  1. I will be at MAG, celebrations will be had. But it sounds like the drinks of people not able to make it are starting to pile up.
  2. Loved the arrangement. There's some beautiful passages in here, and great dynamic shifts (though the one at 3:40-ish was a little medley like). I don't think there's much to pick at on the arrangement end at all. Production is up and down. You have parts that don't work, like the competing guitar lines and the exposed piano, and then stuff like the backing guitars and organ which are really solid. Drum sequencing is nicely done in some places and fake-sounding at others. This kind of sums it up for me: Take that to heart, and try to tighten up the sections that aren't as strong. This is very close to passing. NO (resubmit)
  3. Intro took a while to get going without a lot of development. Once the pad came in it started gelling, but you could speed the process up. Outro had the same problem to a lesser extent. Levels are way too loud - might need to take off the compression and try to rebalance and use EQ. The quality is pretty degraded because of the compression. Arrangement had some wonderful ideas. Great violin throughout, I liked what it was doing with the main melody and the little flourishes as background - again, the only issue is finding a place for it to sit in the soundscape. I wasn't as excited by the synth work, which was not as complex sound-wise, though the 3:48 section was really nice. I think you've got an excellent start here, but with some major production problems. Take another look given what we've said and please send it back to us! NO (resubmit)
  4. Thanks!! I used the strings that came with Kontakt, layering the violin, viola, and cello patches I think.

  5. I think this is a great start to a remix. Digging the dancey vibe and the way the original has been transformed. The production leaves something to be desired though. Bass is super heavy, way more than it should be. The wubs are also a little cookie-cutter and sound consistent throughout. Think it needs to go the extra mile to get my vote. NO (resubmit)
  6. Good evening judges! It's a me, Mykah! Back with another track for your appraisal. And seeing as I had fond memories of playing Dune 2 on the Mega Drive, I felt it my duty to help get some Dune 2 remixes on OCR! The original tune used lots of FM synthesis and square waves so I wanted to capture the essence of that whilst creating a more full on dance floor style remix. I also happened across some machine gun noises in one of my sample packs and thought that would fit the battle theme perfectly. The name of the track comes from one of the most famous quotes from the Dune series: "He Who Controls Arrakis, Controls the Spice. He Who Controls the Spice, Controls the Universe" I made this remix using FL Studio, Native Instruments Massive and Native Instruments FM8. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed remixing it!
  7. Game: Dark Cloud 2 Source: Starlight Temple title: A Starlit Temple for Two Live instruments: Guitar, Bass, Mandolin, Flute, Tin Whistle, Recorder, Keyboard For Paragon I made this for the February 2013 DoD "Paragon Month" and it got 2nd place. It's an all-acoustic mix with live mandolin, flute, and tin whistle along with the usual live stuff. I did some things in the intro with reverb and echo that was really experimental and fun. A lot of feedback and flooding, sudden cutoff, etc. I chose to remix Dark Cloud 2 because of my memories of the game from when I was younger. I got up to the very final dungeon and never finished it, but the journey there was great. I was actually on a ridiculously long Skype call with a friend while working on this song. It's the only time I did that. I was playing along on acoustic guitar to what I had so far, and when I got to 2:57 the arrangement ended and I spontaneously started playing some ridiculous "heavy acoustic" riff. It was so random and heavy that it made me laugh, but I ended up reproducing the riff exactly as it was for the actual song, and it sounds awesome. The social aspect definitely contributed to that part of the song. I don't think it sounds silly or random for the final song, and wouldn't have had it go any other way. Been listening to this remix for months and months now, and it's one of my favorites that I still listen to pretty often. I hope you enjoy it!

