  1. It's the anso's birthday, the entire anso's birthday... Enjoy yourself today, sir.
  2. Heavy is the most vulnerable 'strong' class. Frogg knows this; his paranoia is proof positive of that. When he's playing something else, his mindset shifts. It's logical his behaviour would follow suit. A server mod that can be disabled by default across all maps. This isn't something I imagine we would open up to the general public; just a little something different that some of us would sneak off to RED for now and then. It constrains the default rules of the game in order to provide a different gameplay experience. If you consider that experience unbalanced compared to the original, we won't force you to participate. Just like we don't force anyone to show up for Monday night scrims; once it's set up, this would be opt-in only. RED is basically derelict at this point. It's used for semi-weekly informal scrimmages, and a watershed from the post-class update chaos. New gamemodes to base community events around would allow a lot more mileage out of the second server.
  3. Having specced Frogg a few times (and talked at length with Aeronaut, who does so quite a bit more often), I can say that he's just incredibly paranoid. Every time he spins around and kills you, there were 10-15 times in the past minute where he turned around and didn't find anything. You really have to nail him from above, or when you're sure he's 100% distracted. On an unrelated note, Scaids pinged me today about setting up some games of Hunted. Anybody with rcon be willing to hook us up once we figure out a schedule?
  4. Personally I hope the damage bonus gets changed to a falloff reduction. That makes it more effective at mid-to-long range, emphasizing the sharpshooting aspect, while still capping the point-blank damage at 110-ish like a normal rocket. It would also reduce the weapon's effectiveness vs. sentries, which I'm sure engineers would welcome. The mini-crits can stay, imo; unlocks are supposed to change the metagame, and making your enemy afraid to jump is as good a change as any.
  5. Now if only they would add: "Attrib_ValveTimeBonus""-%s1% time between updates" "Attrib_ValveTimePenalty""+%s1% time between updates"
  6. Nightfall was fun, but hilariously buggy. Ducky got stuck in the spawn door on stage 2, and as far as we could tell there were no carts in stage 3.
  7. Preview. The more I think about it, the more I want the 4th weapon to be the PDQ.
  8. As exciting as this is, I noticed the guy wearing the trophy belt hat in the center of that page is Saxton Hale. Meaning Valve has taken the time to render him in-game. I hope they do something with that, further down the line. EDIT: Also, just curious. Did anyone else see the "Every Item is Useful" sticker and think of
  9. Diablo is a Blizzard North property. That division no longer exists, but it isn't particularly relevant. A different set of people laid the groundwork, and the differences in their design philosophies are obvious. Also, define widely-played. I would think SF2 and all its incarnations to be a good example, unless you're going to be finicky about numbers.
  10. Doing something for free is not an excuse to half-ass it. There are many, many more problems within the game that could have been addressed in this patch. That said, while I can understand people's disappointment, I'm not too broken up over it myself. Single player is enough to sate the urge to play when it strikes me, and only a couple of the changes affect the characters I tend to use. EDIT: Erm, it's only been 2 years for that. I believe you're thinking of HL2. As for the updates, well... We'll see what happens after Engie gets his stuff.
  11. This actually isn't a bad idea. We'd be frequently shorthanded, but it would be nice to have something more... intimate than 12v12.
  12. I snickered. I honestly did. If that's the best you can come up with to try and boil my blood, you might as well leave now. Rose-colored glasses. It worked well for some people. A few others, most notably me, wanted to try more customs than we were doing at the time. Just to mix it up. Historically, this notion has been poorly received. I've made my peace with the fact that this community doesn't like to constantly experiment; their loss in my opinion, but it's a dead issue. So, in the interest of efficiency, I guess I'll propose that #2 be converted into a private event server. IIRC the server fees are less if you keep it passworded; confirm/deny, anyone?
  13. The only reason that happens is because of a couple of specific people(you know who you are) who have an axe to grind. They dislike certain things about the game or the server or whatever, and pursue their talking points aggressively. Belligerently, even. This. We have a whole other server, ostensibly for custom maps. Yet it sits empty 90% of the time, because people go where the community goes. As for the rotation, I'll suggest swapping 2Fort with Well CTF, Yukon with Pipeline, and adding Lumberyard.
  14. HoN has its share of that too. Don't you act like it doesn't. In other news, everyone should read this. Take a minute and imagine what they're proposing would look like in-game. You won't be disappointed.
  15. I don't see why not. :P

I get that one all the time, but I'm stickin' to my guns. Evolving is for chumps.

  16. Not terribly. Hit that link in the OP and pick out the files Fireslash mentioned. They're all small downloads, you should have no problem. You will need a Umod installer to unpack the files (I used this one). Install everything to your game directory (something like C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YourAccount\UnrealTournament IIRC) and you're good to go. -- Color me extremely interested in this event. I also have prior commitments tomorrow, but I'll pop on when I get home and see if anyone's still around.
  17. Oh, what the hell. You've already stated you don't participate in pregame for this reason. I don't see what the problem is. You sure seem to like having a controlling interest in one. Which brings us to the current discussion. Because a bug is a bug, and it should be fixed regardless. In your opinion. Slay and the other non-essential admin commands were put into Sourcemod for a reason; it just happens to be a reason that doesn't line up with what you believe is right and proper. There's an important difference between "This bothers me" and "This bothers me and I'd like you to stop". Bring the other people onside, then you'll have a case. Frankly, I'm kind of mystified at the fact you still want to play with us. You don't get along with a lot of people in the community, and you seem to prefer the experience offered by basically every other server on the Internet. I'd genuinely like to know what keeps you coming back.
  18. See, this is exactly what I was talking about. The account thing, meh. Some people like a little more RPG in their games, others don't. On top of that, players at max level should never be in the same game as someone just starting out, because unlike HoN, LoL has a fully functional matchmaking system. And a seperate lobby for "practice" games where things tend to be taken less seriously. Just because something doesn't suit your tastes, that doesn't make it 'terrible'. If nothing else, I prefer it over HoN because you can't farm up a disgustingly powerful carry who can easily take on the entire other team and win after a certain point. No matter what you pick, you rely on your team to support you or die. Period.
  19. Well, I might as well say my piece too. Basically, there are some important decisions in LoL that make it a fundamentally different experience, despite being grounded in the same genre. The most obvious is the deliberate omission of denying, but there are others, such as global xp for towers as well as gold. Ultimately I feel that it's a shallower game than HoN, but that doesn't bother me a whit. I'm really not out to express my dominance over others by exhibiting superior skill in a largely arbitrary system of game mechanics; I just want to kick back and play some video games with people whose company I enjoy. In my experience, the atmosphere that LoL provides is simply more conducive to that end.
  20. It's a legacy thing. Traditionally, each individual player's skill has been the most important aspect of 'high-level' play, though that is subverted in explicitly team-focused games like TF2. Anyway. A stunning mechanic, by nature, takes control away from the player who gets stunned. Most competitive players feel this breaks away from the FPS norm too much. They've become set in their ways(imo), and just blanket-banned it instead of learning to adapt.
  21. Nothing is harmless in Vahn's hands. He will use any and every means available (such as using said trick to rape the FPS of any opponents on the lower end of the system requirements) to win, because that's the only thing he considers fun. And I do mean the only thing.
