I'd be quite interested in something like this, actually. Sounds like fun!
-
AVGN FTW. That is perfect. XD

Just a quick question here... would anyone be interested in collaborating with me on a remix of any of the tracks from this release?
I'd be totally down for a remix trade, if you'd be interested. I'm trying to release a remix album in late November/early December of this year.

This looks really neat--I love the visual style and the concept. Sent you a message via your website's contact form.

I looked for something like that myself a while back, and from what I can tell, nothing exists like that. Believe me, I wish it did, too. >.>

I look up most of my music through Spotify or Bandcamp these days, but here are some fantastic albums to check out:
Planet Boelex - Suunta (although anything by Boelex is fantastic)
Eleven Tigers - Clouds Are Mountains
Theophany - Crystal Flash EP (Theophany is also here on OCR)
These are beat-driven artists, for the most part, but not 4-on-the-floor stuff. Loads of soundscapes and glitchy beats is what you're mostly in for.

Sorry, I haven't had enough time yet to sit down and give a detailed crit. I haven't forgotten, if you still want it later on.

"I'm not going to buy anything else on this steam sale. Absolutely not--"
For me, it was seeing Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit for just $5. <,<

Aaaaand...BAM! We have a winner! Congratulations, halc!

Quick thoughts:
The source really doesn't give you much to work with, since it's so repetitive. That alone, I think, would be a massive issue for the judges. You'd almost want to mix it with another source, just so you have some actual melodic content.
I think the judges also might take issue with some of the production values in your remix, as it seems to be very much on the "dry" side of things.
I can go more in-depth if you want, but I don't think you're going to have much luck with this source.
-
Oh dear. I may just have to sign up for a new GMRB.
-
Newb question: Dual monitors for cross checking the mix or ?
I think in this case, dual monitors refers to two computer screens. If I'm not incorrect, then I must also say that once you go dual-monitor, you never go back.

I should have results posted by Friday, and quite possibly sooner than that.

About 30 hours left in the contest. 38, really, if you count the fact that I don't really wake up until eight hours after the "official" deadline. (wink wink, nudge nudge)

Wow, that preview sounds gorgeous. Can't wait to grab it when it comes out!

Oh, and word of advice to anyone paying for the room:
Never, I mean NEVER, pay for the room with debit. You will regret it.
Good to know. Is there a story behind this? What would you recommend instead? (My credit card has a fairly low limit, so I'd rather not have to use it if at all possible.)

As a posted ReMixer and resident Workshop Moderator, I'm going to go ahead and sign up as a star for the pilot here (although I may or may not stick around, depending on my schedule). On OCRemix, I've primarily been characterized by aggressive electronica renditions of games I've never played, but if you take a look at my
Soundcloud page, you'll find that I can literally do almost any genre around, within reason and with the right instrumentalists around me. I've chosen the name "Flexstyle" on purpose.
I don't usually play live instruments, as I play guitar very very badly and don't own a drum kit right now, and my keyboard skills are merely passable. However, I'm a longtime production enthusiast with quite a bit of formal training as well as real-world studio and live-sound experience in that arena, and I'm told I do well at explaining my knowledge to other people.
My current tools are FL Studio 10 Signature Edition, a few extra Image-Line synthesizers, EWQLSO Platinum Plus, the Shreddage soundfont version, and loads and loads of freeware and "magazineware" samples and VST plugins. There are a couple other bits and pieces of software I own that I haven't listed here, too. Oh, and I can do advanced pitch correction and modification for any monophonic vocals, with Image-Line Newtone and Celemony Melodyne 1.8.
Anyone who wishes to work with me will absolutely need FL Studio 10 (Producer edition or higher), but anything beyond that is basically negotiable. All my contact information should be on my forum profile.

Goshdarnit Flex, I thought you said you were going to extend this thing by a month.
I did it for three weeks, heh. Since I've already put in two extensions besides this one, I didn't want to make the last extension too excessive.

Deadline in four days!

Haha, as someone who has a pending solo mixpost but still has no clue what he is doing, I can vouch for the "dumb luck" part of that equation
Hush, you, the plebeians are supposed to think that the judges are like the Olympic gods of yore when it comes to music.

That's the point--I'd be using the SFZ version as a placeholder until I was actually able to afford Komplete 8 (and therefore Kontakt). Such is the life of a man with very little money....
-
I haven't gotten Kontakt yet, but I'm hoping to find room in my budget for Komplete 8 yet this summer. If I were to buy the Kontakt version of Shreddage, would I also be able to access the SFZ version as well?

I'll hop on whatever car/plane/boat/etc. you're taking, I just need to figure out how to get back in time for classes, since they start the day after Mag for me... I'm not missing this again, though. I'll work something out.
Probably going to fly out, since I too will be attending ASU (and therefore classes will start immediately for me, as well). I'm really hoping to have a lower amount of people in the hotel room, as I just know that at some point during the con my introversion will kick in hardcore and I'll need to huddle in a quiet corner with a book for an afternoon. I'm okay with paying a bit extra, personally, if I need to.
EDIT: Also, I'll be down for playing keys and/or drumming in the jam space. Bringing my laptop and keyboard, most likely.
Help me get a laptop for my grandma...

Looks decent, but I've had bad experiences with Acer laptops in the past. They tend to use shoddier parts than some manufacturers. It should be fine, but I'd almost recommend seeing if you can get a Core i3-based laptop instead of a Pentium. Also, my recommendation is to always get the extended warranty, since SOMETHING will most likely go wrong at some point.
This particular laptop has a Core i3 processor, and similar other specs to the one you just posted: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246489
Only reason I'd recommend this over the one you mentioned is the higher grade of processor, as well as the better brand name reputation. Should last a bit longer, theoretically.
