  1. That leaves 3 tracks open then, take your pick nousentre. I'll send analoq a PM to see if he's interested in picking one up too.
  2. Larsec, it's a community project. You can give up one of those two tracks for another person and still mix the track yourself for fun if you have good ideas. Also, it's analoq, not analog.
  3. To start with, since we had to mix this track for PRC26 I'm quite familiar with it, but it's been long enough since then that I'm not sick of the track anymore. (Edit: Went back and had a listen to the PRC26 version. Thank you for cleaning this up so much, that version was just nasty. ) The mix just stays on the acceptable level right the way through. The thing I like about it is that it rarely repeats anything, constantly adding new ideas right the way through, in both the arrangement and the sampling. The beat gets a little repetative on that basic every second-beat snare hit. The other main issue for me is the dry sound of some of the samples used in the mix. The string hit sounds a little dry and basic for the overall sound of the mix. Other than that, the arrangement wins the gold turkey in this mix. The mario ending was surprising and I think fit in well with the sound of the mix. Ultimately it's up to the artist to decide on how they want to end their mix and this is perfectly acceptable. Nice mix, just a pity about those few sampling issues. YES
  4. There are 19 tracks and they're all filled. I thought Larsec had sent out PM invites to all the DSoP mixers? If not, I apologise. If anyone drops their track over the next few weeks, feel free to pick it up.
  5. That reminds me. A few of the tracks on the Doom 2 soundtrack are based heavily around certain rock songs, and it was decided not long ago that remixes of these tracks in particular won't be accepted onto OCR: Map07 - Shawn's got the shotgun - Dead Simple Slayer - South of Heaven Map10 - The Demon's Dead - Refueling Base Slayer - Mandatory Suicide Black Sabbath - Time Machine (Wayne's World Version) Map18 - Waiting for Romero to Play - The Courtyard Pantera - This Love Map23 - Bye Bye American Pie - Barrels O' Fun Alice in Chains - Them Bones Map25 - Adrian's Sleep - Bloodfalls Alice in Chains - Angry Chair So if you're planning on submitting to OCR and you've taken one of these tracks, you'll have to pass on it this time. Cubed777: I had a listen to your tracks, you have the dark sound we're after, and your arrangement is all right. But you'll need to show better sampling and mastering in the project. I've added your name next to the last track. Everyone: Since the tracklist is full now, I'll put the project on hold until January 1st and hopefully have a full update chewed over with Larsec by then, with the first WIP deadline and other plans for the project. Have a good think about the track(s) you've decided on over the Christmas break. If you decide you don't want the track anymore, then please drop it and inform us in this thread.
  6. Quite a few of the Remixes at doomworld are actually from OCR too. The guy that's in charge of updating that page posts here at OCR occasionally. There are still a couple of tracks left to fill. I've added Txai to the underhalls theme for now, and I'm still hoping that DJRedlight will pick a song soon. I'll probably leave the project here until after Christmas. Those of you who've picked tracks can start working on them if you want. However, I'll set up all the deadlines and such after Chrissy.
  7. Artists: Bladiator & TO Game: Chrono Trigger Remix Name: Tears of Contention Source: http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/spc/ct.rar - CT 3-03 At the Bottom of Night ReMix URL: All right. This piece was initially Bladiator's idea. He came to me one day and asked if I was interested in making a Chrono Trigger remix of "At the bottom of night". I liked the piece, so I told him it was worth a shot. He seemed to have quite a few ideas in mind and we went to work coinciding our styles and working out a format. After what took about 5 months, we finally finished it to our liking. Starting off with some reverbed piano, leading in to the Bozzy Drumset from Stylus, with Squidfont strings making the backing. When we build up, there's some nylon guitar strumming in there, low-end bassline and Atmosphere strings. The midsection is a combination of the squidfont strings, atmosphere strings and a squidfont Cello, before heading back into a final drum and piano section. Closing out with Bladiator's piano and the strings accompanying. Finishing on F Major was Karl's idea, and I think it worked out quite well.
  8. Even in a compliment, I dislike you. No problem. What does this have to do with anything though? I was talking about your piano music. He's saying that even when you're giving a compliment, you manage to be insulting.
