  1. Unless I'm mistaken, that guy just defended sexual harassment by saying that's just the way it is. For the sake of my sanity, please tell me I'm mistaken, somehow, because that was just... ugh. I can see defending cursing on a game like that, but really, making gender based insults? That's just fucked up. :whatevaa:

    That's exactly what he said.

  2. Question about Rule #1:

If you accidentally defeat the first Pokemon you encounter in an area, are you allowed to catch the next one of that type you encounter? Or did you totally blow your chance and have to leave that area empty-handed? Also, what defines an "area"?

(I haven't played a Pokemon game since the original Blue, and that was at release.)

If you defeat or run from the first one you encounter, you blew it.

The newer Pokemon games make it easy to define an 'area', each time you enter a new one, a nameplate pops up telling you the name of it. For Red/Blue, well, it's any area with a different name on your town map.

Some areas, you have to make your own judgement calls on. Some people see a cave as one large area, and some see each floor as an area.

  3. I've done Nuzlocke mode on all gen 1-3 games. I've found the original gen 1 being the easiest by far and the gen 1 remakes being the most difficult.

That's interesting. Why is the original gen the easiest?

I would assume it would be the hardest, given the strength of Psychic types. Sabrina's gym, I would imagine to be a huge roadblock.

  4. I have one right now and personally I love it. Two Rare Candies, an Ultra Ball, and a PP Up and I havent even beat Roxanne yet.

Still find it insane that I actually have a Ralts though.

I blame my friend. He jinxed it.

    Oof. That's some serious luck.

Pity it's so fragile until it hits it's final form. You'd better be careful with that, dude.

  5. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think Samus in the Zero Suit is a good example. It makes sense as something that you would be wearing under power armor like that, does it? I'm looking at an actual in-game shot from Brawl (Sorry, but the picture you used looks really fanmade to me), and it doesn't look that bad, I don't think.

I think it's a matter of context, in this case at least. I would imagine that Master Chief is wearing something skintight under his armor, too. Plus, y'know...it's Nintendo. I can't think of any other time they've designed something just to be 'sexy'.

(On another note, unless my memory is wrong, Brawl went both ways with it, and gave Snake a quite defined ass, if I'm remembering right.)

EDIT: And monobrow, can you find smaller pictures? It's making your post a bit hard to read. :x

  6. Jade is a great character yeah. Too bad that game will never get a sequel probably. :(

    Don't remind me. :/

It's an interesting question, though kind of hard to answer for me (being a guy), but I'll give it a try anyway. If you go by things that enjoy a decent amount popularity among a lot of women, you end up with stuff like Twilight and other romance novels, which leads me to believe me that one possible female power fantasy is the kind of relatable, somewhat plain girl like Bella in Twilight, who then gets romantically involved with some mysterious, exotic stranger.
Chick flicks are a form of female power fantasy (where "power" is not physical, but social/ interpersonal).

Alright, so then, here's my next question. What's the best way to translate this into actual video games? Social/interpersonal would lead to adventure games or maybe RPGs, but then RPG characters by their very nature aren't 'plain'.

Jade might be a good example of a great female character...or rather, a great character in general...but does the game itself appeal to women? I'm having trouble trying to find the right way to say this, I suppose, but should we worry about the characters not being sexist, if the game itself doesn't appeal to the gender we're worried about offending?

EDIT: Is it notable that both examples, Jade and Faith both, are the leads of games that didn't do too well?

  7. the 'bald gruff space marine' archetype is a male power fantasy; it does not represent the pinnacle of socially defined sex appeal towards women, and as such cannot be construed as an example of "sexism against men"

So, again I'll ask, what does a female power fantasy consist of? I'm honestly curious here.

  8. Bleck, if Sion was that close to your tower for that long, your jungler should have been up there ganking the hell out of him.

As far as jungling with Naut goes, I've done a couple custom test games, and magic pen runes seem to do better than armor pen.

This is a pretty decent guide I've used for my testing (Elementz endorsed! :U). Not sure how it works in a real game though, I'm still trying to do some more testing before I give it a real try.
