  1. I was excited about FF3 DS until I found its going to be $40. Won't be buying it until it goes <=$35 Screw you Square-Enix. If anyone sees somewhere online selling it for an ACCEPTABLE high-profile DS game price, let me know.

After FF12, FF3 is going to be the most boring RPG I'd ever play.

I was on the fence about passing on it for a while, but now I'm certain that missing FF3 will be no loss at all.

Any reason why? Besides predisposition against FF in general?

I guess my original statement is worded wrong.

Because of PLAYING FF12, FF3 is going to be the most boring RPG I'd ever play. I'm just so done with the tediousness of random battles and strictly turn-based combat systems.

  3. Anyone hear anything about CHILDREN OF MANA?!?!?!

It's a button-mashing dungeon romp. Good for what it is (especially good in multiplayer), but those expecting the next Secret of Mana are in for a huge disapoointment.

  4. So, let's go back to OLD games for a second. I saw a copy of Trace Memory and read the back of it, and it seems like the story is pretty interesting. Is it worth a pick up? Also are there any other oldies out there that would warrant a search for?

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a classic-feeling point and click adventure game from the 3rd person. Only knock on it is that it's on the short side (less than 10 hours), but the plot is good. If you end up liking it, check out Touch Detective, too. They're very similar.

  5. What is the DS Lite's shell made out of anyway? This stuff seems immune to any type of scratch at all. I mean, I'd figured by now from rubbing my shirt to get rid of smudge marks would have made a few by now.

What is your shirt made out of, chain mail?

  6. OMG. People would get into lengthy discussions about whether FF4 on the GBA had Something Awful references and all that shit.

    References happen.

I don't visit SA, so I guess I missed out on that ;P

    goons4.gif

The rumor is that the translator is a Goon. And some Square-Enix nut jobs argued that their game is too hallow ground for a harmless reference. The flamewars that ensued was just ridiculous.

That's an actual expression. The website wasn't the first place those words were put together.

  7. On to the second case in Touch Detectives. It's holding my interest very well.

I just finished Part 1 of the first case. The game reminds me of the investigation parts of Phoenix Wright (in that you ask questions to the various characters while traveling around town, picking up clues, etc.) and the adventure/puzzle elements of Trace Memory. So far I haven't had much problem with the puzzle logic, and the writing is very very well done (I expected nothing less from Atlus). Some really humorous dialogue, and on top of that, the game is just so damn CUTE.

I can definitely see adventure game fans liking this.

  8. I know it might be good, but that doesn't stop the fact that I can't play this type of game to save my life. In fact, I can't play sports sims at all unless it's with cars. :?

I would hardly classify the Tony Hawk games as sports "sims".

  9. Yes, it can't be possible that a Tony Hawk game got a good rating because Tony Hawk games are notorious for being un-fun.

Do I even need to tag this with /sarcasm?

I wasn't referring to that. I was referring to Rexy's post about the new Crash game.

    Context.

  10. You win.

(Though if you liked Skies of Arcadia, you should like Dragon Quest VIII. They share a lot of similarities, and in some cases, DQ8 is better.)

    Whoot! Do I get a prize? 8D

I have heard about that a lot. But art direction from Mr. Toriyama makes me cry. DBZ type art was the only bad thing about Chrono Trigger. But looking at the screenshots again, it might be bearable. Hmmmmm...

Well, if you like the aspect of exploration of SoA, DQ8 has it in spades. If you like an enormous overworld with vastly different locales, DQ8 has that as well. And if you like great characters, heart, and different transportation methods, DQ8 will satisfy.

Anything from SoA that I forgot that you might wanna know?

  11. I don't think I've seen anyone talk about it, but anyone getting Magical Starsign? It looks pretty good.

    I've totally mentioned it once.

I dunno... after Skies of Arcadia, I don't really see how I can play an RPG that isn't a disappointment in comparison. After all, how can you top Air Pirates?

The answer is, you can't. You just can't.

    You win.

  12. So am I just bad at LostMagic, or does it really suck as much as I think it does?

I read a lot of reviews that marked LostMagic as poor.

I looks like the controls were a good concept but they completely screwed it up.

    Man, it looked interesting too.

    DS needs more RPGs

Repeat after me: Zelda, Phantom of the Hourglass. Zelda, Phantom of the Hourglass.

Actually, there are good RPGs coming our way soon. I hear good thing about Magical Starsign whatever, although I haven't read much about it. And of course there's FF3. And Contact.. er, is that out already?

I don't consider Zelda games to be RPGs. They're action/adventures.

Contact is out. FF3 is out in November. Magical Starsign is October 24.

  13. Hmmm, Contact feels like a sleeper hit. I'm reading about it on Wikipedia and it looks nifty.

How does it play anyway? Kinda like Secret of Mana but with touch for menues, or is it touch centered?

It plays like an MMORPG in that you can see all the enemies on the field and when you go into battle, you only have control over skills and whatnot. Terry attacks automatically, and keeps attacking, until the battle is over. You can interuppt him by using the aforementioned skills and items and whatnot.

The localization is great; lots of humor and whatnot, graphics are interesting: the screens are different. One shows Terry in a more "realistic" looking world while the other shows the professor in all his 16-bit sprite glory. The professor talks to you, the player, and gives you tasks, and then you turn around and guide Terry through his world to achieve those tasks.

    EDIT- Also, it's only $28.88 at Outpost.com

  14. So when does Phantom Hourglass come out anyone? (And Castlevania)

    Q1 2007

Upcoming releases everyone should keep their eye on:

    October 17- Contact

    October 19- Konductra

October 24- Touch Detective, Magical Starsign

    October 31- Children of Mana

    November 6- Elite Beat Agents

November 14- Yoshi's Island DS, Final Fantasy 3

Also, Fry's Electronics is having a huge sale this week only (ends on the 17th): Clubhouse Games is only $24.99 and Nintendogs Dalmation Edition is only $23.99.

Toys R Us is having a sale from the 23rd to the 29th in which all games are under a buy 2 get 1 free policy (counts for any system and as far as I understand you can mix and match systems)

And also speaking of Clubhouse Games, is anyone playing it? It's a great timekiller.

  15. Nobody is buying Clubhouse Games? Come on people!

I had like 40-50 people on my Hunters friend list and only 5 on Clubhouse Games :(

I'd buy it if I had the money, seriously. I get paid Friday so we'll see.

    It's only $24.99 at Fry's Electronics.

    Win.
