  1. if a casual listener just wants to give a 1-10 rating based on their preference and nothing else, they should be able to do that with a simple click of their mouse

that is actually *exactly* what you said don't talk down to me like it wasn't

the point of this thread is to find a way to improve the workshop forum to be more accessible to commentary and possibly provide an incentive for doing something

  2. That's exactly what I was thinking, which is why I suggest having maybe two different rating systems, but keep them separate. Maybe I was unclear. I think people who want a more involved rating system to get feedback about the technical quality of their product should have that option. But if a casual listener just wants to give a 1-10 rating based on their preference and nothing else, they should be able to do that with a simple click of their mouse.

    why?

a 1-10 rating doesn't say anything to the artist about what was good or what was bad. it is completely unhelpful to someone trying to improve a song. it has no redeeming outcome.

  3. I'm not crazy about XP per se (it encourages thoughtless responses), but there are alternatives. Something like Karma, or even the ability to upvote reviews or other non-music content. It would be cool if you could get recognition as a helpful/entertaining critic of WIPs.

this is exactly what we're saying here

no one said 'get xp for posting mindless responses with no value'

obviously no one thinks that's a good idea

  4. It is outdated though! It's technology that should have stayed in the 90s. It's almost like using an AOL Instant Messenger chatroom. But I suppose the options for chatrooms are limited these days. And a site-wide chat system would be utter chaos with all the random visitors typing in who knows what.

I personally yearn for the day of OCR Blogs, when "chat room antics" are replaced with personal updates and responses to said updates. It'd be more focused, sure.

Maybe even twitter integration in a more involved way, since they broke Twitter... dunno

    OCRBook?

  5. Pretzel - if this system goes into action sometime down the line and requires moderation I'd be happy to chip in. Get at me!

I think it's a great idea that will inspire people to get involved in the musical aspect of this site at all levels, especially if there is an aspect of EXP or recognition for positive contribution. Older artists would help the newbies, people who just listen can give opinions and contribute in a qualitative way, and everyone learns more.

@Mirby - not a lot of people coming up use IRC anymore. Not to say that it's outdated, but probably not going to be as effective as a forum feedback system if you ask me.

  6. once, when I was young and stupid, I traded in my copies of Legend of Mana and SaGa Frontier along with my PS1 and eight other games to get $100 off a new PS2

that was the last time I traded in a game

i did that with my entire n64 collection

easily my biggest regret in life

  7. Nintendo isnt doomed, not by a long shot. I am saying that buying a Nintendo non-handheld system for third party games is sheer lunacy.

Since Nintendo doesn't like others in their sandbox.

other people don't like being in nintendo's sandbox

    because they get bodied

  8. no i do get it but if you have the ability to stun people at long range and kill them, they have to respect it. you have to catch someone out, or stand back while your team gets engaged on and catch someone with the stun that you want to kill. you have to stand wayyyy out of your range for the majority of fights. but for the most part, i've found that two or three out of 5 people on the enemy team is 0-deathable, or very close to it, if you've played well and have farmed up enough. one of them will be within your range while you're still safe during a teamfight, and if you can instantly kill them and do damage to other people as well, you're doing a pretty big thing for your team. on top of that, the aoe stun can be used to box people in for other aoe things, like an amumu ultimate, galio, leona, whatever.

being able to kill people is powerful but not as powerful as the tools he has surrounding his kit that allow him to do so, while setting up the rest of your team.

veigar is not god tier but if the other team has to fear him (which often happens if you can farm well) he punishes bad initiates and poor positioning as hard as anyone.

  9. someone's going to have to explain why veigar doesn't work anymore to me because i think i have something like 4 losses with him in the past year and a half

nobody buys MR as a stat, all ap carries build full ap (with a couple minor exceptions) and nobody, not even ad carries, bring cleanse.

why does veigar not do damage anymore despite having some of the best ratios and base values in the game, and a 2 second aoe stun? i must be missing something.
