  1. i've only had a chance to listen through once, but i'm really digging all of this. great mix of dirty sounds and crisp overall production. the writing is great, too - lots of huge grooves and good melodic content. nice going, dude! what programs are you using?

  2. there's some really cool ideas in here and the arrangement is working nicely. i think it needs a little more direction - adding in some breakbeats would definitely help, but i think you can get it working without resorting to that if you don't feel that's the place to take it. i really dig the glitchy/cut-up stuff going on, and i think if you made more dramatic use of that kind of thing, you could end up with some very cool stuff. vary the rhythms while glitching it out and just go a little crazy with it and see what happens maybe?

  3. Hans Zimmer's score for As Good As It Gets is great, he went back to his Driving Miss Daisy roots.

hans zimmer's score for the holiday is really nice, too:

the movie isn't so hot, but there's some great music there.

i think a lot of thomas newman's work also falls into this category. he's one of my favorite film composers, and his work on stuff like american beauty, wall-e, and cinderella man is really emotive without being too sugary sweet:

  4. Really nice stuff. I knew your name seemed familiar and realized I heard your song on Songs for the Cure. Really great, by the way, and this stuff is right up the same alley (which is definitely my alley.)

I'd say keep it up in the direction your going in. I honestly like the simplistic style. You don't use too many elements in a given song but it works surprisingly well with the instrumentation you've chosen. Kudos.

thanks a ton, dude! i'm really glad you're digging the music, i'm looking forward to working on more stuff like this while trying out new sounds and all that. and thanks for checking out songs for the cure, it's an awesome compilation.

Pretty good dude! I'll be listening to this for a little bit and hopefully give you some decent feedback when I come back to this lol =).

thanks! i dunno if this is still on your radar at all but feel free to hit me up, whether it's here, in a PM, on twitter, through e-mail, whatever. i'd love to hear your thoughts! i appreciate you taking the time to listen.

    thanks again, everyone!

  5. this is really nice, i like this a lot. the arrangement is strong and it's got a great vibe. my only issue with it is that it seems like it loses some momentum around the middle and then picks it up again with the key change. by around 2:30 it just feels like the constant beat has been going on for a little too long and needs a bigger break than what's there now, but that's just my ears (maybe i just listen to too much electronica with buildup/breakdown style songwriting, haha). really nice work, overall!

I just finished up my first release in the form of a free EP called "Transitory." I'd love for you to check it out and let me know what you think (even if you really hate it)! It's pretty mellow, mostly ambient-type stuff. I made the tracks in Logic, using Sculpture for most of the sounds (except for basses, pianos, harp on the last track, and drums). It was a lot of fun to write and experiment with, as I haven't had too much experience with production and this was my first real attempt at a project.

So, yeah, take a listen and hit me up! Thanks a lot.

  7. i haven't listened to the whole album yet, but i'm really digging what i've heard from the first few tracks. very chill, very relaxing, and the soundscapes are really well put together. especially impressive considering the tools you restricted yourself to. i'm looking forward to hearing the rest of this for sure.

  8. martin's model numbering system is completely lost on me, so i can't point to a specific model, but they have a few acoustic/electrics in the $500-ish range that sound and play great. i picked up one about three years ago that i've been really happy with that i've used for playing shows and some recording. it's definitely taken a bit of beating but i haven't had any issues with it. one thing to note, though - of the martins i played while i was shopping around, i noticed that they tend to have pretty low action compared to most other brands, which is something i actually prefer but might not be your cup of tea.

    good luck with the search!