  9. Man, this soundtrack has a Lifeforce Tenka sound to it. Love those deep synth chords in the "Nightmare" track. Anyway, onto the ReMix. The groove straight away is pretty cool. The style is pretty good, but it's obvious right away that the sounds are dull and need some better mixing. The drums have the right idea but they sound basic and dry. You could do with some better grooves backing those drums, and boosting them with some EQ and maybe a touch of light distortion to give them a powerdrive. The piece, as Larry said, is expansionist, which is good because the source is completely open-ended for this kind of remix, demonstrated by how good this one sounds. I have no real issues with the arrangement. Except that the choir chords in the background could probably afford to branch into different combinations of the same chords (ie: launching in a high octave accompaniment at some stages. Gives the mix an interesting spin while staying in the same key.) I'd also work on maybe building the mix up to a climax rather than just ending it at 2:55. Overall, good sounding mix, it just needs to be taken back and tweaked a little more to bring the sounds out and give it that really creative push over the finish line. I look forward to hearing this one after it's resubmitted. NO
  10. Never heard the source before, but I'm liking it a lot. Nice choice. Very 80's style intro to the mix. At least, until the drums come in. They're all right, but the bassline sounds like it's a little too punchy, making the bass of the mix sound quite muddy, at least initially. When the guitarsynth comes in, that sounds really nice. The sliding strings in the background are a very nice touch. The sounds are a little thing as Larry mentioned, but the way you've used them, very nice. Unfortunately after 1:12 the mix just... stopped. The drums are bashing away with a very basic sounding arrangement, the bassline plodding away by itself and the guitar occasionally pipes up. It really sounds like something else is missing in that section. All the way up until the guitar comes back in at 2:25. Even the transition to bringing the guitar back in is non-existent. The mix started out quite promising, but unfortunately it's just fallen away on the creativity. If you run out of ideas, you need to refine the mix and work on making each section interesting, rather than just flooding the mix with the same stuff for 4 and a half minutes. Still, the few ideas that were presented were nice to listen to, and this is pretty good quality stuff. Just need to push those creative skills a little further. NO
  11. Those beats certainly are good. Groove Bias shows its face. I'm loving the instrument choices in this first section. Good Bass, good synthsweeps in the background, interesting synth choices all around. The beats do sound a little heavy in places for the general quietness of the stuff working it's magic around it. I'm with Darkesword in really liking the first half of this mix. It's just so well put together and builds up it's complexity very subtley and professionally. The remix gets a little crazy after 2:00, it's like a drug trip or something. The second half of the mix works for me, it's like the remix has built itself up to a level of euphoria and now is just basking in the afterglow of such an excellent climax. Arrangement issues? Nah, none. This is great. Well done. YES
  12. As the newly departed Wingless said, this mix is suffering from some really bizarre instrument choices. It doesn't sound too bad to start with. The organ's playing the chords in particular sound nice. The drum beat is a problem though, it's just... there. It doesn't really add anything to the overall sound of the mix, doesn't build up, it's the same basic bland groove. The guitar (I think it's guitar) sounds really badly distorted, to a not enjoyable level, very dry and basic. The chants at 1:12 sounded out of key when compared to the rest of the mix. The piano around 2:00 was a nice touch. This is a step up from what I'm used to hearing from you, Snooper. The arrangement is a lot more complex and flowing. You're in the right direction in getting the sounds together. Keep it up. NO
  13. The source piece for this, much like most of the Earthbound soundtrack is very basic and strange. Enjoyable, but I can imagine how difficult this would be to remix. Right off the bat we're hit with a dry synth sound and over-reverbed xylophone sound. The synth bass sounds identical to the one in the source, and it doesn't really add anything new except for the percussion buildup over the top. The buildup doesn't even really lead anywhere, as at 1:06 you just drop a very strange and dry sounding synth sweep over the top and keep the percussion grooves going. The break at 1:40 was nice, but as with the rest of the piece, very simple. Bassline kicks back in at 1:55 with no changes. Percussion comes back in at 2:02, nothing new really added throughout the rest of the mix. I'd take zircon's advice and work with a soundtrack that's more melodic and simpler to remix than the earthbound soundtrack. At least until you work out a proper style that works with this soundtrack. NO
  14. I love the way you gave the string plucks that "Alien" sound in the build up to 1:06. The clock ticking was an interesting touch to bring in the orchestra. You can tell right away that this is really heavily reverbed. It sounds so far away and dull. You need to bring those instruments forward. As Darke said, different levels can give it an auditorium performance feel, while still keeping the up-front and direct feel in tact. I'm not sure what happened at 2:55 either, it sounds like you tried to do what zircon and Unknown did in their "WhenAllHopeHasFaded" Chrono Trigger mix, by bringing in a dance section, but it's failed miserably here. The reverb has flattened and muddled everything together into one big wall of sound. Nothing is clear. The beat sounds just awful. You really need to give this one a makeover in regards to the reverb. There's not much else to say after that. The arrangement was ok in sections, but it was sparse and all over the place in other sections. After such a promising intro, I have no idea what gave you the idea to turn it into a drowning-with-reverb dance mix. NO
  15. That intro is very basic and bland up until 0:45. When you finally introduce something it's just a couple of buzzy synths over the top of a basic sounding drumbeat, and a very thin lead playing the melody from 1:07. This entire mix is very thin and basic. As Vig pointed out, there are only a few instruments playing at any given time in the mix. You need to work on making your mixes a lot more complex and detailed than this, regardless of the source. Repetative is a nice way of putting it for this mix. NO
