  1. My mind is a bit foggy on this one, so lets see.

The whole first section is the title theme. Yes, klubba's theme is in it, but it is definately the title theme (with lots of originality and variation)

    Second theme is ice.

Third theme is battle theme, then after it goes into some chords that brings the song back to the ice theme for a few seconds before finishing with some really annoying resonnant harp notes.

  2. I've put this off for like a year or something. Basically dave auto rejected this song based on its lack of affiliation to the original. I didn't really agree with the charge, so we discussed it and he said I should just FT it and let you guys decide. Obviously since starblast is my lord and savior I wont vote on it.

    Original: http://www.starblast.org/starsongs/omfgharrier.mp3

As far as I'm concerned, the entire original is in there and very well rearranged.

Issues with the song: rather short, weak ending. I wish it was much longer.

  3. What up.

I submitted a song back in mid-April. Thing is, I managed to forget to add the url to the mp3 in the submission email. So I get a reply from djp around early to mid-June telling me this and I reply to that email apologizing and giving the url. I've not seen anything of the submission since.

Perhaps sending that url by e-mail was a mistake. Guess that was equivelant of submitting all over again. Or maybe it got overlooked entirely. I dunno. Just figured I'd use a "fallthrough" on this one, since I consider it my best work yet (and I want to have the first KH remix on OCR if possible). :D

    So here we go again.

This is a Kingdom Hearts remix of the "Hollow Bastion" theme, with traces of the "Destati" theme as well. Of all my work so far, this is the remix I am most proud of. I tried to create a really epic sound with this track. At the time I began work on it, I was listening to a lot of SuperGreenX originals and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" OST, which may explain the genre blend a little bit.

Speaking of SGX, I need to give due credit to Mr. Adler for helping me to master this remix. Whatever he did, the remix sounded a heck of a lot cooler after he finished with it. So thank you, Sir GreenX, for your assistance.

Here's the tag info if it's needed.

    Title: Above the Rising Falls

    Artist: sephfire

    Game: Kingdom Hearts

    Year: 2004

Thanks a lot for this. If there's any problem, please let me know. Keep up the good work over there. :)

    etc, etc.

  4. Everyone's saying they compared w/ the original - are these claims just bogus? Or are they legit and simply still not enough? This was the more important part of his own response to comments that the mix was lacking arrangement. Is anyone up to refuting them specifically, or better yet, contacting him and getting more details?

Firstly, no one denied that there was variation in the song, but everyone agrees its not nearly enough.

Secondly, it doesn't much matter what the artist thinks.

Thirdly, have you heard the original? It would probably help you understand our points.

  5. A few off key notes either in the vocals or strings here and there. Still this song has a nice mood to it.

Lyrics really suck though. I'd like to see something more original for once.

Man, stuff like 1:40 is just completely off key.

Song goes up from there, but there are still so many notation problems.

    NO

  6. Very high quality samples. Interesting intro, though rather cookie cutter. Things get much better around 1:12. The real problem with this song is that it loops 4 times and then ends at 2 minutes.

Make it twice as long. Cool, but 4 loops isn't enough

    NO

  7. I've heard this before. Thought it was pretty creative. Issue then and now is lack of any real variation in this song. For the same reason we rejected crazy kracker, this gets a NO. Really nothing going on in the way of 'Remix'. Its basically a rythme to rap to.

Pisses me off to have to reject this. I really like the song. Definately something I'll keep.

  8. I wouldn't vote yes on a song due to the author's inability to make his samples sound good. There are many examples of great songs on this site that used shitty samples well. There are also many resources for free samples.

I hope we don't see any more of this kind of justification.

As for the song. Very cool intro. Then it gets into the main theme and doesn't stop for a while. During this session, theres just a lot of crappy arrangement, simple notation, annoying mastering, and really nothing special going on. Really liked that intro though. Nothing improves beyond that session. Its more of the same simplistic notation with some pretty elaborate, confusing transitions.

I can tell a lot of work went into the song. Would have sounded better played live by an orchestra, no doubt. Nevertheless, notation issues really bring this song down.

    Cool ending.

    NO

  9. Huge fan of the x series (1-3) NO for basically the same reasons as before.

    1. Parts like 2:23 are very VERY messy. Its kinda like putting one song over another and hoping they fit together. For anyone who doesn't view a song musically and only looks for melodies they recognize and a good 4/4, it wouldn't matter much, but I'm not one of them.

    2. Crappy crappy percussion.

    3. Lots and lots of repeating, no variation.

    Clearly below par to me.

  10. Wow, I didn't even vote on the song yet, and already DarkeSword knows what I'm going to say. Am I really that predidillyictable? :(

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT YOU CRAZY PERSON

    ...

    >_>

SORRY I GUESS I"M JUST BEING RETARDED.

This song gets a NO for 2 reasons.

    1. Discodan gave it a YES.

    2. Darkesword is awesome.

So anyway, this song is just amateur. Volume levels are all over the place. Pads are long and floody. No real attention is put on key, progression, transitions, or overall arrangement. Percussion is crazy and random. Frankly, the song is annoying, but the NO comes from the amateur arranging... and cause Darkesword is a fag.

  11. poorly recorded/mastered guitar. Bass sounds ok, but thats cause its not real. Chorus is just bad.

Ok this song is making me nauseous. I don't feel very good now.

Lots of delay and panning ideas done with the guitar, but not very well, and it doesn't add to the song. Bass is off key a lot.

Just a lot of general problems. Song is pretty moody, but if it played during the small world ride at disneyland, I probably would have wrenched my guts after some point.

    NO

  12. I like the original. Intro offers nothing.

Yea! It got into jazz. Percussion is so poorly mastered. Accompany is way too quiet. Soloing is decent. Nothing too special.

Drums continue to be poorly mastered in the wake of the 3rd minute.

Cool, rock. Or attempted rock at least.

Basically the whole thing needs a mastering overhaul.

Synth solo wasn't too well done at all.

Just a lot of rythmic, mastering, sequencing, and mastering messups from that point on. Did I mention mastering isn't that great? Guitarist is good, but not good enough to make these kinds of progressions work. And then theres the mastering...

Very very cool stuff. I just wish the recording/mastering/drum sequencing was up to par with the creativity. :(

    NO

  13. Heh, sequenced piano.

First problem, chords are really ugly.

Song is interesting and well arranged, but does not deviate from the left hand right hand system. In other words, stays pretty simple.

I love this original song. Can't say this does it justice. Just too messy. too simple.

    NO