Name of individual song(s) arranged: Matoya's Cave Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc.: Life has not been too good for me for the last 2 years in terms of remixing, alot of system problems mixed with new job and other real life madness and obligations made it hard to get anything worthwhile done except recording a fun piece or two. Anyways, here is my latest mix which I would like to share with everyone one of you. There is not much to be said about the music of Final Fantasy that has not been said already. That most tracks are masterpieces from Nobuo's genuis as a composer is no big secret. What catches me most with Matoya's cave is the upbeat chord progression and a melody line that - although pretty short in itself - is interesting enough to loop it over and over again. In this mix I tried to give it a rock theme, as this is practically the only kind of music I am capable of. It is pretty short though and the main arrangement is very conservative to the original. Despite this I am happy how it turned out and I hope that it meets OCR standards - if not I will gladly take constructive critism to improve. Rock on and prosper, -Luhny ------------------------------------------------------- Not sure I think this is too conservative necessarily, but it's a bit short and moreover, the production isn't quite at the level I'd like to see. The intro has some recording bleed, while the drum kit sounds a little weak. The guitars are dry compared to the rest of the instrumentation, it never quite melds together for me. I don't think the short arrangement or production is a big enough problem individually, but together this feels like it needs a little more. NO (resubmit)
  9. Remixer name: Bluelighter Real name: Guillaume SAUMANDE Mail: ID forum: 30998 Game & Songs: Final Fantasy VII & Mining Town Interpreter: Guillaume SAUMANDE (piano) Composer: Nobuo UEMATSU Link: Mining town is really my favorite track from the game. In this very simple piece, N. Uematsu has known putting a lot of emotion. So, I've made a piano version of this. Globally, I tried to keep purity of original piece. Beginning and ending are very peaceable; 2nd part (50’’) has a more accentuated rhythm and brings a darker section (1’23). The melody is then played lower with a rhythm in 5/8, more stressful. The song finished quietly by the second melodic line of the original. Enjoy -------------------------------------------------------- Really like the arrangement - lots of variety in playing, great dynamics - but the production is killing this. The piano sound is so narrow and muddy. The 2:00 section in particular just sounds... bad. With a better sound, this is probably passable, though there are some slight problems where you speed up too much. Try focusing on those problems areas and get forum help for a better piano sound if you need it. NO (resubmit)

I noticed something strange about my current accepted submissions, so far - while all are well produced, solid tracks, I feel like this site hasn't hosted one of my more traditional styles (for me, anyway) - a fast paced 9-bit blast-fest with solos, crazy leads and some hardcore chiptune wankery. So here you go, one of the best remixes of this type that I have to offer (as of the time of typing this). This was the first round submission to the Grand Maverick Remix Battle of 2012, and what a dousy it was. By a strange twist of fate, the competitor that I matched up with in the final of the Sonic compo (and lost to, as well) was pitted against me for an odd sort of rematch. Naturally, I gave it my all, and this was the result - I'm pretty damn happy with the resulting track. Gotta love the spirit of competition. I hope you all agree that it brings out the best in me. ------------------------------ - "Slash Beast" - "Blaze Heatnix"

Información de Contacto fervizcaino Fernando Vizcaino http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=29041 Información sobre el material enviado Yoshi's Story Yoshi's Road Home (Ending Theme) Kazumi Totaka Nintendo 64 ----------------------------------------------------------- The second half of the arrangement kicks things into gear in a much needed way, but I dunno if it's enough to make up for the conservative first half. The piano solo ending was also a little weak due to overall mediocre instrument quality throughout. I love the guitar sections and some of the ideas, but I would have liked to see that creativity across the track NO (resubmit)
  12. Composed by Masato Nakamura Remixer Name: Deandre Pope Real Name: Deandre Pope I just go by my real name -------------------------------------------------------------- Lots of ideas in this Joshua Morse-esque smooth house mix. New chords, funky bassline, and a few new sections. There's a bit of repetition and the sax sample isn't the best, but I was digging what was going on. Call it groove bias, but yeah I think I can pass it. YES Edit: After listening to this one a few more times and reading the other votes, I think I have to agree that the repetition becomes a little much. I really dig the groove you've got going and with some minor change-ups here and there, I'd have no problem switching back to a YES. Hope you make those changes! NO (resubmit)

  14. hey guys now new uploaded ----------------------------------------------------------- Hard to fault the production (maybe a little bassy), but this melody gets run into the ground. Try as Mellowsonic might, there's not enough variation here to keep that melody interesting for five and a half minutes. Nice production overall though, lots of elements going on and good dynamics. NO (resubmit)
  15. More in depth breakdown from Mike, because I had trouble sorting this out: Leaning towards NO. There are elements I can match against the original, like the Terran melody, but many of them are changed too much to be recognizable. Interested to get more opinions before making a final vote.

