  1. This might be a bit tangential, but one of the things that I found to be the most helpful to drawing readers was guest blogging. Find some people who are already successful in the industry you are trying to write for and then pitch articles to them. It helps them because it gives them a different POV, and you will definitely draw readers.

Speaking from experience, building a platform from scratch is really, really hard, so it helps to "stand on the shoulders of giants" if you can.

EDIT: The other small bits I can offer are: Tag your posts appropriately and write regularly (once a week if you can). The more content on the blog, the better your search engine results (and the more loyal your readers will be).

    Best of luck!

Thanks for your advice! All very solid.

Where did you host your blog? It sounds like you have started one of your own in the past.

  2. This is something I've been thinking about for awhile but I think I really want to move forward in actually doing it. Who here has experience with blogging, has a particular client to recommend, or other miscellaneous advice?

My basic topic will be marketing and advertising in videogames, with company analysis, campaign case studies and who does it right/who doesn't.

There's a lot of smart people on this site, so I'm interested to see what experience people here have.

EDIT: To explain further, I am currently a marketer at a small B2B company, so the scholastic tenets of blogging I understand pretty well. I am particularly interested in the nuts and bolts, where should I host it/how have you in the past established a blog of your own/maybe some of you have gaming blogs. But of course all advice is awesome!

  3. OK hmmm must have accidentally unsubbed from my own thread... didnt think it would be popular :P

Seems that smash 4 is on erry'bodys list. Hellllls yeah I'm excited for that, but still, I'll always be a melee fan at heart, more so on the competitive level. A few of my friends recently picked up the Project M mod for Brawl on their Wii. I have yet to try it but I have also been looking forward to that! From what I've seen / heard it's a pretty fun mod and comes very close to the melee feel, but still, melee is where it's at for me.

Back on topic of new games, Hearthstone is something I've been watching a lot of. I don't think it's released yet though??

Hearthstone is in beta, but they are eventually going to give everyone who opts in on battle.net a key (they said so) so it's worth signing up. I have been playing it for a bit now and it is very fun.

  4. i love this game

as an aside, i was kind of put off that nintendo had no problem just spoiling the fact there was a secret character in the game before it even came out. that's a busch league move and i hope they don't continue to do things like that

  5. From what I've found so far on my game:

    Arek is Grass

    Dhsu is Psychic

    Doulifée is Fire

Dusk is Dragon (With Gabite, Dragonair and Druddigon)

    jmr is Water

    unstablehamster is Ghost

    wildfire is Rock

    ocre is Grass

    bleck is WaterMalakhim is Water

    Species is Fairy

    chthonic is Flying

But with the exception of Dusk, everyone only has t2o pokémon, which seems to indicate they haven't beat the Elite 4 yet. Maybe they need to be updated? But I've had wifi going most of the time, so they should all be up-to-date by now.

you can only get the third pokemon the first time if they are online at the same time you are.

  6. i liked the documentary overall. lots of great footage from the early days of the scene, and the narrative they put together is pretty compelling. it's unfortunate that it's so U.S.-centric, sidelining Armada almost entirely, but i suppose that's to be expected. also that random segment defending the smash community's insistence that their brand of misogyny and homophobia is just super cute was off-putting.

but it seems like the documentary has had the effect of breathing some life into smaller local scenes which is great !

honestly armada has been to like what, 5 US tournaments? what is his backstory? he's really good and came from overseas. like, that's it. he's a nice guy and obviously very good but there's no real story to tell there.

and i would hardly call that a defense. more like a 'we know it sucks but, we do it still. sorry bout that'

  7. the melee characters that were good like fox/falco/captain falcon etc. feel exactly the same as in melee now. i confirmed this when i switched to the melee falco skin and every thing felt and looked literally exactly the same. a ton of people have alternate costumes now.

the new challengers are a lot of fun too. i'm really having fun learning how to keep track of pikmin with olimar.

  8. yeah well good thing you don't need sleep attacks at all

they weren't even in the japanese version

if you want to ruin your experience by rolling through the game with free super attacks that you can get by being in sleep anyways (which you already should be, because you need to streetpass with people to get a lot of upgrades) then be my guest

otherwise there's nothing to see here
