  1. I really enjoy working with RTF, we're fans of each other and we both have Reason 3 as well, so it makes collaborations like this one lots of fun!
  2. Great idea - but please keep in mind that I'm British. These phrases really might not sound right in a strong British accent. And my fake USA accent is really quite bad. Good idea though.
  3. I actually really like the arrangement here. It reminds me of a retro club style. Unfortunately, not only is it clipping like mad, but it's the kick that is way too loud. The mixing of the instruments is really off. I think you need to get new/bigger speakers or something. Burn this track to cd and test it on some other sound systems and you'll see what I mean. The instrument levels are off. NO
  4. This is some very crisp production. The only issue I have with it that it takes toooo long to get to the main bit, then it's all over much too quickly. I think I will pass this, but if it is rejected overall for some reason, then get that snare in at least 30 seconds sooner. Like Paul Okenfold's 'Dread Rock'. YES
  5. I can hear where the mixer was coming from here. There are, however, quite a few issues here. First of all the arrangement, while rhythmically different from the original, didn't add anything new as such, until 1.33 when another synth comes in and adds some questionable harmonies. This new synth also sometimes clashes/is too similar to the synth that played the original melody before it. I like the mix in some ways, but this isn't for OC. Perhaps some more recent stuff? I'm sure 5 years has made a significant difference. But anyways, for this mix NO
  6. The thing that hit me first is the bone dry drums with no reverb on them at all. Kind of takes away from the live feel that the remixer was trying to emulate. Some very enjoyable steel pan sections in here, and I like the bassline. That part at 4.19 sounds quite distorted/is clipping. Happens again at 5.01 when those chords come in. At around the 5.42 mark the beat changes to a rather awkward one that spoils the feel, and the mix itself cuts off at the end. I think this needs some more work. NO
  7. This doesn't meet the (quite high, I must say) OC standard for solo piano ReMixes. I thought that this interpretation was quite simplistic overall. I think that as the melody we all know very well was playing, some more expressive left hand playing could have been going along with it to give it a different feel. As it is it felt quite unoriginal due to the lack of movement at times and quite empty. From 3.40 onwards things did start to sound a lot better, however I do think that overall the arrangement lacks 'flow', for want of a better word. NO
  8. Ok I'm definitely going ahead with this, I'm aiming to finish by the end of august - I'm also going to take the oppotunity to redo my website at the same time. Here's what I'm planning to include: * Mouthkits * Mouthkitloops/Beatboxing loops * Mouth fx (yawning/coughing/sneezing?/sighing, human roar etc) * Vocal one word hits ('Looove' 'yeah' etc) * Singing phrases * English phrases * Ohh/ahh/boam/Whistling instruments * Alphabet * Counting (spoken) * Combinator patches (combining vocal patches and FX) I'm going to release as a refill and I'm going to try to release as a soundfont as well, and possibly in wav format, although I'm still in 2 minds about that. I know it's quite an ambitious project! I'll do my very best. If anyone has any ideas, things that they would specifically like me to include, just let me know via pm or email.
  9. Yeah brass sample isn't exactly the best I've heard, but this arrangement is very enjoyable indeed. I particularly like the guitar/strings section at 1.04. Arrangement wins. YES
  10. I like the arrangement of this, you've blended the tunes together very well! For me the biggest issue is the sound design and texture. There are so many background synths and apreggiators and stuff going on that the mix feels swamped and over loud. The texture gets better as the mix moves on, but especially in the first half of the mix, it's way too much. In addition, some more original elements added such as your own interpretation of each melody just before it blends into the next one would put this mix up a level. The ending was quite disappointing, the fade out wasn't truly complete before the song cut off. I would definitely like to see a resub of this, with a more balanced eq (tooo much treble, due to too many synths), and some original melody lines. NO (Please refine and resub)
  11. I see what has been done with this - not much. I did the way you did the stutter effect thing, but as you know from frequenting OCR, the submissions we accept have to be more interpretative. Nothing to add really to what has already been said. NO
  12. Don't forget that in Reason, you click on what you want to apply the effect to, THEN go to the create menu. So you click on the redrum device, then go to create reverb. Get a keyboard lol. Or Fruityloops? Now you're just being lazy, learn to use google. I did. http://www.analogx.com/CONTENTS/download/audio/taptempo.htm Ok let's say you loaded up a rex loop that you like. Go to the sequencer and make sure that you highlight that rex track before you put that loop to the track. You see? Reason cannot read your mind - you have to tell it where you want things to go. Ok now you have to experiment more with the program.
