  1. I don't really think I'm capable of applying any other adjectives to your work

hey man, that's what english majors are for. :D

also, in case anybody here has heard of Deadmau5 and his track Ghosts n' Stuff (cough)

I put together a mix today in homage of his huge influence on myself and a lotta other producers...

I give you: Lawsuits 'n' Stuff

    http://soundcloud.com/prototyperaptor/lawsuits-n-stuff

enjoy, and have fun figuring out all the things I straight up stole from the original. I feel like John Williams.

  2. Today is the fateful day that I finally unleash what's been brewing over here...

    2rhsbxv.jpg

    (It's clickable! wow!)

Lots of fun glitchy bass and drops all around. If you enjoyed Penultimate or any of my more houseish remixes on this site, this will be right up your alley.

Soon to come: a dubstep remix

Questions, comments, concerns... hate mail... all are welcome here.

    happy listening

    -PR

  3. hey, nice work! this is pretty chill... great driving music.

Here's what I noticed on a few listens:

-it needs some work to make it "feel" less repetitive - you need a few more sections to mess around with during the song.

4 more chords would do this song wonders.

-there's a loop at 2:35 or something that seems... off.

Maybe it's the kick doing that slight stutter that causes it.

-At the halftime section, you definitely need a longer snare sound or some heavy reverb.

-you should disguise your filler loops a bit better, imo. like at the end - just some brief changes on a FEW upbeats would make all the difference.

-overall, the balance is skewed too much to the highs, I think.

I would definitely reduce the volume of the bass to make it more felt than heard, and bring up the kick to compensate.

-I'm not sure it's the right kick for the job, either - something with more subs and less mid would make the track even more chillout. (if that's what you're going for)

good stuff here, can't wait to hear the finished thing!

  4. listen to Wolfgang Gartner.

Do what this man says. :D

Anyway, I do use other tracks for mixing/mastering purposes. I've done some pretty in-depth studies of deadmau5's ghosts n stuff, justice's genesis, big name mixes like that.

Mainly it's to get a sense of what is wrong with my room, as my acoustics are not anywhere near where they should be...

but it also really helps train your ears to see stuff like a 3db drop at 90hz and a boost at 100hz and then figure out WHY that was necessary for the mix to work.

  5. What I do when I want to write something as quickly as possible is to write 16 bars or so of melody by hand on staff paper...

staff paper + piano has made me a better musician than years of practice has...

but seriously, there is something absolutely humbling about sitting in a room with only yourself, some manuscript, and a piano, and writing down what's in your head as you hear it, not as whatever midi/vst you own can play it.

it really helps you think in abstract ways that you wouldn't with your primary instrument/computer in hand.

(yes, I do all composition sketches like this - even electronic music. dubstep = lots of squiggly lines)

  6. So...this is something completely different.

If you're expecting electronica - don't be hating on my swagga

King Dedede is a pimp. We all know it, he knows it, kirby knows it.

So, this is an appropriately crunk remix of his everpresent theme. It's NSFW.

yeah... it's inspired by various artists from the radio.

    did I mention it's NSFW???

update: I forgot to enable the bass in the first render...wow...

    (source:

    )

    lyrics:

    King D:

    hey (yo)

this is king d (he's the king)

    with easy style

    number 1 (it's so easy)

    the boss of the castle

    comin' down (he's the boss)

    alright

    here we go:

I'm DE DE DE an' they all are CAPITAL

cruise control is caps lock; it's not accidental (f sharp?)

and don't even start, baby you're so argumental (fuck you)

I'll show you my force; with my hammer it's centripetal

Open up the doors, I'll let you right in (to the kitchen)

the final boss lies somewhere within (oh I see)

you think you can find him an' you think you can win? (probably not)

I'm on the top of my game (like football?) an' you're a has-bin (YOUUU)

you think that I'm a penguin yeah well I think that you're gay (fabulous!)

you're pink after all and no straight lives that way (you like men)

a ball of fluff that thinks that he's tough but

at the end of the day you just like it rough (come here! ahh uhh)

so if you're pink, get the fuck out of town (x3)

so if you're pink, get the fuck out of my town

do I really have to spell it out for you?

