  1. My quick mix.

Used Slate on the kick and snare, put a high pass on the overhead, comp'd the hell out of the vocals and EQ'd pretty aggressively. Re-amped the DI guitar tracks and compressed and EQ'd the bass track. Also, didn't use the double vocal. I just feel like it didn't really fit the track too well.

wish I had slate... sounds fantastic! :nicework:

here's my quick pass, using all provided samples, including drums.

  2. While we're at it, let's look at this song.

I'd just like to point out that daft punk is one of the worst possible examples of sample manipulation I can think of, right up there with Kayne and co...

They are great examples, though, of the kind of thing you feel guilty about: basically just pitch shifting someone's track wholesale and adding a drum beat.

If you are going to use samples as an "instrument" which is the type of creative endeavor I think you are referring to, do something like this:

Also be careful of legal repercussions... sampling is definitely a grey area.

also, I write music on an original daw with a custom rig which uses a ternary system of my own invention.

I also use hardware synths made entirely of scraps of old IBM machines and Russian vacuum tubes for which I programmed the communication interface in an entirely new assembly language that I wrote down on a napkin while eating chicken waffles at Grandy's.

    it sounds so analog

  3. Well I have 3GB, and all I really need are a couple of string articulations, brass, and maybe 1 or two woodwinds, xD. I don't compose full-classical, I compose orchestrated heavy metal.

for epic tutti orchestral sounds like what you describe, project sam Symphobia 1/2 are exactly what you are looking for minus the size requirements.

you can't do something convincing like that with most orchestral libraries, sorry, not even east west sounds good at that type of thing

basically orchestral mockups suck cause you either do them very well or they sound terrible. there's really no in-between

    Hey everybody,

I've just released a new single for pay what you want, cause you guys are awesome.

(and most of my other new tracks are bogged down in the label process.)

    Cityscapes and Tesla Coils:

It's an orchestral-electro track, sorta like skrillex meets movie scores.

Feel free to leave comments, bash it, profess love...

    Or just listen

  5. Noisia is one of my favorite bands, period.

They've done all sorts of electronic genres, from DnB to house - but their DnB is extra ridiculous:

Also, Dieselboy is a standard, very "generic-dnb" sound. You've probably heard his stuff as background music:

as far as dnb remixes go, there is mine... but it's nowhere near Noisia/Pendulum levels.

zircon is awesome too, check out all of his mixes, most of them have some of that crystal method breakbeat/dnb style

  6. I'm late to the party on this mix, but I have to say, epic orchestral introduction + beatz is right up my alley...

And this doesn't disappoint. Very good stuff!

I'm going to nitpick, though, rather than just say how awesome it is, which is true.

-The main snare sample is off. It's either too long or pitched too high, or some combination of the two. An easy fix, cause it's the perfect sound other than that.

-The kick also lacks some thump, try adding a slight hump at 90hz.

-Where's the bass? I hear the subbass, but I keep waiting for a really nasty reese at some point

Also, the vocals don't sound right because they are sitting very hot in the mix and have lots of mid-lo frequencies - try dipping 400hz and see if that doesn't clear it up.
