As a general rule, try to find other sources to go along with the wikipedia pages or we could just link the reader away instead of having bios on the site. That would suck. I'm going to comment further on your bios once I've straightened out what it is that I don't like about them. Much as I'd love to, that's not really for me to decide. The way I'd want it to be is rather dependent on the vbullentin system that is, if I'm not mistaken, in progress of replacing the phpBBB one on this site. The new system would enable me, and others, to create sub-threads within threads, and that way, we could have one thread for each character. That would simplify things. It would also mean that we could, when someone clicks a mascot, direct them to a page that contains the bio and where people could comment on the bio and or suggest improvements to it etc. If someone clicks a mascot that hasn't had a bio written for it yet, there could be a message that says "No one has written a bio for this mascot yet! Do you want to write a bio now?" And then you could click yes and be forwarded to the bio instructions page and - well, you get the idea. Unfortunately, this is not possible - yet. But I agree, we need some kind of advertisement beyond my sig image.

Much better, p_n! I fixed some minor spelling errors and stuff - but there are still a number of sentences that could be written with more fluency. If you don't feel like trying yourself, leave it the way it is and I'll try to do it myself. But it's a great improvement from the first! Also, in your case, since you only have one game listed, you might as well list the games mentioned at the end of your bio in the games list instead, since he's an important character in those games and not just doing a small cameo appearance. Or is he? Bummerdude, consider shortening the list of FF games. Chocobo's been in so many games that are covered already... Maybe you could move the games that are not yet covered into the end of the bio instead (like I just told p_n not to ), and just mention that Chocobo has been other games than the FF series, that he has a few games named after him and so on. Don't, however, remove any covered games from the list unless Chocobo's actually in them. Also, in your bio it says it first showed up in FF2, but you listed FF1 in the appearances list? I know there's a lot of confusion about the numbering of the FF games, but unless you've just made a mistake (i.e. you didn't intend to put FF1 on the list at all), a short explanation might help "straighten some question marks out". And I'd appreciate if you'd handle your links like p_n did (company + source links). To both of you, if you can, try to find another (good) fansite or two to put in the links/sources list at the bottom (even if you didn't actually use them as sources). Thank you for your contributions to the project! If you want to write more bios, go ahead.

Maybe this is the moderator's job, I don't know, but Physchotic_Ninja - There is a number of things I'd like to point out about your contribution; 1. Is the character's name "Strider", "Hiryu", or "Strider Hiryu"? The name on top should be the character's name, not the name of the game he was in (unless they are both the same) 2. Please do not use images taken from other sites. Use the mascot images found on page 1 in this thread. 3. Please make links out of the URL:s, and the names of the games remixed, and the company name, so you can click them and end up at the URL / game remixes page / company website. 4. The bio text is full of tense changes and sentences lacking periods, making it difficult to read and enjoy. This also applies to the fact that detailed info is merged together with basic info in a most unsatisfying way. Try to leave out less important stuff like "It moved so fast, that everytime you swung the Cipher, it appeared as a crescent moon" and "...and it is said that no one is more skilled with a cipher. He fights like a fierce God, displaying the skills of an A-Rank Strider clearly, while remaining calm and collected." Not only is it overkill info that might be better off on a dedicated fansite for this character, but it also feels like something that was written to impress a 12-year old. The reaction the project aims to give the readers is something like "oh, so THAT's how it is..." rather than "Dude, awesome!" and to be an appetizer that includes links to the main dish (and perhaps not the dessert) rather than a full dinner. The links at the bottom are there not only for verification purposes, but also so that people who are really interested in finding out more about the character can do so without having to do the tedious work of finding a good fansite. Also, try to avoid things like "Yes, there was a NES Version of Strider, but it had nothing to do with the Arcade one" and try something like "There was also a NES version of Strider, but it was a whole new game rather than a port." This; "Hiryu did leave the Striders for a while, but this peaceful life didnt remain for long...As he was once pulled back in the dark world of the Striders" on the other hand, gives the reader too little info. I'm left with the questions "how?" and "why?" 6. Try to use a somewhat more structured... structure. First, introduce the character - who is he, what are his weapons and friends etc. Then, try to summarize the background behind the game without spoiling the entire storyline. I realize it's difficult, but I know you can to better than this.
-
None that I know of. In fact, I don't know who that (Strider Hiryu) is. Please go ahead, make me a bio. As a general rule, if you can't find the complete bio in this thread, the character isn't taken (save for Link and a few other more well-known characters).

