  1. Diddy Kong Racing kind of sucks...it's not bad, but there are some really stupid touch features that are tacked on. Trying to get a turbo-start is nearly impossible if you're right handed. Online looks promising though, especially since there is no snaking.

  2. Have any of you played Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime? I have a friend who practically worships that game, but I don't really know anything about it.

Aside from Hunters, that might be my favorite DS game of last year. No online multiplayer really blows though.

  3. I'm not bashing it, but it definitely wasn't perfect, and to me not better than Goldeneye because of the constant framerate drops.

Perfect Dark. I rest my case.

Actually, I do see your point, but I just played with high-res off most of the time. Hell, Majora's Mask framerate was terrible, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a good game and, imo, much better than Ocarina.

  4. Figured I'd check if the news channel was up before I went to sleep and voila, there it is.

The interface is pretty cool. The hint cat from the Photo Channel is there as well.

On a rather interesting note, under the Technology section it has an article about the PS3 European launch date. Odd as it may be, it's nice to see the AP isn't forced to censor what goes on the channel.

  5. They really do need to get some sort of headset or at least a screen that surrounds the player. I don't buy into the whole "immersion" thing people like to tout when I'm staring at a flat screen. Always found it weird I can hear an arrow whiz past my head or a grenade explode behind me but I can turn around and see my cat staring at me all confused.

  6. After you get used to it, Elebits shouldn't give you any motion sickness. I *always* get it when I haven't played a console game in first-person perspective for a long time and then come back to it, but it goes away pretty quickly.

  7. WTF my local gamestop doesn't even know what Hotel Dusk is...

They don't even have the game in the system.

I really want to play it too.

I heard that most stores won't even get copies of the game. It's baffling why it isn't getting advertised more.

  8. They do not seem to drive sales over one other directly, but it's still a selling point. Do not take what I say out of context. Really.

Well first, I didn't take what you said out of context. You said games have always been about utilizing the latest in visual technology. That's a hell of a way to say "Well graphics aren't really the biggest selling point per se..."

Regardless...is it a selling point? Absolutely. Is the number of people who buy games based on the graphics (or at least, who take graphics into consideration) large enough to matter these days? Simply put, no.

Look at the PS3. Sales are slow, developers are looking elsewhere and the high price is scaring away potential buyers.

Had Sony followed their previous tactic and released an affordable, somewhat powerful system, the 360 and Wii would have probably already been crushed under the Playstation brand name alone. But they pushed graphics too hard, raised the price and it seems like nobody really cares, even if games like MGS4 and FF13 can't be had anywhere else. So let's not pretend that graphics matter as a selling point, because overall, they really don't. Ask Brain Age or any GTA game.

  9. I applaud their bravery in putting out a product that clearly and inarguably innovates, but with HDTVs becoming so much more prevalent, and graphics remaining (rightfully, in my opinion) one of the large draws for gaming, I think the approach will end up being a mistake in the long run.

I honestly don't think it will be a mistake. If anything, the dominance of the Playstation, Playstation 2 and DS have shown that system power simply does not translate into sales.

Personally, I wish the Wii was a little more powerful so games like Elebits wouldn't piss all over the framerate, but that's more of a CPU/bad programming issue I guess.

  10. User interface and the Wiimote and all that is simply a changing the way the game is played. It doesn't magically change the game itself as a genre. If you play a sports game or a fighting game or whatever type of game on the Wii with a new control scheme, that's fine and dandy, but that doesn't typically change the core gameplay.

Uh...Wii Sports has radically different "core gameplay" than any sports or even any video game I've ever played. As does Wario Ware. With those two games specifically, I really don't feel like I'm just playing a game anymore but doing something new. If you play games like DBZ or Zelda on the Wii (which imo really improves them), then yes, your point makes sense, but if you're trying to say that the Wiimote doesn't change some games that it has tried, then you're just being silly.

  11. That's not a stupid question. There are nineteen songs total; three of them are unlockable so you may not see them during an initial playthrough.

And two of the three were terrible. That was a real dissapointment.
