  1. I've got the little brother to those headphones, the Sennheiser HD598 model, which are fantastic and significantly cheaper. If I'm going to listen I plug those babies in, but if I'm just want some more-or-less "background music," I just play off my laptop speakers because that's all I have otherwise (one day I will correct this egregious fault of mine, however).
  2. Hey Lyan, Nice work. I'd recommend not having the trumpet loop the whole time. If I may be honest, it sticks out juuust enough to get obnoxious when I should be focusing on the woodwinds (at, for example, :09). I'd recommend something like moving to a long tone there and then having the line fade back in and out at certain points; that way, it'll become ornamental and won't get old (edit: especially if you intend this tune to continue to loop).
  3. Just another lazy Monday on the farm... https://soundcloud.com/scorevgm/mondays-theme You can read about it a little more on my blog's latest post if you're so inclined--just click the banner below. Thanks for listening--hope to hear some feedback!
  4. I don't know if you can get it in the wild, but the Amazon preorder familiar Griffy just eats everything up. I feel like I'm cheating a little bit when I use him, as I probably should have been dead and gone in a few spots only to have him come out and rake. Regarding the music, I think there are some truly beautiful tracks that do a great job of capturing the game's themes, especially in regards to childlike innocence and adventure. Also, I am in agreement with Zircon that the music makes it feel like a classic RPG, and that just adds to its charm. Could be that I just don't play many JRPGs nowadays, but I can't remember the last time I felt the type of nostalgia I do when I play this game. It *is* way too repetitive, though, but it could definitely be worse: the music could be ridiculously repetitive and ear-wrenching, or the writing could be downright boring. As is, I find the repetition pretty bearable--take a few days off from playing and go back to it, maybe, if it's getting too hard to take.

  6. "Streets of L.A." (SoundCloud) "Streets of L.A." is a "hort sample tune that represents the sinister ongoings on the streets of an in-game metropolis." It's a bit of a departure from my go-to style--despite wanting to write more orchestral pieces I thought to branch out a bit this weekend. Comments/suggestions are welcome and much appreciated!
  7. They used to have some awesome contests. I was really lucky to have been one of the winners of a Surfing Pikachu for Pokemon Yellow, which was so, so exciting at the time. But to tell you the truth, I will never forget the contest which had a grand prize of starring in "The Mask 2." Now, "The Son of the Mask" came out in 2005 - 11 years after the first one - and I'm pretty sure that the contest took place within a year after "The Mask" came out in theaters. Leaves me to wonder if the winner of that contest happened to have gotten a call during filming in '04 and was at least offered a role as an extra....
  8. Nice work with all three pieces! "Harbor Town" is a lot of fun and has a great melody; I could definitely see myself playing in the environment that you've created. My only suggestion with it would be to lighten up on the cymbals a bit. They're a nice touch, but having them on 2 and 4 for such a long time makes them stale, especially when they get to be more bombastic with the entrance of the tympani. "Forward Motion" works so well on solo guitar. Going off of what Amphibious said, the melody is simple, yet the way that you've arranged it with all of the moving parts on one guitar gives it a complexity that provides a sweet drive. Nice shirt in the video, by the way.
  9. I quoted it to emphasize its subjectivity, not because I don't think you know what it means; thanks.
  10. "Catchy" doesn't mean "not crap," and anyway, music that has been deemed "catchy" for those living in the 21st century doesn't mean that music that once was played a lot wasn't once catchy and couldn't still be relevant--the radio stations just don't want to take their chances. Case in point, was a number-one back in 1974:
  11. "Vocal tracks" prior to radio were folk tunes and operatic pieces. Opera used to be huge; folk songs have always been popular, in a sense. One might say that modern pop music is the folk music of yesteryear and that radio just allowed for the full realization of folk music.
  12. Is it just me or are have bill names been getting annoyingly long and increasingly self-righteous? It could be that I just didn't pay attention before, but it's a pretty interesting tactic to try and make people not publicly oppose bills.
  13. Unfortunately, their funkiest tracks aren't on YouTube, but the Chris Potter Underground is super killin'. Nate Smith is a monster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1bGsOYLQ9U&feature=related
  14. Hey, everyone! I'm Greg. I've been musically involved for thirteen years, when I first picked up an alto sax on the first day of middle school band, but didn't start writing my own stuff until spring 2006. Back then I wrote sparsely and all of my music revolved around my music of study in college, jazz. Writing picked up over the next few years, but I didn't actually write anything intended for games until the fall after I graduated (2009). Since then I've been getting more and more serious about writing for games. To keep myself focused, among other things, I started writing a blog (you can click my sig if you'd like to check it out). For me, joining OCRemix is long overdue, I think. I look forward to listening to and working on many projects here in the future. Cheers! PS: I already posted a thread in the WIP section. Did it last night and then thought 'hey, I'm sure there's a place to introduce myself.' Sure enough...
  15. Hey! It kind of feels weird just jumping into the forum without an introduction, but in any case... Through my blog (linked in my sig) I've been working on two projects. One is practically done (or, essentially, on a freeze because I wanted to move on) and the other I just recently started working on. Check them out and let me know what you think.