Hm. Well, no progress in a long time, despite my attempts to get my sig image around the forums. Maybe I scared everyone off by having comments on the way the Mega Man bio was written. I'm working on a few bios myself but being the coordinator it feels kind of stupid to post bios I'm not very happy with myself. Yeah...
-
Yeah... better. But it's still too focused on little details like Roll and Bassanium - there's no mentioning of the more important elements of the Mega Man series, like the robot masters or Mega Man's rather unique ability to gain the powers of his slain enemies, nor who Dr. Wily is, and nothing about Mega Man X (yes, he'll have his own bio, but he should be mentioned somewhere in his younger brother's one, but not in his games list!) - and so on. You know what, just let it slide for a while. Mega Man is one of the more difficult characters to write about, because there's so much information and no knowing what to tell and what not to. Try another character, I'd especially appreciate one on a more obscure character that few people know anything about. Maybe you do! You mentioned Ness... or try to finish the Bomberman Bio that someone started a few pages back. Good luck!

You know, if you wanna help, just do it And if you know someone you think could write a good bio, ask them and tell them about the project. But thanks for the advice, Larry.
-
Thanks! Again, I can't stress this times enough, ALL bios are subject to moderation, so if it ends up being somewhat different from your original one, well... To be honest, your bio was a little too much about the game, and too little about Mega Man. There's 5 rows on the game and how successful it was and only one or two lines on who Mega Man really is. More story, more descriptions of the actual gameplay. It's also pretty short for being about such an important and well-known character. I had a Mega Man bio going on myself but I thought it wasn't good enough for posting... Anyway. Please edit it somewhat to fit the guidelines given here. It needn't be perfect, but it'd save us a lot of work if you only helped us a wee bit more in that direction. Thank you.

Go ahead.

We'll probably end up cutting away some of the unremixed games from the appearances lists eventually, but it's a good thing to have something to cut at. We'll deal with the finer details later, anyway. So far, so good. Thanks again.

Since most of my team seems to have deserted me, I guess you could take any one you want. I may be somewhat picky on a Zelda bio or such, however (for reasons mentioned a few pages ago). Other than that, pick anyone you like. I'd prefer to see some coverage on the less-commonly known characters, but for now, you can just dig and pick at will. Remember, we're in the collecting stage, and any submission is welcome. Just remember it's all subject to moderation etc. Post, post, post! ... Sweet sig, btw.

Fixed the game links to their remix pages. Not much, but still.
-
A glorious thanks to your contribution. Again, it doesn't really matter that the bio isn't perfect - I know mine isn't. We will moderate it to fit the model bio later on. It seems good enough for now. I added the game company link and year of "birth". I really don't have time to change the game names into links just yet.

I just read Blizihizake was interested in making a remix of the tal tal heights theme. I just wanted to tell you that I gave that same song a listen a few days ago and it reminded me so much of the music from "the good, the bad and the ugly". Maybe you don't see it, but that's what I saw. Anyway, if you run out of ideas or haven't come up with a better one already, please consider letting your mix take on the same style as the music from the movie mentioned above. You know, spanish guitars, a marching drum, some choir, and a trumpet in the lead. At least, give the movie music a listen and the idea a thought. Best of luck to you, and to the entire project.
-
Very comprehensive indeed. However, it's just what we need. Thanks for posting. Your submission is subject to moderation, but for now, and seeing no apparent guideline errors in your bio (except you forgot to add the year of creation on top) all I'll say is thanks Keep'em coming, everyone.
-
Er... yes. Especially since everyone on the team until now seem to have forgotten about something called school and are all now nibbling on our dedicated OCR hours to, in a sense, securing our economical future. Hm. Not to mention our genetical legacy. Anyway, yeah, I need more people to help me out, obviously. I'm very aware of the current situation and the need for a change. Being a coordinator, not to mention a mere project member, is proving to be more difficult than I thought. I need to get my daily schedule sorted out better. To anyone who reads this, ANYONE is welcome to post bios. My job, I still think, is to moderate those bios to fit a certain concept, not to single-handedly write every one of them. And at least two positions on the main team are open. Come and fetch.
-
Yeah. Fixed that. Thanks.

