to automating EQ bands or such. Sure it's not as resource efficient (takes more memory and maybe cpu), but who's running out these days.
  13. I've been using the Gold version (sells for $250), which seems like a good choice if you're going for something in between the 100 and 500 suggested in the first post. I don't have much experience with other software so I can't really compare, but at least for me the Gold version seems to have all I need to make the orchestra sound "real" - that is, dozens of different playing styles and velocities sampled for each instrument, stage positions simulated etc.
  14. Edit: final version here: https://soundcloud.com/byproduct/asteroiddance_final Made a synth orchestra remix of Asteroid Dance from Tyrian OST, for an upcoming indie spaceship shooter game called KOPS (should be released for the iPad in a couple of weeks). It's also my first orchestra track, actually. Just started learning the ropes on these eastwest plugins, so go easy on me. The original track was made by Alexander Brandon, available for example here: Oh, and the game will be 100% free (and no ads or dlc or anything of the sort), so I'm not using someone elses melodies for a commercial project.
  15. Alright, reality check time. There hasn't been much activity in months and the people who have signed up for the tracks have most likely forgotten about them by now. I don't have the time to do the entire OST myself and don't want to make a half-assed attempt. So to get it off my table I'm announcing this project as abandoned. This is so that it won't confuse other remixers who might consider doing it at some point.) If you need files such as MIDIs or NSFes or would like to compile the OST and use the 2 tracks we got done, feel free to drop me a message.
  16. I've been asked to make music for maybe 5 game projects that never got completed, and this has been a huge disappointment. So saying yours may not get finished at all is a big no-no and not just for me, I think. Indie soundtracks can be made in only a few months (depending of course on your needs and the number of people involved), so if you haven't had success recruiting so far, I'd suggest try again when you more than just pretty words to show for the game you're making. (:
  17. It's all yours! Is that a "I'd like to sign up"? If so, which track specifically are you interested in remixing? (I checked out some stuff on your soundcloud and liked it)
  18. Two tracks done, updated the first post. My original intention was to release the whole thing in one go, but since it's taking a while, and the two ready tracks are already out in the interwebs, here they are: http://soundcloud.com/psynes/roof-is-on-fire-tmnt2 I'm still looking for couple more people, since there are still a few tracks that no one has signed up for. The tracks that are claimed but not started yet are also open for negotiation if someone has some sort of passion for those particular tracks.
  19. Got to update the first post again, yay. Also, I'm going to a language course in Scotland, so might be fewer updates and slower replies for the three weeks while I'm there, but the project seems to be progressing just nicely now, with plenty of stuff in the works. Thanks! Still waiting for someone to take on remixing that sewer track, actually.
  20. I agree. Hmm, I should look into that DoD. Thanks for the tip. And Stage 2 is yours! Sorry for the slight delay in reply. Also, yay, progress. (Updated the first post)
  21. The project seems to have taken off. We now have two WIPs in a pretty nice stage, two claimed tracks and a couple of people who'll join in a bit later. Still plenty of tracks available, though! I was informed of a .nsfe file, and renamed the tracks according to what names there were in the file. Also color coded progress in the first post like people have done in some other threads here.
  22. Thanks guys. Oh, they haven't been remixed yet either? I might join in once we're done with TMNT2 - might take a good while though.
  23. -- Note: this project has been abandoned due to lack of activity. If you want to pick it up feel free to contact me for useful files etc. Original message follows. -- Hello! TNMT2 (Or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2) is not only one of my favourite NES games, but also has amazing music which for some reason is not yet remixed to its death like many other games. So I started up a little group to remix its entire soundtrack. This is not an OCR-Official project. A few people involved are not even members of this forum (we communicate in a closed FB group), but I thought this might be a good place to post a message anyway. One easy way to browse through the music of the game is this longplay Youtube vid: . There are 13 tracks to remix, plus some cutscene jingles and whatnot if we feel like it, but tracks first. The original .NSF file, ripped wavs and some midis are available. We have some quality control, but no artistic directions (anyone is free to work in the genre they like), nor a deadline. If the entire project is otherwise ready but seemingly endlessly waiting for contributions of inactive people, then the more active people can take up their tracks. But in general, there's no hurry. If you want to join in or know more, you can drop a message here or on IRC (Byproduct@EFNet). I can understand skepticism since I'm not an active member of this forum and the project is just starting up. I decided to post this early anyway in case someone has a favourite track they'd like to call dibs on. And I can of course keep posting on how the project is progressing if someone is interesting in hearing about it. Cheers! Progress: black = open red = claimed, not started blue = work in progress green = WIP, almost there bold green = done! (mp3) 01. Fire (scene 1) -- PsyNES (remix here) (mp3) 02. Streets of New York (scene 2) -- Tuberz McGee (mp3) 03. Sewers (scene 2) (mp3) 04. Winter's Here (scene 3) -- Begoma (mp3) 05. Parking Lot (scene 3, same as scene 5) (mp3) 06. Shredder Twins (scene 7) -- Alek Száhala (mp3) 12. Boss -- Byproduct (mp3) 13. Credits I took the track names from the NSFE file available at slickproductions.org. Note however that names of tracks 06 and 07 differ from the .nsfe file, which was probably messed up by that one track being used twice in the game. "Skate On" should obviously be the skateboarding level. There are mp3 links before each track name to clear out any confusion.
  24. Great idea for a project! Too bad I didn't find it earlier, now all the tracks are already taken. Can't wait to hear what you guys do with the tracks, I just found The Dark Side of Phobos and it's pretty nice
