  1. You should and if you ever get the chance, try IN-N-OUT as well. Heard both are regard as the best possible burgers from a chain in the United States of America. Even heard some people are arguing either one or the other is better due to the "east coast vs. west coast" thing.

5 Guys from the East, IN-N-OUT from the West.

In-n-Out can't really be the best burger food chain if they don't have them in my town 8)8-)

(I used 2 cool smilies cuz there are 2 in the post editor)

  2. So I took it apart, by following instructions on how to remove the top case part. Some small screws held on real tight but, eventually I got them all out.

While I was at it, I cleaned the insides with compressed air and took out the bad keys, cleaned that and popped them back in. After re-assembling the whole thing I'm still having problems with those keys. The only option would be to buy a replacement keyboard/top case. Since I know how to remove one now, I'll just spare the roughly $100 for the labor at the Apple store and buy one myself on eBay.

  3. Awesome, I like the groove. It has a lot of big overarching elements like the pads but a lot of little details that make the arrangement shine.

Also, despite it being ambient sounding, the percussion makes it sound more like a chilled-out dubstep/funky kind of mix. It makes you move and bounce despite the whole laid back feel of the track.

  4. I like these drums, especially the snare. Personally they fit the style you're going for.

Keep the source in 3/4 time. It is possible to do the percussion in that time signature and keep it dubstep. The percussion is not following on step to the source and hitting the snare every 3rd beat out of 4. Change the pattern to six beats and make the snare hit on the 4th. Listen to this for an example, it's the only real 3/4 dubstep I know of.

As opposed to E-Bison's comment, not all dubstep has to be harsh and with intense drops. There's plenty of chilled out dubstep like the link I posted.

  5. For breakbeat & DnB stuff... genre-specific sample packs are fine, but I would also recommend breaking out for some more creative beats. Like, use drum packs made for house music on DnB.

Ghost hits are also very very important for a lot of DnB. Most of the unused 16th notes are filled with some kind of hi hat beat, and maybe a shaker for accent. Vary your hi hats by velocity/attack, and also slightly by pitch. It makes all the difference by making a naked DnB beat sound more pleasant to listen to.

  6. FOR SALE:

    :::PSP:::

PSP-1000 original Japanese w/box and accessories $80 plus shipping. [CC Ricers]

Owned since December 2004, great condition, some scratches on the front. Missing the top of the nub but you can still use it. I bought an extra nub in case you want to replace it.

  7. Rappers, particularly ones like those listed above, cannot put themselves in chains. They cannot stop promoting a gangster culture that things it's not only ok, but satisfactory to do or sell copious amounts of drugs and kill other people, sometimes for as little as having better lyrics than you. If they can't put themselves in the chains, I'm afraid it's up to the rest of us to do it for them.

News flash- music on the radio more often than not try to sell you a fantasy, not a reality. Because the reality is too dull for record companies to catch a lot of people's attention. The problem lies in misguided people thinking that the fantasy is real, and usually, very attainable.

  8. I've listened to the older versions and wow, this sounds awesome. Very nice arrangement.

The bass in the background, when it's exposed in the less busy parts, is causing some weird buzzing in my headphones. I don't think it's necessarily frequency clashes with other instruments but it could be a need of frequency band cut somewhere.

By the way I really like that low pass filter.

  9. A while back I shared Beatdrop's avatar but I changed it to one of my favorite fight game characters.

Rozovian I see as mostly serious and reserved, as his avatar portraits are either faceless or partially covered.

I hardly use signature images with my username in them, ever don't know if that makes me less or more of an individual in some people's eyes. I just find it redundant to put names on them.

  10. Frequent cussing is a sign of lazy lyrics but if the lyrics aren't intended to be very meaningful or clever, then there's no problem. Not everyone is trying to be a lyrical genius for hip hop. Oftentimes the music just serves a utilitarian purpose, to make people dance and move their ass.

Believe it or not, the majority of people are not music aficionados like the most of us. For most people, music is just an excuse to pass time quickly and make more bonding experiences with friends. They are there for drinking moments, dancing moments, or just general moments to make you feel awesome for some reason (mostly where image plays a bigger role than the actual music). It is why some drunken idiots request hip hop or pop to the DJ on a trance night. Artistic integrity and complexity takes a backseat to those things.

Like vagrance says, art shouldn't need a commentary...it can just be there to make you say "ooh, ahh" and form your own thoughts that the artist had no specifics on.

  11. Cool, I didn't expect some brief positive reviews right off the bat.

I made a slight update to the mix. Claps are added to every beat in the bridge sections, it sounded better than just a kick-snare IMO. Taking DrDisaster and Anti-Syne's advice I replaced a lead for the main melody starting at 0:41 with something more bright, and personalized the melody a bit.

A new short section has been added, the sounds here are mostly a concept and aren't set in stone.

  12. I STILL want to finish this shit, I really sliced the shit outta those drums too.

Vagrance, let's finish this shit. We have the technology. The latest FL project file got deleted, and all I could were some projects with less organized mix of sounds. But I did export the instrument parts out as individual wav files and tried to reassemble them in Ableton Live Lite. That was just lost for so long but I just found it again, and really it should just be an hour or two of work to finish those drums.

Hopefully it can hold up to Detuned Logic's remix that was posted last year.

I remember hearing (& commenting) on this back when I first joined the forums here. Always wondered what happened to it after it was rejected. Thanks for sharing, though I'd still really like to hear it properly finished :/

The version we submitted to the judges panel was plauged with clipping problems, especially after the first big drop. This one got fixed but we were still patching up.

Chrono Trigger - Secret of the Forest. OLD drum & bass collab with The Vagrance. Sent a finished one to the judges, but it was held back due to production issues.

The following one is an improved version that didn't quite get finished (you can notice it around the last minute)

  14. So I came up with this in two days. While I was messing around with some drum loops, I've decided to take a shot at bhangra, a genre I never attempted before. Thought I'd try something I'm not used to. It sounds like it would fit the source well.

Nearly all the instruments apart from the drums are synth sounds. Suggestions for new instruments? Sound processing? General improvements?

  15. Ha! I came to OCR in 2002, got a remix up not long after, clung to the "OC ReMix Artist" badge like an ancient religious artifact, and haven't been bothered to submit anything for years for fear of rejection.

I've seen you around. Is your fear of rejection mostly because you'd have to wait a long time to hear anything back? Seriously, the 6-8 month waiting period makes it hard for me to find any remixes I have that I find worth waiting for.

  16. One day when my keyboard of my white Macbook got a bit dirty with food stains, I decided out of my sheer genius to scrub it with dish soap on a rag. Afterwards some of the keys on the keyboard started acting funky.

The Command and 'v' keys now behave, interestingly, as if they're linked together. Pressing either just Command or 'v' makes the computer go command+v, in other words the paste function. I actually have the letter 'v' in its clipboard most of the time so I can keep on typing. It's a real pain in the ass to keep copy-pasting stuff and going back to typing. Also, the right square bracket key doesn't work.

My Macbook is a late 2008 model, refurbished and no Apple Care bought for it.

I think some of the soap liquid actually got settled in there and made some parts on the inside sticky. Removing just the keys doesn't seem to help me get to the source of the problem. Do I need a total replacement of the keyboard? If so, is it as simple as slipping out the old keyboard/PCB into a connector ribbon slot and putting the new one in?
