  1. I don't know, I haven't tried it yet, perhaps I should. =P

Unfortunately, I'm not at home right now, so music-making will have to wait a few days. I am, however, pondering and contemplating my future remixes in my mind, I hope that counts too.

    Edit:

    One more thing!!!

    We want:

-your track as a wav, aif, or other high-quality format

-info about the track, your thoughts about it and/or the source

-info about you, a brief bio, formal or informal

Does this still apply? Do I need to send a bio and some of my thoughts on the remix when I send in the .wav file?

  2. Oopsie-daisy, I apologize if that's the case! I could give you a lame excuse that I'm fairly new to the project (and OCRemix in general), but I won't. =P

So there's a private forum too? Is it here on OCRemix or is it somewhere beyond the far reaches of the online universe, and you have to be blindfolded before someone takes you there, and then you're never allowed to leave, and you're doomed to live there and count WIPs forever and ever and EVER?!

In that case, I want in, please.

  3. I'm doing a soundtrackish rendition of Immoral Melody/Footsteps of Desire. I might claim another track or two later, but I only have time for this one right now (I'm also doing a couple of tracks for the Secret of Mana 2 project, and beside the remixing I have some serious university business to take care of, otherwise I'll be skinned alive and eaten).

Not sure how many orchestral mixes are in the works overall, though.

  4. Keiiii, your artwork is nothing short of breathtaking. It's so great, actually, that it inspired me to stop learning Japanese for the big test I have in a few weeks and continue working on the remixes for this project. XD

I just love the way your colors look so spectacularly vibrant, it makes the pictures look so incredibly alive. You've got a lot of talent there, be sure to use it as much as you can! I really look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Yeah, looks that way. We'd leave by plane tomorrow, but it doesn't look like they think it's safe enough to fly.

Here in Slovenia, all the flights have been cancelled this weekend. The dust cloud is supposed to stop bugging us on Wednesday. I've got a trip to Stockholm planned soon, so I hope the volcano won't cause any more problems. Sorry to hear that you're stuck.

  5. I agree with Emunator, it's getting a lot better!

Just a few suggestions - it's what I would do, you're welcome to accept or reject them:

    1) At the beginning, I'd repeat the first 10 seconds, and make the last note a bit longer, maybe try a ritardando, it makes it sound more grand, this way it's a bit rushed.

    2) I'd adjust the volumes in the part from 0:11 to 0:30 so that the playful piano part is more audible, it sounds great, but it's a little too quiet, the organ is drowning it a bit (like luciana07 said).

    3) Again, I would use some tempo changes in the part from 0:30 to 0:39.

    4) I think the transition between 0:39 and 0:40 is too sudden. I think you can improve it just by making the break a bit longer, just a second or maybe two. If you make the last organ note a bit longer and stretched (tempo change) and then immediately continue with a longer break, the 0:40 part will have a greater effect after the suspense created by the break.

    5) Tubular bells are a nice addition, I wonder why you didn't use them in the first two parts too? If I were you, I'd use them in the beginning too, at least a few times.

    5) Lastly, the last part might be a little too calm to finish off a song like this. Maybe if you turned it into a sort of bridge? I'd definitely finish this song with the refrain, plus if you repeat the part from 1:07 to 1:43, you get some extra time for the song.

    6) I'd also recommend a bit of instrument variation. You don't necessarily need to add any new instruments, you could use the ones you have now, but let them interchange a little bit, like a sort of dialogue. For example, the melody between 0:50 and 1:07 can be played by the organ (like now), but at 1:07, the harpsichord or the piano could take the lead. And at 1:12, another instrument could take over. There are all these little pieces of melody, and all are played by the organ. I'd let the harpsichord get some more attention too. =D

That's it, I suppose, I really hope you improve this, it sounds very neat, just a little more tweaking and you're done. =D Congratulations!

  6. The theme from Owzer's House has always been one of my favorites, it's so nice to hear it remixed so well!

But why such a short piece? I think you should definitely expand it a little bit, maybe add slower build-up intro and an ending part, and you've got three minutes right there!

I love the overall sound of the mix, it sounds like an insane supervillain's victory rock dance. =D

Very nice indeed, I hope you intend to do a longer version too.