  16. Before I close this out, I want to emphasise what Larry said about this not being an entirely bad mix. I actually enjoyed it despite how close it is to the original. The sound quality is bars above what we normally hear, and in spite of how you got there, you do have an enjoyable sounding mix here. Unfortunately it's just against our site guidelines. NO
  17. This starts off as very nice stuff. I'm with Darke here in saying that the percussion is what's dragging this mix down. It sounds very blunt and out of place. You've set up a nice mood through the piece with the bass, E-Piano and steel drums. But the percussion sounds distorted and weirdly out of place. This is the kind of mix that I'd expect a nice soft reggae beat or island beat to, just some nice relaxing music. The arrangement is pretty good, you just have a bit of an identity crisis with the direction you're taking this mix. My advice would be to go back and work on bringing out that relaxing sound. You're on your way to the right direction, you just need to make a decision and turn left or right at that junction. With this kind of piece, it's all about the flow of the mix. Sound quality and style is very important in this direction. As Darke said, lots of potential here, resubmit it if you get the inspiration to work on it some more. NO
  18. Usually not a fan of Shna's stuff. No different to past submissions, this one is quite dissonant. But has a very enjoyable texture on the leads strewn throughout the mix. The pieced vocals were an interesting touch, makes the track sound like something from a science fiction movie based in the year 2450 with robots and flying cars everywhere. I'm willing to go with zircon in saying that this is a lot more refined than Shna's other stuff. While being weird, it remains to the normal and enjoyable side of weird. Some parts seemed to stray on for a little too long, namely the section from about 2:44 - 3:05, which felt like it was dragging out the same twisted idea instead of moving on. I'm not a fan of the drums in this, but there's nothing wrong with them quality-wise, and they don't detract from the overall melody and style of the mix too much. Whatever you brought in at 4:17 was most unexpected and very enjoyable, a nice break. No issues in closing this out with a fourth YES
  19. I'll have a chat with Larsec about a reasonable WIP date for the project once we fill up the remaining slots. Rexy, I've added you to map03 for now. Just let me know if you're certain about that one. I've heard enough of your stuff to know you're good at your music. But like I'm telling everyone else, you must be prepared to go with a dark and doomy sound for this project.
  20. I've heard plenty of your music, Chokster. However can you show me something of yours that would be dark sounding and a little more on the norm of music.
  21. I'm leaning strongly towards agreement with zircon on this one. This wasn't enjoyable at all to me. I don't think this even technically meets our standards. The drums are way over the top with the smash and crash loud sound. I don't know how we could reject other mixes for being muddy and loud and yet let this one pass. While it does have some creative ideas and the backing is creative, the drums just completely and utterly ruin any atmosphere in this. The arrangement in this is basic at best. It's ambient, so give it an ambient sound. Pasting layer upon layer of loud crashing percussion and drumwork over the top just makes the mix sound horrible and steals away the atmosphere you set up in the beginning. Whether it comes to personal taste or not, I feel that we've rejected things in the past over technical issues that had less issues than this piece does. Holding that standard up, this is as definate a NO as I could give.
  22. I'm not so much hearing much clicking through this. It sounds loud, but nothing unenjoyable. You have the tango sound down and it's very cool to hear it with dry guitar. As Larry said, the piece does feel empty. But I feel that it does it justice. It's not over-crowded, not trying to fill up space with redundant noises. Everything in the piece has a purpose and it all fits together well. Never even thinks about getting boring. Very enjoyable, and well worth a pass. If there is a major issue with clicking and crackling over the track, it might be worth requesting the artist to fix that, as JJT said. Loved the ending too, very creative. YES
  23. I'll get back to you, Txai. Need to clear it with Larsec. Reading through the comments on that mix, it sounds as though you've strayed quite far from the source, you'd need to be closer to the source for the project.

Much like that project, we'll be remixing all of the tracks from Doom 2 in various styles depending on the artists prerogative (There are 19 tracks.) We'd like to keep the theme to a "Dark" or more fitting "Doom" sound though. September 2007 update DQD is nearing completion. The majority of the tracks have been completed, with the rest being worked on. A few are remaining open so we're still welcoming new mixers. We'll be waiting until the FF7 project has been released before considering a release date for DQD. Plus we'd like to make sure that everything is taken care of properly, instead of releasing prematurely. We've waited this long, might as well do it right! Potential new mixers: As there are only a few tracks left, we're looking to fill them as soon as possible. If you're interested in an open track, just start a WIP and send it to me. If it sounds like what I'm after, I'll get you to finish it and add you to the list. NOTICE TO MIXERS Please do not make your tracks public during any stage in their development. This means no hosting at VGMix, soundclick or other public websites, and no posting the songs in this thread or any other. This is to keep the project classified and also more of a surprise to the future audiences upon the eventual release of the project. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ You can listen to the music files here: Doom 2 Music Archive - Right Click & Save As You can download the Doom SoundFX archive here: Doom 2 Sound FX Archive - Right Click & Save As ------------------------------ The Dark Side of Phobos was a great album, and we're looking to equal or even out-do the quality level of that album in creating this sister project. 25. You really need to fix that list, Compy. Sydney are on Daylight Savings Time. Just check the link you posted. It's summer in the southern hemisphere so a lot of places down here have DST now.