This was my entry into the sixth round of the FL Studio Remix Gauntlet, hosted by Jason Covenant. I’m very, very pleased with this one, mostly because of what I managed to squeeze out of the most basic of tools in FL. Anyone who’s used FL Studio knows that the 3xOsc doesn’t make for the single best synth ever, but everything you hear in here is either 3xOsc or an occasional Autogun patch. The drums are all stock sounds, and all the plugins were ones that are included with the base versions of FL. If anyone’s interested in seeing how I did all this, the FLP is here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/39664725/Hotlink/Bass%20Invasion%20%28Starcraft%29.flp Source breakdown: start – 0:50 or so is all the Zerg Theme. Between 0:50 – 1:20 or so is an intermixing of Zerg, Protoss, and maybe a little bit of Terran, I can’t remember. 1:20 – 1:44 is all Zerg, and then from 1:44 – 2:04 some Zerg and Terran theme bits play off of each other. From 2:12 – 2:35 it’s back to Zerg-only again, and then possibly the most recognizable bit of theme comes in at 2:35 and plays ‘til about 3:00. From then on it’s Zerg and Protoss with a bit of Terran on occasion, recycled from other parts of the song. As a technical achievement, I’m proud of this song and think it’s worth sharing, and hopefully there’s enough source in here to pass muster. Defend your territory against the Bass Invasion! 17. Name: Mitch Janzen 20211 Game: Super Paper Mario. Name: 100 Sammer Guy Salute Songs: Sammer Guy's Kingdom Link: I always loved the mysteriousness of Mr. L from the Super Paper Mario game. Everyone knew who it really was the whole time, but still, it gave Luigi some much deserved attention. Not many people know that Mr. L was the one who destroyed Sammer Guy's Kingdom, but before that ever happened, the Sammer's had a tradition. This ancient tradition was a 100-Man battle, attempted by many, failed by more, and the final man to make it almost a quarter way through this tradition was none other than Mario. The main inspiration was the mysteriousness of this world. Somehow, they knew the world would eventually be destroyed, yet, they all continued life during the hard times before the world was destroyed, as if nothing was wrong. Mr. L failed his mission of fear. This 100 Sammer Guy Salute is the upbeat to remember those who were lost in the destroying of Sammer Guy's Kingdom. This was their song.
  18. I'll pretty much just echo what Justin said. The piano is gorgeous, and since that's the basis of the arrangement, that's a great start. The woodwind is the weakest element here but because it's mostly used as a background element, it's not a dealbreaker or anything. Try to make even those little details as strong as the main elements next time. YES
  19. This is my first time hearing this, so I can't compare it to previous versions. Love the intro, it takes a lot of skill to make such a subtle build that smooth. Even though the song proper doesn't kick in till 1:45, it never lacks direction - you can tell that it is building towards something. I was expecting something fuller at that point, but the sparse shuffling beats were an interesting twist. As I kept listening, it grew on me and when the piano came back in, it really clicked. Hard to believe this is a fourth resub, because this is an easy YES. A beautiful, confident song with some risks taken. YES
  20. Yeah the real drums have this ugly boxy sound which makes it sound crowded but still don't really fill out the track. I also agree with the criticisms that this never reaches the energy levels it could, again partly due to those drums. More development needed, but good textures and a good start. NO (resubmit)
  21. Yeah not OMG yes either, but this was well put-together. Lots of cool moments going on to keep me interested, a good genre choice for the source material. I did hear some repetition, but I never thought it was too noticeable. Would have been nice to hear this go the extra mile but what's here works. YES
  22. I'm just gonna play yes man on this one and copy what's been said (or no man, as it were). The distortion was a little too high throughout and sounded more like sloppy mixing than edgy effect, though the ending worked. I also have to second the concerns about the pacing, especially the middle sections. That build was a little too drawn out to maintain interest. Not feelin' this one as is, but definitely promising. NO (resubmit)
  23. We don't have an official place to list things like that yet (we only list composers of games that have remixes on the site), but feel free to add it to your signature.

  24. You should have received an automated email confirming your submission - may need to check your spam folder if you didn't receive it. But I have double-checked and we have received your submission. Our judging process is a bit backed up so it will be several months before we get to it, but we will get to it!