I guess so, let met break it down you

    King D (crunk'd):

    I don't take no shit,

I get this mic and spit it

    my words they get it

so much better than you ever shit it

    so when I get done

    come on and hit it

    if you got the courage

    to come and get sitted

cause I'm the original and still the best

so many dreams they find they conquest

like the old world to the brave and new

    imperialism is gonna find you

cause no where is safe from me

my ships scatter; eyes in the seven seas

I've so many enemies they find they got wrecked

I'm Cortez and you da Aztecs

so if you're pink get the fuck out of town (x3)

so if you're pink get the fuck out of my town

what do you have to say for yourself

    you pink motherfucker

    K-Pain:

    hey now

    you are having some

    hate now

cause do you really think it's easy being colored?

drinking from they special water fountains

watching you drank them dream fountains

I'd love for some apple bottom jeans

I'd love for some equal opportunities

I'd love for some singing abilities

but that's why you hate me shawtee

    King D:

hey now, your plight has really moved me

I feel bad enough to break my bad guy continuity (hey, a triplet)

    so get yo friends (friends?)

I'll bring my friends (you don't have any friends)

we'll make amends (nobody loves you)

and drink until she sins (unless she's not hot)

    K-Pain:

    hey, hey, really?

    that, that sounds awesome

    King D:

    ...not a chance

so if you're pink get the fuck out of town (x3)

so if you're pink get the fuck out of my town

so if you're pink get the fuck out of town (x3)

so if you're pink get the fuck out of my town

(K-Pain: I hate you... De de de)

    yeah

    so now you know

if you pink, or red, or whatever

the fuck else you transformed into

    you best be getting out

while the getting out is good

    you best be getting out

    of King D's neighborhood

    ...it's so easy

  7. so... does nobody else see how this is actually a brilliant plan by the man to make us do the one thing rock bands have never done... practice?

"just 30 more hours of keeping time straight and I'll get that new unlockable"

"wanna come chill?" "no, man, I gotta go work on that killer solo in Bohemian Rhapsody so I can get 50 gamerpoints"

harmonix's master plan is to create a world of perfect cover bands.

on the plus side, I can't wait to see how horns/strings are integrated

  8. I would highly recommend brushing up on some actual orchestral music too as well as Zimmer and co...

While tutti is a fun approach, there's a lot more to the orchestra as an instrument than just loud eighth notes!

(not that I don't enjoy that from time to time... :))

Some composers of super importance to that film music style that are also, well, "concert ready:"

-Dvorak - tuneful, tuneful, tuneful. how to write melodies? go here.

-Wagner/Bruckner (moreso Bruckner for film...'Batman' is stolen directly from him. also he's pretty much Zimmer's new style; TDK onward)

-Strauss (NOT Johann II) - super inventive orchestration

-Bartok - embellishing catchy melodies in strange ways

-Korngold - pretty much invented the action score

-Debussy/Erik Satie - that sad piano that emotional scenes get? yeah, about that...

All of these guys have something extremely valuable to say, and studying or just listening to their music will be highly worthwhile...moreso than straight "film music."

A wise professor once told me that film music serves another master, while concert music does not... think of it as kind of "watered down" compared to a full scale Bruckner symphony.

While the Bruckner would be out of place in most films, the ideas it has can be distilled and used in a less distracting way.

You can never get 'too' good at composing as such that you can't dumb your writing down... but you can't fake true skill!

...something that I and most people are still constantly working on.

  9. I speak in the Queen's English. I'm loosing respect for this community

I guess we should tighten ourselves up then, lest our evils undo our imperialist status.

    sorry, I couldn't resist...

Anyway I like vulgar rap because I hate rap, and hearing swear words screamed at me ala lil' jon makes me laugh and realize just how much I hate it as a genre in the first place.

Also, I really liked the everclear mix in a "music of my groin" type of way - it's good to have a not so serious track every now and then. Music is supposed to be "fun," after all...

  10. alright, here's what I think: :nicework:

totally sick, mate. a great first showing!

however, there are some production things that could use some tweaking.

mainly: some of your epic wobbles have too much lo-end boost, and they tend to clip in a bad way. (mainly the sample that trades off with the main bass at 1:38ish)

the stereo field on the drums seems to be pretty wide, I would add in some mono hits to solidify where the tempo is.

the drums in general could be stronger/harder, imo.

compositionally, this is pretty solid. Some more drum sequencing would benefit the track, and I'd love to hear a stronger kick for sure... but the actual riffs are pretty awesome and quite varied - good job avoiding that pitfall!

now I want to hear you do some supa nasty stuff...
