  1. Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is AWESOME.

But you CANNOT play it without a good knowledge of Japanese. Way too much depends on the text to wing it. It's a good thing I have a fluent friend I can spend weekends with.

Yeah, I'm like under 10 minutes into it and I'm already stuck.

Any idea how to get past that broken bridge thingy? I don't even have a damn sword yet...

  2. Mr. Wizard was some of my earliest memories of Nikelodeon (that and Pinwheel). Some features I remember off the top of my head are how it's possible to swallow even upside-down and how to use the Apple Logo drawing program ("turtle," anyone?).

I blame him for my fear of tornadoes as a kid though, thanks to a minute-long feature he once had. I grew up in central PA; he negated to mention that they're largely a midwestern thing ;-)

Edit: Anyone know what he was doing in his later years?

  3. Okay, I've been holding off on this thread since I'm still unemployed and still enjoying my freedom a little more than I should :-P. But for convenience I'll lay down my plans now:

Unless I later say otherwise, I'll edit this post if I do, I'll be driving from Pittsburgh probably Friday morning and staying through Sunday afternoon/evening.

I'm definitely up for driving people and doing whatever. I'll be only going to Friday's concert and I'll be staying with a friend in Arlington, pending her final approval.

As with the Baltimore Meet I'll bring my NES and StepMania with pads to be used or not.

And, the verdict seems to be YES to the OCR shirts.

    fixed. :pretzel:

  4. OK, don't know what I did exactly but after messing around with the settings IRCDS is working now.

Thanks for all your help anyway :-D

In other news, the American version of Opera's Nintnedo DS Browser is supposed to be coming out tomorrow. Is anyone going to be getting it--or does anybody care? Me: I've been using a patched European version when it's been useful...

  5. Wow, interesting.

See, gotta pay attention to all that supposedly-cheap, extraneous crap. ;-)

But still, my 2 cents on the finale:

    1) What I want to know about the flash-forward is why is Kate free? Wasn't she--and still is--a wanted fugitive?

Not that I don't want her to be, she's one of my favorites, but I always imagined her as being the only character that can't go back and the implications of that...

    2) Was Jack called a "hero" in the pharmacy because he saved that child? Wouldn't everyone have also recognized him from surviving the plane crash and whatnot? Their rescue couldn't have gone without media coverage...

    3) Did anybody else notice, at the very end of the scene at the radio tower, Locke walking behind the radio tower as Kate (I think) looks on? What's he gonna do...

Finally, the idea of having flash-forwards from now is is a cool one. Is approximately the halfway point of the show, chronologically speaking. It'll be its own epilogue!

I liked how Walt grew at least 6 inches since his last appearance.

He's a child actor. Give him and the producers a break. :-)

    Edit: cleaner

  6. IRCDS works great. I just gave it a shot and connected to #ocremix on the first try. I have the M3 Simply, btw, and I'm lovin' it.
I know the server is irc.enterthegame.com, but is the port the default of 6667?

    I always get:

    (Re)connecting...

    Connecting to : irc.enterthegame.com/ (6667)

    Could not resolve hostname

Edit: I managed to connect using the IRC feature of DSOrganize, but help would still be appreciated. Thanks.

  7. Actually, manufactured songs have been a staple of the US music industry since it began. Ever heard of tin pan alley? Dozens, hundreds of composers literally PUMPING out songs on a daliy basis for sale. This was at the turn of the 20th century. Of course, we actually got some of our greatest songs ever through this - but we also got a lot of crap. Then we had manufactured "teen idols" within a few decades. Sound familiar? How about Motown, which was nicknamed the 'hit factory'? Not to mention songwriters and duos that wrote hundreds upon hundreds of tracks for mass sale and consumption, such as Diane Warren, Gerry Goffin, and Carole King.

No, there are really no new or notable trends in pop music today. It's just history repeating itself, with the added twist of more people being able to write, produce, and release music thanks to cheaper gear, faster computers, and the internet. If anything, the music scene is better than it ever has been before.

OMG ZIRCON DEFNDS POP MUSIK. I HATE ZIRCON NOW!!

But anyway, I'm no big fan or Mowtown or Tin Pan Alley for the same reasons. My oldies station bores me with the same song structures, whereas the pop station simply pisses me off in a people-actually-like-this? sort of way. I guess like pop music today, there's a few quality gems and the other 90% is crap. :\

Also, I think we need a clarification between disliking a band because they become popular and disliking a band due to a stylistic/musical shift that may come with it. AFI or Metallica might be an example of this.

  8. So are we going to have a BBQ the day after? And a game of ultimate? I don't really know DC that well other than some of the typical tourist attractions, so anyone want to come up with suggestions?

Hell, I'd be up for ultimate! :-D

Right there on the mall! ...Or wherever.

Edit: And also, will there be the traditional console-gaming session at some point? What kind of a setup does DJP have?

  9. Bump...it's heading down to the deadline people! Better grab your seats fast!

    Allright, allright; I'm in!

    ...Tentavely.

See, I was let go from my job at the end of last month and am still engaged in the Great Job Hunt 2.0. I'm still based in Pittsburgh currently and could definitely make it down there but who knows where I'll be at the end of June or what I'll be doing... :-(

Can I reserve a ticket now and pay for it by the 22nd deadline? Of if worst comes to worst could I conceivably pay for it now and then if anyone else wants it sell it to them?

Edit: the main places I'm looking for jobs now are in Pittsburgh and D.C. The job market looks a lot better around the latter ;-)

  10. OMG, Linkin Park on top of General??

LAM0RS!! LINKN PRK IS TEH SHALW CR4P!!

But in all seriousness I hear they've taken a new direction here, but that one single I've heard on the radio doesn't sound too different from their older stuff. Probably just the record company playing it safe; I'll have to grab the 30-second samples from iTunes in order to really judge the album ;-)

Heh, maybe it'll broaden my brother's horizons; he's been a big fan of them...

  11. Yes, please let's see what we got!

In other news I've finally re-upped my videos hopefully fixing the audio synching. You might need to wait for YouTube to process them and stuff...

    Jared judging Apples to Apples:

    Shiran's Special Talent:

Larry "Liontamer" judging Apples to Apples:

And a new one: "Ice-Cap and Soul:"

I don't have access to my DrumUltimA-on-WarioWare video at the momemt, so I'll edit this post again when I do.

I still need to get my pictures the hell up...
