  1. I'm very impressed with the work done expanding the original here, without ever sounding repetitive. We get a lot of submissions of short tunes here and they usually struggle with this, but you managed to adapt and expand the source into a full-length arrangement that is expansive and detailed. Really, kudos. The production isn't perfect though. The lows are pretty prominent and they can get muddy at times. It also feels as if there was a filter on the whole arrangement because it lacks a bit of brightness. But, I think it's serviceable and coupled with the excellent re-arrangement, I think this makes it over the bar. YES
  2. I enjoyed the aesthetics がぁち here. It didn't sound much like vaporwave at first but after the bass and beat were introduced at 0:41 it started sounding like something from Floral Shoppe. It does have that feeling of being retro while sounding somewhat wrong. I think the atmosphere was thin at times, and I personally think this would be better if it had a smashed mastering (or at least, more truthful to the genre), but I think this works, and the adaptation of the original is clear. Overall, it was pretty creative of you to listen to the original and hear how it would lend well to a vaporwave remix. YES
  3. Very beautiful, warm synth work here. The dnb beat is really cool, tho I wished it evolved a bit more throughout the track. I don't really have any gripes with the production that would hold it back from posting, but the issue here is arrangement, which is really too close to the original. I don't think there were any substantial additions or transformations to be found here, so what I would like to hear is this beautiful and mesmerizing production used in an arrangement that has more of your own ideas into it. As it stands this is too close to a cover for posting. NO
  4. Very good production here, with tons of details in the performances, and some very interesting tempo switches. Now, the other Js are on the side of too little source usage here, but I'm going to disagree. At first glance, Rexy's count looks damning, but there's a lot of silence and tension release in those sections that aren't counted as "source" that shouldn't be counted, in my opinion. One example is right off the start when the intro hits, the tally doesn't count the first 6 seconds but that's not really fair since this is just a setup and the song really only starts in full after the initial percussion hits. I found that there are other cases where not counting some sections as source is kinda pointless so for me, this is good on source usage. The only section where the track clearly veers off the original is around the second minute, but this was a welcome change in my opinion, and also it's not long enough or feels disconnected enough from the source, and it also expanded the track in quite interesting ways as well. I am for seeing this on the front page, it think it evokes the originals throughout even in sections that are mostly new. YES

A tribute to Guild Wars 2: Super Adventure Box. Of course I had to be on it. So I took a look, and sure enough, nobody claimed the track I wanted to do, so I grabbed it. I wanted to really give it this epic orch-metal flair, largely to pay homage to Josh Foreman, the mastermind behind SAB. I think it turned out pretty well.

  7. Cutting right to the chase: I've done a chill-out style remix of Quiet Forest from Kirby 64, one of my all-time favorite OSTs. I've done music production for over 10 years, and figured I'd submit this current song to your website, just to see how you like it. Thank you for your time! 8. Hi all, Please find below my submission to OC ReMix and requested details. Contact info: ReMixer name: Ka0sph3re Real name: Fredrik Rojas userid: 35822 Submission Info Game: Super Mario Bros. 3 Arrangement: Hammer Bros. Hour Song: Hammer Bros. Battle Theme Composer: Koji Kondo Sound archives have album but not the song listed so link provided just in case. My comments. This is my first remix attempt so I went with a classic tune that I’ve know all my life, as a guitarist I decided to play to my strengths. Despite being a guitarist I really don’t think we need another guitar cover of a Mario tune. In light of this I tried to make more of a ´band´ sound with punchy dynamic drums and a fat bass guitar as the driving force. I wanted a live feel as well so I went for unpolished and playful live guitars and dynamic drums breaks. While not my initial intent I got the feel of a late night talk show band playing so I just went with the vibe and that’s the reason behind the title. I programmed the drums and bass in FL Studios and then exported to Reaper to record guitars and mix. I used the following: MT Power Drumkit 2 VST FL studios Boo bass through a guitar amp simulator. Famisynth II VST to double the bass. A Fender Strat through a Neural DPS amp simulator. Regards Fredrik

  10. I'm so happy to hear from Malcos again, one of my favorite artists here for sure, I'm a big fan of his original albums as well. This is a departure from what I know from Malcos, as this leans more into the movie soundtrack type of track. Even though Malcom did all the voices himself, they're stacked pretty convincingly. The original is also a capella, and Malcom expertly wove the cinematic orchestral elements and electric guitars into it and it just feels fitting. Articulations and performances are pretty good, and the production is clean and powerful. YES
  11. Hello OCR, This is Stephen Malcolm-Howell. aka Malcos. I'm one of the old school people lol. I haven't submitted in a while, but I'm back with an arrangement of one of the shanties from Assassins' Creed Odyssey, Poseidon God of the Sea: And my remix 'Poseidon at the Cinema': I hope I didn't disturb the neighbours too much with the singing! I recorded myself several times, layered and panned the vocals. Hope that this makes the cut, thanks for listening.

