  1. People are right to bash it. It was mastered and arranged poorly, so it got the beatdown it deserved. I have submitted to OLR, as is my normal process with pieces I feel are more of a travesty than a good thing.

The funny thing is that more people voted in this compo than others where I've had much better entries. Hopefully this trend continues.

Also, pretty much anyone can remix better than that. If I'm willing to put out that piece of crud as an entry, you (followers of PRC) shouldn't be afraid to do the same :). It is, truthfully, all about the fun of competition regardless of whether you win or not.

ToN: make that source tune kick copious amounts of ass.

  2. Well, it's pretty much a reimagining in style with not a lot of rearrangement, but I do like the latin flair that Mr. Pollard puts into the piece. There are some things that could easily be dropped from this, most notably the somewhat annoying 'record static'. I really like the more subdued percussion element.

The horns, while weak, are serviceable enough and will most likely be everyone's biggest gripe about the piece.

  3. Three of the biggest orchestral game soundtracks to come out of North America in the past 20 years: Outcast, Total Annihilation, and Heart of Darkness. None of these were the most popular of games, but they each had scores that even went beyond the scope of film music and probably could have ushered in the orchestral trend earlier if they had been more popular. There was nothing gimmicky about the use of an orchestra either as they all had great, drawn-out thematic material that would have sounded fine on an SB16 synth.

The Dig also seems to be falling into obscurity. I consider these four scores landmarks of game music.

Total Annihilation is one of the most overlooked masterpieces of this era. I really love The Dig's music. Pretty much everything done by Peter McConnell and Michael Land is worth listening to.

Rock'N Roll Racing, Captain Tsubasa and Pop'n Twinbee are also relatively below the radar.

We're Back! is not really a full soundtrack, but what little is there is catchy.

  4. Hang on - djp is against remixing competitions? Why is that? Aplologies I have the wrong the end of the stick.

What Rexy is trying to say is that a lot of people feel that DJP has shoehorned these competitions into a less important place in the community (I.E. not being able to bump the compo to the main page), not that he actually is 'anti-competition'.

  5. Big Giant Circles would definitely be a Cheerios clone.

zyKo would be some sort of bannana flavored cereal with lots of potassium.

CHz sounds like it would be packed with bran and healthiness.
