  1. Earlier tonight, I spoke with Arek and proposed several format changes for FGT5 and beyond, to help move things along. Arek was keen on a lot of these, and I think that the timeframes are very acceptable. The key change is in the Finals: The bracket is replaced with a deadlined round-robin. This keeps the tournament from stalling, and solves my "2nd place winner" problem. OPEN ROUND: Single Round-Robin. Playing time will be 16~17 days. Registration will end 72 hours before the playing deadline. ADVANCING: From the top of the table, the square root of twice the number of registered players will advance to the Final Round. 3 finalists = 5-6 players 4 finalists = 7-10 players 5 finalists = 11-15 players 6 finalists = 16-21 players 7 finalists = 22-28 players FINAL ROUND: Single Round-Robin (no longer a bracket). Playing time will be 7 days. First tiebreaker is Open Round Ranking. POINTS: I am considering several ideas for a points system, as well as implementing drawn matches as a way to shake up the table significantly. I haven't mentioned this to Arek or EasyP yet as I'm still trying to figure out how long it would take to work on certain games, but the impetus for this was when I played Arek - I swear neither of us would have gotten a 2-point lead on the other in the two matches we played, and I would have certainly taken the draws.
  2. Since we really don't have a set "championship" going on, I have no problems altering the league format starting next week. The goal for me is to make things a little simpler and more hands-off. The control I have in scheduling matches is too much to make a fair decision, so I will be doing something similar to - but not the same as - the round-robin tournament ideas that are running around nowadays.
  3. Just get it done before I set a deadline. If we don't have a final matchup by this weekend I will be pissed.
  4. I got a flukey win in a realatively short halfmatch game where Nemo had the upper hand until the last three moves, and a breakdown on my end went my way. I got my rook to uncover a target spot behind the kingside castle and he just didn't see it in time. Great game Nemo
  5. krnboi advances on a forfeiture by solo
  6. I've moved the scoring to 5-3-1 for two reasons: 1) Losing every game OR winning only halfgames will only get you 20% of your maximum score. 2) 3-2-1 is a little too loss-heavy of a system - I think this is just a little tweak that helps out quite a bit. Bypass: If you cannot find your own scheduled opponent, you may play their OTHER opponent, bypassing them completely (you can also bypass those players until you violate some other rule). Those games will only be validated at the end of the week.
  7. Californians don't care. San Joseans don't care. I'm too busy doing my radio show or going to the beach. Life's too short to go to a stuffy concert hall instead of the beach. Maybe if this was part of Free Concerts at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
  8. I haven't got the scores updated yet but there's only one game played, so I have 5 points and dP has 1. The bypass rule is in effect this time around, and I'd rather use that than reports.
  9. Imagine the longest round 9 ever. OMG crazy. Btw he had a 4-2 lead on me, so it took me 6 rounds to comeback
  10. The match rules for the playoffs are all the same by the way.
  11. Epic can't read this, but the other reason I want 8-man playoffs: I would have gotten a second chance. Arek 3-2 kamoh in a VERY VERY tight match that went down to the wire - we even replayed the last round because there was a lag issue when we had 10% health left each.
  12. As much as I love Ken, he got old after a while. The above is pwn
  13. Best 3/5. Just like the round-robin. Winner picks next game
  14. btw the round robin ends tomorrow night.
  15. I won't be taking any more signups past tonight @ 11:59 Eastern Time. This means that Gollgagh, you're in, but you need to show up on AIM to get any points. The round-robin phase ends on May 4th, regardless of whether or not you play. There will be six finalists, and I am suspending the rule that keeps dP from winning for now.
  16. Alright alright fun kids Play your assigned opponents twice (once as white, once as black). Use 10/15 clocks. You may play one game unscheduled (called a halfmatch). Decide on a color with your opponent. Wins = 5 points, Draws = 3 points, Losses = 1 point. Losses will only account for up to 20% of the maximum score. Halfmatches will only account for up to 20% of the maximum score.
  17. Yeah...I've just been waiting for you to get on AIM.