I used Renoise as a DAW. This remix was my contribution to an album prepared for 20th Anniversary of Jazz Jackrabbit to honour the game and the compositions by various Hungarian artists. The album was made of true respect and adoration from fans to fans, its link is here: https://jj20.bandcamp.com/ Greetings, ziona / Erika If this gets through, it will probably need a new title.

  15. ❤❤❤❤ This is a very long track, but I can keep things short since the issues I have are pretty straightforward. First is the vanilla samples and its usage. Stuff like strings, brasses and other instruments seem to be lacking articulation to say the least, and they come out as extremely artificial. Second, the mix sounds like it has a ton of highs, a lot of lows but not much when it comes to mid content. Things like brasses have a very sharp edge, which is something that can happen naturally in a performance, but it seems like every stab here is articulated to be as sharp as possible. Many other instruments have a piercing quality to them (i.e. the final synth is resonating so hard I had to just take my headphones off). Also, even tho there are lows, almost everything on that range sounds pretty muffled. I'm not huge on this arrangement either, as it seems too disconnected and I don't feel it's conveying much even though it has a very long runtime, but this is mostly subjective and not my main reason for rejection. Overall, too many issues in plain sight here for me to let this through. NO
  16. Artists: Sir_NutS, Sadorf Name of the games arranged: Final Fantasy 7 System: Playstation Name of the arrangement: With Heart And Soul Name of the individual songs arranged: Fighting! Link to Original Decision Source: Yes, this is a resub... from 2005. I won't go too much into the story of the original remix sub, as the original thread had all the details, but the tl:dr is that sadorf made a wip which he then gave to me and I built upon it for the track in the original sub. We used to do that a lot back in those days, sharing project files and complementing each other's style. Good times. Since the original rejection, I've always had a soft spot for this song and doing it justice has been on my mind since back then. I've tried several times in the past, with mixed results. The issue was I always tried to just do a sound upgrade and fix the many production issues that plagued this track and all of my work back then, without touching much of the arrangement. I've come to realize that I've grown a lot when it comes to arrangement, albeit not nearly as much as I would consider good, but just enough to also do a revision of the previous arrangement to make a more cohesive, interesting track to complement the other, more production-oriented skills I've acquired over the years. I also had to start from scratch since I created the original on Fruity loops 2 (!) and well that's not going to fly nowadays, and I lost the project file over a decade ago anyways. So I kept a lot of the original arrangement including most of the first section but I spiced things up in every single element, arrangement-wise. There's a 4/7 break mid-way through which can seem a bit jarring but the disjointed feel is what I was looking for, as some of Uematsu's FF songs have those types of non-sequitur. The track bounces between different rhythms but it's mostly a big beat/trance affair with some dream trance touches. There are a lot of melodic transformations here, but I assure you every melody line is derived directly from the source. In regards to production, I tried some new production techniques here that resulted in a slightly cleaner mix than usual, at least to my ears. Also I used Reason 11 in Bitwig extensively, and I can't tell you how happy I am that I am able to use my Reason tools again. Feels like home. As for Sadorf, we still speak but not too often nowadays, although we're still very good friends. I've done this with his approval, but he isn't able to work on any music right now. Still, a lot of this arrangement is his so that's why I want him credited. I hope this one is of your liking, and that it finally sees the front page. P.S.: if this one makes it through, please hold on to it until the release of FF7R early next year, as that would be more fitting
  17. A lot has been said on this one so I'm here to keep things short. I'm fine with the soundscape, it's supposed to be chill and minimalist so I'm not bothered by the lack of layers or complexity. I do have an issue with how static this arrangement feels. I know you've tried to introduce a break in the middle to change the dynamics but the issue is that even tho the bass changes here, not much else does. The same pads keep droning away and honestly the modulated, high-passed noise one really started to get on my nerves after this point. I was really digging this at the start but it got pretty stale quickly. That bass groove is awesome, but I think you need to shake things up more. Give us a break from the sweeping noise pad, bring in a different melody or progression. Honestly this is pretty close, it actually reminds me a lot of tracks we used to publish around 2005-2010, but I think this needs another pass. NO (resubmit)