  13. Wow damn. The problem is most definitely your soundcard man - you need to get a new one! Looking at the rest of your specs, your soundcard isn't quite up to par.
  14. That sounds very annoying indeed. Perhaps you could try increasing/decreasing the latency settings and see if it makes any difference. What's your soundcard?
  15. The thing is, it would be soooo much easier for me to do a refill than a soundfont. Although I do realise that a soundfont would make it much more accessible to those who use products other than Reason...
  16. Weeeeeelll I got an emu0404 recently and got Sonar LE bundled with it! If you can get that, it might kill 2 birds with one stone.
  17. In light of me not being able to find any free vocal refills out there, I'm gonna do one lol. I'm thinking of including: * Beatboxing/Mouth Drumkits/Mouthkits * Mouth fx (yawning/coughing/sneezing?/sighing etc) * Vocal one word hits * Singing phrases * Ohh/ahh instruments * Combinator patches (combining vocal patches and FX) Anything you guys think I need to consider? Any more ideas of things to include?
  18. Damn this sounds good - 100% professional. I agree with Liontamer that this wasn't your full skill, you are holding back - the way you ended the mix convinces me of that. Resubmit a longer version with more original elements and I'll definitely give this a yes. But as it stands for now NO
  19. I'm seriously liking those phat drum sounds man. Great job on the low end too, overall this has a great sound. Unfortunately I think that the arrangement was somewhat underdeveloped, and it could have done with a slightly thicker texture (rhythm guitar perhaps?), something to fill out the mids a bit more. I'd definitely like to see this resubmitted. NO(Please refine and resubmit)
  20. Thanks to the Remixer for providing links to the source. The arrangement of the mix is quite good; I like the slow middle section, and the way it changed the feel of the mix. The main issue I have with this mix is the sound design and production. Some of the synths/beats sounded quite fruityloopish and very cliche, particularly the bass synth. I feel this needs some more work. NO(Please refine/resub)
  21. Looking for spoken or singing phrases. Anything hip-hop related will do. I'm looking for phrases that have some meaning to them other than things just like 'drop the beat' etc. I like the "I'll break your walls if they wanna be broken" line, as it's quite lengthy and can be taken in several contexts. I'm not sure that you're allowed to send me them though, as they come from another program and you're not allowed to re-distribute. Thanks for the offer, but I think I better leave it.
  22. Firstly, when you preview the Rex loop in the browser, it has a number before it. That value is the tempo. Reason is set to a tempo of 120 be default, therefore if you preview a 160bpm loop in the browser then load it into your 120bpm sequencer, it will play slower. You will need to increase the tempo in your sequencer to hear it at the correct speed. Firstly, go to the sequencer window and make sure that the Rex is highlighted. Then go to the Rex machine in the rack and press the 'to track' button next to the preview button. Now it's on the track and will change tempo with the sequencer tempo. Have you got a keyboard? Otherwise reason is not easy to use at all! Make sure that in the sequencer, you click on the instrument you want to play. A red circle should appear as you highlight each instrument. Make sure you click on the keyboard symbol to the left of that circle symbol. That is how Reason knows what instrument you want to play at that particular time with your keyboard. How long have you used Reason? I'm assuming you just got it. Keep playing around with it, there's stuff that I'm just discovering even though I've used it for 5 years! And you might want to read the manual too.
  23. Thanks for the responses guys - I can see this stuff isn't easy to come by for free, looks like I'll have to spend some money.
  24. Anyone know of a site where I can download free vocal hits/phrases/samples? I'm working on an instrumental album at the moment, and I'd like some 100% copyright free stuff.
  25. Of course you can rip wavs and put them into Reason. It can't import mp3 files though. In order to trim your samples nicely before they can be imported into Reason, you might like to get audacity, http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ which is a free wav editor (it's very good!), and to convert files from mp3/wav and vice versa, check out freerip mp3 http://www.mgshareware.com/frmmain.shtml You can use either of the samplers in Reason to import the wav file once you're ready.
