  1. Hmm, I think it would give the song a little bit of cheesiness, but try it out anyway, I say. It may actually be pretty cool.
  2. That's okay about what you said. It's awesome you're trying another song for the project! By the way, awesome remix, Rexy! It's cool to know there is another female remixer involved with this project.
  3. First off, you’re doin’ jazz so you really need some style here. Not meaning to sound harsh, but if you got no style (not you personally) you don’t have much. Jazz is something you gotta feel (and KungFuChicken!, for one, said he wasn’t feeling this track). Here are some tips for giving your song some style. - For groupings of eighth notes, accent notes on the upbeat. Meaning notes on the upbeat have a higher velocity than notes on the downbeat. Therefore, “ghost” the notes on the downbeat. “Ghost” means to play really soft, but with the same intensity. - A lot of jazz has pairs of eighth notes being played as a quarter + eighth triplet. If you’re kinda lost on that, the quarter + eighth triplet adds up to one beat and the eighth note is accented. Most likely (if not always) the eighth note is played short and tight, like a bite. - The bass usually changes notes every quarter note for movement of the song. - Possibly some small tom fills before the end of a section/phrase will add interest. I notice some, but they are so slight. I’m not saying have the drums shine (since this is just a smooth improv-ishy setting), but just let them have a little more fun. I hope these tips will help you out on improving this piece. It has a lot of potential and it’s mostly just style-challenged. On a side note, though, some people have a harder time with style than reading the actual music so I’m sorry if I made improving the style sound easy as it may not be for you. Oh, I can e-mail you a page of alto sax sheet music for learning purposes if you’d like. I’d like to collab with you on this, but I’m so busy with college, work and remixing Hydrocity. However, since you said you said you aren’t submitting this for the project, I can probably help you out if you want to work on it in the summer. Good luck! By the way, I’m somewhat worried how our version of Hydrocity will go so can you tell me when the next deadline is going to be, KungFuChicken!? Sorry for being impatient.
  4. Yeah, it's short and it is just the intro. Therefore, there will be much more to it. I plan to utilize my jazz band knowledge and (hopefully) create some jazzed up, funky stuff.
  5. Ah, feedback...and motivation! I'm glad you like it so far even though there isn't much. I'll see what I can do with the intro. That'll probably happen after we can come up with more of the arrangement, though.
  6. Well, I decided to post a little WIP of what Gman and I have come up with. I arranged about 95% of this and most of the instruments were picked by me. Gman beefed it up with Reason's new super-cool mastering devices. Yeah, it's short, but oh well. Some Hydrocity WIP - ftp://66.221.70.133/yoshi_84/SnKNikki%20[v0.5].mp3
  7. Hey, you don't need to apologize. It's all good. It seems like Gman and I are the ones getting in the way of you since we haven't produced a WIP (disregard that lame first one that was just by me back on page five or something) and since everyone loves yours. Who knows what's gonna happen, though.
  8. So you are challenging Gman and me, Red Tailed Fox? You got some pretty cool stuff goin' on in your mix. Though, the brass sounds fake and lifeless to me, but your percussion is sweet.
  9. Awesome work on the "Sky Sanctuary" tune, Kanjika. Personally, I love the reverb. It has a concert hall feel to it (whose reverb can be up to four seconds, actually). Can't wait to hear more!
  10. Yay to me and Joker! (Since we were like the only two that didn't have "YAY" next to our names.) Nice job on your WIP, Rayza. I think the lead synth sounds fine to me. A lot more "gentle" than how it was in your first WIP. Keep it up!
  11. That's okay. Eat your chicken soup and just get better!
  12. Hmm, that could possibly work for the ending of the song. I'll have to talk to Gman and see what he thinks.
  13. Quit yer cryin' man! I need your madskillz for Hydrocity!
  14. Well, I've decided to do a collab on the Hydrocity mix with Gman so can you add his name to the main post, sithlord-aku? Thank you!
  15. Well, after hours of trying to come up with something, I think I finally have. This is a very short WIP, but at least it's something. Very minimal mastering done, among other things. Tell me what ya think. Hydrocity WIP [v1] ftp://66.221.70.133/yoshi_84/Hydrocity%20WIP%20[v1].mp3 EDIT: General Slicer, awesome work on your WIP!
  16. Nice job on your WIPs, Siamey and Beatdrop! Now, let's see what I can do for Hydrocity. Hopefully a WIP will be up soon.
  17. Pretty cool stuff you got there. Love the percussion and the title! I gotta go to math in about ten minutes, which really sucks cause I've come up with a lot more ideas for my Hydrocity mix. Oy, the two hours won't go by quick enough! At least I got my Big Bad Voodoo Daddy CD to pop in my CD player for some inspiration while I'm cruisin' to the college.
  18. I hope I can! Act 2 is a tough song with a lot going on, but I plan on analyzing each part of a MIDI and get a real feel for what I want to do. I have some ideas, including some live jazz guitar so we'll just have to see. Good luck to all!
  19. *snatches Hydrocity* Yes, please put me down for that track, sithlord-aku. I'll be remixing act 2 of that zone. That particular song will be kinda tough, me thinks, but I'll see what I can do. Finals are in a week so hopefully I'll be able to produce a wip during spring break.
  20. I'd be up for remixing a track from Sonic 3 & Knuckles (perhaps Hydrocity Zone Act 2, which is my favorite). It'd be great if this project started rollin' in the summer (since I'd have time to actually commit), but that seems too soon. Well, who knows? Anyway, back to what this thread is about, Hedgehog Heaven! Nice job Richter! I'm glad you didn't let this project die. The remixers did a great job; this a very fun album to listen to.
  21. Yeah, forget the alcohol. Reason 3.0 is all you need for a 21st birthday!
  22. ftp://66.221.70.133/yoshi_84/test.mp3 *listen first* Let's see if I can try to explain this. What I'm trying to do is modulate just the effects (advanced reverb and phaser) of this cello. I don't want the cello's pitch to also be modulated so basically what I want is just that swishy sound of the effects and the constant pitches of the cello. Sorry, not the best explanation.