And congratulations on beating XIII, I hear it's rather difficult. =D

  7. I like where this is going, especially the piano part! I'm a real sucker for piano with delay, so that's definitely a plus in my book. =D

It's still a bit too short to really comment on it, but still, I like the instruments you chose. I personally wouldn't have chosen the organ for this piece (just because it feels a bit too sinister for this particular song), but that's just what I would do, I don't mean to say it sounds bad or anything.

    Just a few suggestions, though:

    - Add some percussion, at least a cymbal or a gong when one part finishes and another one starts (you're probably planning on doing that, just a reminder).

    - You could make sure the piano doesn't get too repetitive by adding some grace notes or by playing octaves - the current mix repeats the same pattern three times, and while it is pleasant to hear, it would be better to make it less repetitive.

    - At the beginning (the organ part), adjust the volumes a little bit, sometimes the melody is a bit quiet compared to other organ notes.

That's about it for now. I think you did a wonderful job, it sounds very good considering you're only using soundfonts (I think I know exactly which, I think I used the same ones before I got some better samples XD ).

Keep at it and it'll get better and better, you'll see. =)

  8. To be honest i think that this is the best of the prelude remixes Ive heard. Ever!
The orchestration is obviously amazing - you've really made a name for yourself with these brilliant orchestral compositions lately, and I think this one's a must-listen regardless of whether it's too conservative.

Thanks a lot for your comments, guys, I really appreciate it. =)

I really hope it makes it past the judges panel! not just so it can be on OCremix, but that more ppl will be able to hear this!
My gut tells me that this is too conservative to pass the OCR panel, but it's worth a shot I suppose.

Yeah, to be honest, I don't think it will pass either, I didn't really follow the OCRemix guidelines when I was remixing, but then I said to myself that there was probably no harm in trying, so I submitted it. We all know the result, I guess, we'll just have to wait until, I don't know, MAY or JUNE to confirm it. =D

Not to worry, though, I'll do something more OCRemix-friendly the next time I remix something. Any requests? =D

  9. Thanks a lot, it's always nice to get some tips from a pro. =)

I agree the mix needs some polishing, still have to wait to get some new headphones though, turns out my current ones distort the sound somehow. I'm surprised the mix is not total crap.

As far as the delayed piano is concerned, it's basically my signature instrument and you can hear it in practically all of my songs. It's not completely alone, though, there's quite a lot of other artificial stuff in there (wind effects, (slightly) electronic percussion, low kicks, etc.).

Thanks again for the tips, everyone, I really appreciate it!

  10. This was lovely, I actually like country music and to be honest I was half expecting to hear Dolly Parton after a few bars. XD

Very nice, it's so simple and relaxing. As a pianist I'm especially fond of the piano. Finish this, it would be a crime if you didn't. =D

I think the overall volume's a bit low, though, but I'm not sure about that since my headphones and speakers seem to be a little off. What do others think?

  11. I didn't listen to the early versions since it seemed a bit redundant, but the last version is pretty neat! I especially like the beats, they're very - hm, how should I say this in English - decisive? =D

I don't know what else to say, actually. I'm not sure my headphones are all OK so I'd rather not comment on any mix-related stuff, I can only say that I found it a very enjoyable remix with enough variation to not make it repetitive.

Good job, I hope you get posted!

  12. Wow, so many replies, I'm overwhelmed with joy. XD Thank you for the nice comments, everyone. I really appreciate it, it's so nice to hear that people enjoy my music.

As a huge fan of FFV, I HAD to listen to this. Sadly, I'm not knowledgeable in music making, so chances are I'm going to word this all very badly (Or maybe not, who knows?). I'm better at writing, so I'll try to articulate my words into a story.
Thanks a lot for such an eloquent and thought-out reply. I'm glad the song inspired you so much! Now I wish someone made a short CGI movie of the story you've written, I can totally visualize it too. =D
some of the melodic 'lead' instruments are slightly overbearing at times, but otherwise this is solid.
While the lead woodwinds can get a bit overpowering at times
that it can get a bit intense/piercing at times
    The asian instruments are piercing
I've listened to it on another computer and I think it has something to do with my headphones/speakers, I didn't notice it before. No problem, though, it's just a simple matter of adjusting the volume a little bit. =)
May I ask how you got such realistic Piano?
You may, but I'll never tell! Nah, just kidding, it's a piano sample library called Eastwest Boesendorfer 290. If you need more details, you can PM me. =)
I think we've found ourselves a new orchestral masta on OCR - first the prelude and now this :).
Hahaha, I think we need to wait for the judges' decision before bestowing honorary titles. =D But thank you very much, sir, you flatter me beyond all measure. XD
  13. Great work, one of my favorite songs from Donkey Kong Country. I enjoyed your remix very much, although I do agree with halc about adding another a few more bars to make it longer. You've made some pretty nice melody arrangements and it's all very funky!