Ok, sorry for the long wait. Here comes an experimental character bio. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Obviously, if there's anything in here that's really WRONG, please tell me. Doom Trooper id Software 1993 Little is known about the Doom Trooper, especially for being the main character of one of the most widely known computer games series ever - Doom. *To be removed* The first game in the series was a 3D shooter released when PC gaming was considered a geek thing, and when 3D gaming was something most people had never even heard of. Its relatively massive amount of relatively realistic and raw depictions of violence and gore made parents and authorities furious when it was released in 1993, and it *new stuff* Most know him by little other than the sound of his voice, the smile on his face whenever he fires his gun, the blood under his nose when he starts to feel beat up, and the green of his spacesuit whenever a level has been completed. The series has been accused of being the source of inspiration for many violent acts over the past decade since the release of "Doom" in 1993. The game was a success, however, and a sequel was released only the following year. After a long wait of ten years, an acclaimed threequel, Doom 3, featuring a re-telling of the original story, was released. A marine transferred to a radioactive waste facility on Mars after assaulting a superior officer, the Doom trooper spent his days watching movies, until, one day, the inter-space gateways between Mars' moons started spitting out monsters into the bases there. Being part of the only military force on the planet, he was sent up to defend what he could - and that's where you come in. The Doom Trooper has found his niche in his own series and has only been found in one other place - in a secret area in Duke Nukem 3D. Quote: "Hgnn!" (or is that the quake grunt?) Sources used: Planet Doom MobyGames The Easter Egg Archive Selected games: PC: Doom (1993) Doom II (1994) Doom 3 (2004) LT Edit: Doom 2 is 1994; I'll fix that in the near future. Thanks. I know it's short, but there's really not that much else to write, I don't think. Not about this guy. Of course, if anyone wants to fill me in on important stuff that I've left out, or inform me about something in here that's not true, then go ahead.
-
Yeah, but those are all just games with Mario as the main character, right? He must have APPEARED in more games than that. lol Wow, you really worked hard on the bomberman thingy. Maybe we could have a link to your full list, but not have it printed out like that on the main bio page. Just so you haven't done all that work for nothing I mean.
-
This was the original idea, but then... Bomberman. And then I thought "Mario... hmm. ... ". So that's why I thought of not listing every single one. Mario... How many games has he been in, really? ... nevermind. We'll do without. But I still want all games with remixes on the lists, even if that character only shows up in an easter egg. Maybe that would be too difficult, but I'd want it. As for Rexy, go ahead. Anyone is allowed to make bios, but I will give you no guarantee that they will actually be used in the end. Also, if a character has been taken doesn't mean you're not allowed to help out. I just didn't want several people wasting their time on the same character independently. Initially, however, I'd prefer to see that the bios are being made by one person at a time. We'll get complicated later. If you want to know if a character has been taken, and don't feel like reading through the whole thread, just search for the characters name within the thread. Sonic hadn't been mentioned before you did, so he wasn't taken yet. Good luck. I still need to work on my Mega Man bio.
-
I'll do. Just to make sure it ends up being the way I want it to be. Honestly, I understand some of my instructions might be a little bit... unclear. I shall therefore as soon as possible post a bio that everyone can use as a reference (I was planning on a Mega Man one). Also, I and Surpreme Spleen have agreed that it might be a better idea to list only games that have remixes on the site instead of a full game list. Just because they're not on the list, however, doesn't mean we don't mention them.
-
First off, there's no need to claim 3 characters at once. Second, Link is already claimed, that picture is from LA or something, not WW, and I don't want a separate bio for each of the Zelda games, not even on the same page. Supreme Spleen, since you claimed Link first, it falls upon you to write a bio that connects the games by mentioning what the games' stories and plots have in common and what they do not. Notable exceptions and various examples are welcome. I really don't see the point in writing several paragraphs on how Link grew up in every single game in the series, nor do I want us to provide that. That is for specialized Link/Zelda/whatever fansites to provide. As for Bomberman, good job on looking up his every game! Does he really not appear in one single game that doesn't carry his name? Anyway, unless you've looked at a million sites to look all of those games up, I'd really want you to post url's to where you found the list info. And yes, that's what I want the list to look like, only when we're finished it'll be on the right hand side of the page. Also, I think it's be better if you sorted the games into consological groups, year of release for each game, etc. Like this: Console A (Console groups in Alphabetical order) Game 1 (YYYY) (Cronological order within console groups) Game 2 (YYYY) Console B Game 1 (YYYY) etc. Right now you have three "Bomberman"s after the other and 5 in total on the list and you have no idea which one is which. Also, make sure you're not listing both Japanese and American titles as separate games. When you're finished with your bio, please edit your own post instead of posting the bio somewhere else later. This will simplify our work, and is something I should write in the guidelines now that I think of it. Don't forget to look up links to good Bomberman fansites, and hopefully, some official bomberman/manufacturer site. The names of the manufacturers should then be links to their sites. EDIT: I have been thinking about the game lists. Maybe I'm just being stupid but it sort of feels like we'd be better off with list of games that are remixed than listing every single game a character's been in. Opinions?

There may be light in the other end of the tunnel, friends. I hope it will allow us to do the things I mentioned above. *hopes really throbbing-vein-on-forehead hard*
-
Well I'll be... thanks for the heads-up. And to HELLO. This is the kind of help I want. Start making bios and we'll consider it Yeah, I was trying to explain that to DarkeSword. I already mentioned I'd prefer having one thread per character, as you know, and each bio on a page that allows for more formatting and code than an ordinary forum post - like a html page within the forum post. Since there are threads containing over 1200 posts in the site projects forum, however, I don't think he's too bothered. If you can come up with a better solution than the current one, I'm all for it. It'd need to be accessible - but not editable - to everyone if it's to be very effective. This is partially why I wanted a team to work with instead of having just everyone posting stuff all over the place. I need help organizing this
