  1. As the death metal vocalist I think I can safely share my opinion on rap vocals. There's actually a lot of similarity between death vocals and rap vocals. Death vocals, mainly monotone, with a ferocious changing of pitch between growling and screaming, but not really based too much on melody. Usually based on rhythmic timing.

Rap vocals on the other hand... usually pretty much the same thing, but without the growling or screaming. Monotone, almost like speaking in a rhythmic manner. Though I believe growls can express a lot more emotion than raping. Rap vocals stop being rap vocals when they introduce melody or auto-tune, with the exception of douchebags like Kanye West who put auto-tune on their monotone talking.

I'm obviously biased so I can't say one is better than the other, I'll just say they are fairly equal, at least on the surface. It takes a lot more vocal effort and control to be able to pull off a constant string of growling.

  3. Dammit Oinky, i thought this was going to be barbershop quartet.

As for the song itself, well I'll echo the others, it ain't great but I was expecting worse too. You clearly have some balls to try this and some skill to not make it suck entirely. What is the source on this>?

I think it is just the Monkey Island opening theme or main theme. :o

And it's an African barbershop.. that's my excuse. :)

  4. Ok, people!

3 out of 12 songs remaining? I think that's pretty awesome. If we can get a few more people to claim a track, that would be outstanding. If not, I'll have to do them myself! Come on. Please. Make it easier on me.

We've got WIPs from Flik, bjkmenu, BardicKnowledge, and OCRE. YES! OCRE! And hey, I just edited this post to say I finished a song, so we have our first song done... yay. If anyone in the project wants to hear it, let me know.

    Now it's your turn!

Don't forget folks, the due date for first WIPs is October 31st. Anyone without a WIP turned in for their track by then will lose their claim on the track.

  5. I was going to submit this, since there's really not much way I could edit this.. I mean I could add on to it but it's pretty solid as it is. Ok, so I had been planning to make a barbershop remix of the Monkey Island theme for like a month, but I've heard like 2 barbershop songs on TV comedies and have no idea what they are. I think I did a pretty good job. The last time I actually heard the song was when I played Special Edition when it was released, not since then... so I sort of did it from memory too.

    Some backstory

A small monkey is living in Africa. The sky is dark, and there is naught a thing in sight. Looking for shelter, the monkey runs into a nearby hut. It's pitch black. The monkey hears a man start singing a note and almost jumps out of his skin. Then another. Then another. Then another. A young African boy with a leather jacket, holding a very old AC/DC album then joins in with the other 4 singers.

They begin to sing a haunting melody of monkey adventures past. They strap the monkey into a large, frightening chair, and tie him down. The monkey notices that all of the men are bald. As they sing, they begin to shave the monkey until he's entirely hairless. By the end of the song, the monkey is completely bald and all of the men have made a wig out of his discarded hair.

They charge him $10.99 for the cut and send him on his way.

  6. Quoting the first response to the thread

    EPIC FAIL

It's amazing how far this has gone, im really glad to see see the project's done! (...or almost) :-)

The saddest thing is that the guy's viewpoint is still a fairly strong one in this community. x_x It dissuades people from starting new projects.

  7. Hah, it was pretty awesome. How will I know when the next W is coming out? By the way, I didn't watch the other show because it was like episode 28 of something or other and I always prefer to start at the beginning. :-)

Kamen Rider W wasn't really the beginning of the story though, as far as I could tell, even if it was an episode one. It's like a sequel to a previous series. :o

  8. I'm not going to argue the differences between being "well known" and "popular"... that's.... yeah. Whenever someone tries to start a project, the gargoyles descend and scare them away. This thread is a perfect example of that. And it was done to me as well, but I didn't give up.

I would be willing to help co-manage this project if you ever change your mind, Jade.

  9. You're the one who's ignorant. Nobody has ever implied that you have to be popular to make good music.

They have but I don't feel like rummaging through all of my logs to make you a compilation of all of it. And I know you won't be satisfied until I do. So I'll just leave it at that.

  10. lol Considering I was bashed to death with even proposing the idea, I lost interest in this thread. I hope someday there is such a project.

    OC ReMix strikes again.

Honestly, I've found the people and community to be very unspirational for creating music. If you want it done, you should just do it for yourself and keep at it. The people who say you "can't" do it because you're not well known enough are just morons. Making music has nothing to do with a person's popularity. Besides, you could be very popular in different music scenes outside of OCR. That line is just an excuse for them to be lazy and ignorant.

I mean... the people here are great, and very nice. :)