I realize it's hard to make a long remix of such a short song, but in my opinion this sounds too good to have less than 2 minutes of it. If you're out of ideas, you can repeat a certain segment, but with a different instrument playing the melody.

The part I like the most is the one at approximately 1:06, I like the rhythm change or whatever it's called in English, not sure about that. =D

I would also adjust the volume of some of the instruments. I think that sometimes the cymbals make it sound just a bit cluttered, so I would lower their volume just a little bit if I were you.

But overall, a great remix, very enjoyable indeed, you do the source justice. Keep up with the good work! =)

  14. This is wonderful, there's so many details and I'm loving it! I like that the percussion keeps changing but still keeps the groove. I also like the Gameboy/Famicom instruments you used.

Sorry, I'm babbling, I'm just writing this while listening.

I do have a question, though. How did you make that beat from 0:18 to 0:26, it sounds like it has a degrade effect on it or something. It sounds really cool and I've tried to make that sound but I just can't seem to be able to. =D

Anyway, you've made a remix that's full of details, and at the same time it's still very easy and pleasant to listen to, good job!

  15. Although I'm not too big on trance music (or electronica or whatever the word people use today to describe this type of music is), but I like this one a lot. Stickerbrush Symphony has always been one of my favourite pieces from the DKC soundtrack.

I like the fact that you made it sound more upbeat and less ethereal than the original, it sounds very simple and clear.

The only thing I think you should improve is the ending. Is there even the whole mp3 there? It sounds like a part of it got cut or something.

But overall a very good and enjoyable remix, congratulations, I think you've done a wonderful job on it. =)

  16. Wow, thank you so much for the wonderful comments everyone, I really appreciate it!

lol I'm kidding. This is purely epic. I love EVERYTHING about it, but I'll have to agree with fixing up the choir a bit. But even with something as minor as that, it doesn't hurt the remix in any way. I officially <3 you for this.

You're welcome, hehe, I'm very glad you like it! I may get back to the choir once, I'm just not in the mood for it now, I have so many other projects (plus university stuff) that I just can't afford to dabble in old remixes now, hehe. =D

This needs to go on this site, so submit it, damnit.

I think it's definitely worth submitting.

Thanks, hehe. Actually, I've already submitted it a couple of weeks ago, but I never expected it to pass (and I still don't think it will). But that's not really the point now, is it? The main thing is it's nice to see that people like it. =D

Oh, and this prelude song probably isn't in FFXIII because Nobuo Uematsu isn't involved in the soundtrack. Rights to the song and all... :)

Ah, could be, yes. Though I still think it's sacrilege not to have the Prelude in a Final Fantasy game. XD

I am curious as to what all programs you generally use if you don't mind me asking by the way. I liked the other stuff you put up on reverbnation a lot also, so I guess it sparked my interest.

Not at all! I use a lot of Eastwest stuff (Symphonic Orchestra, Symphonic Choirs, RA, Stormdrum etc.) and some other stuff as well. For sequencing and mixing, I use FL Studio. If you'd like to know more just send me a message. =)

  17. Hey everyone!

I've been working on this for the past week or so, and I must say I'm pretty proud of the result. =) I'm about to submit it and I thought I'd post it here first, just to see if I missed something I should improve. (However, I REALLY hope I didn't since I'm somewhat sick of these melodies after so much work and I'd really just like to move on. =D )

    I'm babbling, I'm sorry, it's late where I live.

Without further ado, I give you Dragon Wings (Final Fantasy V Medley):

    http://www.reverbnation.com/jakacibejarchangel

It's an orchestral/soundtrackish/epic remix with lots of exotic instruments (shakuhachi, duduk, Irish low whistle, Uilleann pipes ...).

The themes I used were Lenna's Theme, Ahead On Our Way and The Dragon Spreads Its Wings.

I hope you enjoy the music!
