  1. So I've gotten rather bored of rock/metal and trance inspired music lately and want to do something else. Problem is, I'm not sure what.

Jazz? Soul? Reggae? Hip Hop? Country? Disco? I dunno.

So how many different styles of music do you compose, remix, play or otherwise participate in? Do you have favourites? If so, what makes that genre(s) a favourite of yours?

What kinds of software, hardware, virtual instrument libraries etc. do you use to create the genres you do and what would you recommend I should do if I want to make the same kind of music you do?

    Serioulsy? experiment.

I found my own style by making a lot of music. But when I create something or listen to something, what's make the awesomeness is the chaotic part where you have like 2-3 sounds and they are playing hasardously while still being arranged like that. And the other thing I find myself banging at is Slow beats with big bass and High pitch sounds.

For the genre, I usually mix electro, dubstep and drum & bass alltogheter. I use FL studio and the basic plug-in.

If you wanna try something more like your style, try Drum & bass. Guitars are pretty hot in Drum & bass.

    Edit:

  2. I was reading the comments as I listened to this great piece.

    This is just plain awesomeness.

This should be in everyone computer. This is a mix to look at when you want to really expand a song from the original.

Actually I'm having difficulty expanding sources but listening to this track make me wanna try new things and be less biased to the genre.

We all still have to learn things, and I'm the first to. This mix is my new studying book! It feels new being old with the source.

I can take this as an example of what OCR is for.

    Thanks Xenon for this awesomeness.

BTW chiptunes feels like they need to be there. :)

Turn volume way up when you listen to that. Do you hear that fuzzy sound? I just recorded a clean part with that exact same sound and setup 5 days before and it came out crystal clear. I've checked all the connections and can't figure out what is causing the sound. Any ideas?

If I do any of the following, the sound gets quieter or disappears completely.

-cover the strings with my hands. (can't do that while playing though)

-touch the effects pedal. (Doesn't matter what part you touch, either)

-touch the metal part of any of the involved guitar cables.

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Yeah. Sounds like you pluged something new in your outlet and they are battling for the ground.

    I suppose you know! ;)

  4. I dont use these things often. but I would like to know if there are any 3 multiband compressors for free that I could use lightly on some old tracks that sound weird and no access to the original track. I googled and all I got where youtube videos and tutorial pages.

Before bying MAXIMUS, I was using T-Sledge. It's free and well made.VST. Give it a try.

  5. Especially Evga seems to have more voltage on their board so they run higher but are more risky to blue screen.

But in the same way I already had the same problem. And I didn't solve it in 6 month. But I changed my pc and kept some piece from my old since I was suspucious about my board. I'm not investigating the board anymore but it is obviously the cause of the problem. It was one time out of three boot I could blue screen in the first 10 min of run. And memtest could give live 20,000 of error or could have just froze. And then you restarted it and it could never give you an error even after 24h of memtest.

Computers are so uncomprehensible. Still I love them! I'm happy you could resolve it at least. Keep us updated. I'm interested in this.

  6. This is very hot indeed. I love the dark and low-fi sound to it.

My only complaint tho is the drum line. It's repetitive a bit. But it need more than this kick in snare (By the way they are both from the fl starter pack. They sound awesome but they need a little tweak).

Keep at it. I really love the low-fi sound from this.

  7. Congrats on getting posted Rockos.

As to the mix, it's definitely an interesting take on the source - I don't think I've ever heard anything vaguely like it. The reverb actually didn't bother me in the slightest; it felt like it fit in with the overall tone of the track's direction. In fact, I'd almost say I think I'd enjoy the track less if it had less reverb - almost makes the character of the track.

This is a really weird ,creepy and SUPREMELY AWESOME remix.

The source melodies feel very recognizeable immediately and that helps to make this incredibly enjoyable!

    Thanks a lot guys.

  8. Well thus far I've reinstalled Steam, updated my GTX 460 to the latest drivers, and tried out Sleeping Dogs again with Speedfan running. CPU was stable at around 43-44c, while the GPU seemed to be pretty high at around 65c, of course I had read before that GPUs were designed to run at much higher temps, so I figured that was fine. I had also read before that certain versions of nVidias graphics drivers pretty close to the one I had previously installed caused issues with the fan or something, so that might have had an adverse effect.

I was able to play through the Sleeping Dogs demo in its entirety without any problems at all other than some goofy framerate issue that had been reported by plenty of users before. I'm going to give Mass Effect 2 a shot since I don't have it through Steam to see how that goes for about an hour or so and report back. Thanks for the feedback so far, gang.

Oh and I haven't tried running the games through their .exes, although I'll give it a try if the issue persists. My case is also due for a cleaning as well. I'm actually also having a fan issue that I've had since I built the machine in that the side panel fan is obnoxiously loud. It could just be the way I have it screwed in, but I wonder if it might be a voltage issue or something? Thanks again, gang!

No problem. Keep us up to date. I'll like to know if the drivers where at fault :P

  9. Hey gang! So I'm having a strange issue that seems to just effect games that I launch with my Steam Client.

I'll be playing through either a demo of a game like Tomb Raider or Sleeping Dogs or even a retail game like Deus Ex, and after an undetermined amount of time(could be 10 minutes, could be an hour), the game locks up and all sorts of graphical tearing starts occurring. I'll force out of the game, only to see that the Steam window itself starts to become glitchy, and so does Google Chrome, which will crash and then never open again unless I restart the system.

Needless to say, this is quite vexing as a guy who is trying to get back into PC gaming. I've recently updated my GeForce drivers to the latest(302.72 or something I believe), but have yet to try anything out just yet. I had read previously that nVidia was having certain issues with previous driver versions, so that may have been the problem. Nevertheless, here are my system specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition unlocked to an X4 B55 at 3.5 ghz

    4GB DDR3 RAM

    eVGA GeForce GTX460 1GB DDR5

    Windows 7 Home 64-bit

I haven't tried testing the RAM yet as some leads have led me to, although I have found posts saying that it could be a DX11 issue, which strikes me as possible since I have never encountered this problem with Street Fighter X Tekken. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance, guys!

If you say graphical glitche and google chrome crash, you have an hardware starting to fail. Check out your GFX card temperature. If it's high and you have some artifact on the screen, it is an video faillure. Memory could be at fault. Driver also. Windows dll corruption or even a virus.

But you need further testing. Try a game that is not steam. Try an older dx9 game. Always check your gfx & cpu temp. It should isolate the problem to software or hardware. Keep us to the last news about it. I can be of great help.

  10. As already said there is a little overcompression in the mix making some instrument ducking. Otherwise the song is great and would be OCR worthy if thing goes well. But the mixing is pretty bad.

I love the fact that you went with creativity and the mix sounds pretty different from the other take. Keep it up.

  11. Depend of what kind of sound you are searching for. The oscilliation in the song syndicate are made with a lp playing the cutoff and resonance. The aie aie sound is a bit crushed sound with maximum resonance. A lot of work is needed to reproduce something similar. You need a lot of patience, play with some effect and search for the exact sound using basic synth and chain of effect.

For the DAW, I use Fruity loop studio. This is user-friendly. Others may use reason, cubase, reaper etc. You need to find one that suite your working style.
