Dang. That sounds like a major set-up. So you mean it's better to start out as Windows 10? My only thought with this is, what if certain VSTi's aren't compatible with it.

Thanks for the reply's everyone, I learned a lot more about the things I'd need. Didn't know 32GB of RAM was a thing tbh o-o. In the long run, that amount of ram is probably what I'd need, seeing as how I'd use Orchestra samples in the future. One issue I definitely want to avoid, is having my CPU bottleneck again. I'll definitely PM you about all of this prophetik !

Okay, thanks for letting me know that ! How would I build something on my own? I know the main things I'm looking for are: 1TB Drive 8GB Ram i7 Processor And a DVD Drive (Not sure about soundcards and how that affects everything tbh). but how would it be cheaper to do this purpose driven?

I'm going to start looking for a desktop computer for making music, because my laptop's CPU bottlenecks when I have more then 12 tracks in my DAW. What type of processing power is best. This is something I'll get far off in the future, but it's good to know now. I've been caught up with 4 courses at UNLV, and have been working 2 jobs too (one's infrequent and part time). Involved in a school Engineering competition as well. Got a cello , and have been playing again. Also have been going to the Life Is Beautiful Festival as well (we got free tickets to it at school), it's been Epic so far! The harmony chords that you listed, being able to identify those more is what I'm going for. What do you mean by unextended harmony? And you're right. That's what I was hearing, I guess it just stood out a lot to me. Is there a reason why the jump stands out so much? (Is it an uncommon one?) My knowledge of chord extensions and their notation varies. I notate my songs before I export them into my daw, but I can't identify a chord as being E Flat Major7 or anything like that. What's the theory regarding that progression in the song?

There's this song Alchemy, that I like. But at 1:37 the vocal melody does something that sounds unique to me. I'd like to use it one day (I can always notate it by ear), but the thing is, I want to know what's going from a music theory standpoint. Like what is he doing to make it sound like that. Is it going through a slight key change, is he hitting an accidental, is the melody clashing with the key. Things like that. I just know I'm hearing something there, and I can't pick it out really. But I like it, sounds, unique to me.

Thanks for the replies, started checking some of the sites out I'm trying to be able to identify wha I use in my songs. I can do certain things like (Napoleon Chords; read up on that after I went to musictheory), but I've never identified what I've used. Like now I can see that I've used them before, and maybe how I can better use them.

I'm starting this thread to ask about how I can teach myself more in-depth music theory. And how I can get a comprehensive understanding of it. Free books, software, or anything else that would help is appreciated !

Announcement We have reached the 3rd deadline for the album. I'll be sending out PM's to everyone on the album to check on the status of everything. This deadline is no longer a "Substantial WIP" deadline either. That has been moved down to a later, and yet to be decided date.