  18. I quite enjoyed this, pretty warm ambience with all those filtered polysynth chords and bouncy bass. The minimal retro drumtkit and sequencing complements the other parts very well IMO. The overall mix feels a bit too wet and could be clearer but I think it works. The arrangement here isn't that transformative but the adaptation is. Melodies and progressions are kept almost verbatim from the original but the amount of melodic layers have been increased, and the arrangement isn't without its own original bits such as the call and response happening around the 3 minute mark. I enjoyed this one, it tickles my synthwave bone. It didn't blow me away and I think more could've been done with the arrangement but what we got is pretty solid. YES
  19. wow, I know this song by heart but I couldn't recognize it at all in your mix at first. After I checked what the source was, it's pretty clear the source is there in the first half. It's transformed but it's very clearly the original melody there so no source usage issues for me. The performance here is pretty lovely, and I have no issues with the production, so this is a short vote from me but I highly recommend this one if anyone wants to hear a very different adaptation of this theme, it will catch you off-guard at first but believe me, it's very clever in how it uses the theme. A lot of interesting movement here with the melodies too. Overall, pretty clever piece. YES
  20. This is a simple remix that just works. Simple arrangement and sound palette but used pretty well, the mix isn't perfect but not terrible either imo. Some of the synths kinda blend with each other but I can still distinguish the parts, and I find the track is fine EQ-wise. It definitely starts to get repetitive by the end but it knows when to wind down and end. Not every track needs complex arrangement or instrumentation, and this is a fun little ride. I'm ok with sending it to the front page. YES
  21. Pretty ambitious stuff here. Definitely one of Rebecca's best, as I have barely anything to nitpick here production-wise. The use of the female singer is awesome here, handled with a lot of subtlety and definitely a highlight of the arrangement. Another highlight with this one is how well the themes blended together. It doesn't sound like a cheap medley but like a complete song. Clean production and the levels on this one are alright, usually I have to turn my volume way up. I noticed the pops here, and this is the only thing holding this track back. I'm sure these aren't due to clipping as the track's peak don't reach near 0 db, so the issue is not a simple fix and would require some investigation. As such, I can't tag this as conditional. But this remix is also really good, so asking for a resub seems like a bit much for just fixing these pops. I don't think many people will notice but we don't pass judgement on whether the general public will notice issues with the tracks or not. I'll give this a bit more thought. EDIT: 10/06/2020 Well it took me some time but I'm listening again. I am still hearing those pops even tho on this listen I'm going purely by ear again without checking the timestamps provided in the thread. I think we need these revised, it's a noticeable technical flaw in my opinion. YES (Conditional on Fixing Pops)
  22. Hey, I think I've heard this OST before. I think you have some very neat ideas here with the transformations, structure changes and adaptation. 0:40 and 3:10 are interesting ways in which you transformed the original melodies, as an example. I think you're good on the arrangement front here, but you also need to cut down on repetition. More on that later. There are a few aspects holding back this one for me: the mix balance can be off at times, when you have an instrument panned to one side but nothing on the other side, it makes things feel lopsided. There's also the original melody used maybe one too many times. I would shorten this track to around 3 minutes to make it short and sweet and cut down on needless repetition. The mix can get very crowded and over compressed in sections like 1:47 and 3:10. Relax your master compression and let me mix breathe, it will be for the better. I would love to hear a refined version of this one, so hit us up again. NO (Resubmit)
  23. I've listened to this one already before. As always, Jorrith brings a very interesting pop take, this time with an 80's edge. The vocals by Fiddle are a bit dry and the singing isn't perfect, especially when trying to go to the edges of his range. I think a bit of extra correction in those cases would've made it better, as you can almost feel the strain on some of the higher sustained notes. Otherwise, the vocals work and so does the vocoding. The backing arrangement is basic and it just drives the sax and vocal melodies, but there's nothing wrong with that and just works in the track's favor to make it sound more authentic. I enjoyed the sax performance the most, very good stuff. YES
