  1. tourniquet is one of my favorite songs that they do. there's kind of an evanescence bias against them at my university, which is kinda of stupid, imo. i really love their sound, and although amy lee doesn't have the best voice live, she's still fantastic.

  2. wacky, stop being a whiny bitch. if you really care that much about a friggin messageboard, you need to chill out and get a life/girlfriend/hobby instead of stroking your intarw3b dick.

magfest (this was my first one) was absolutely fantastic. i really enjoyed myself in everything that i was doing, whether i was going out to eat with some judges, playing original smash brothers with d-lux (dk dive REPRESENT) jamming with luiza, darangen and the like (look for a remix soon in the wip forum), rocking out with djsammyg, or just hanging out at taucer's house watching the snowpeak mountain boss entrance four times in a row =) it really was a lot of fun this whole weekend, and the panels that i attended were really awesome as well. it's good to see the amount of progress vgmix has.

i really hope i can go again next year!

  3. Fantastic arrangement Prophet. Did you play all of the sax parts yourself?

After listening to your entry, I wish I'd have thought more seriously about recording live Trombone parts for my entry. The samples aren't terrible though.

What's the name of the reverb you used by the way? It sounds great.

    Good luck everyone.

yeah, i recorded them all myself. the tenor sucked, though, so i'd at least like to redo that.

the reverb i used is just the reverb bank that comes with fruity 6 (the bigger graphic one, not the basic one). it's just a slightly modified preset. it's a pity i only had my room to record in, because you can hear how tinny it is because it didn't have any room to expand in. major problem with the production there =(

  4. i'd like to point out that i literally did this on the 30th and 31st (as in, i wrote the arrangement during a 7-hour period on the 30th, and recorded it/mastered it kinda on the 31st till about 11pm). i'm going to re-record the tenor saxes, at least, and actually spend time mastering it when i'm not falling asleep listening to it cause i've been up for 23 hours straight.

    enjoy!

  5. I'm playing on an *actual* gameboy this time, no roms for me, so I can't give you pix. I was catching an eggsecute and i couldn't find any (wtf?), then along came this random pinsir. I threw a ball for laughs and caught it, I didn't even want it until I got it.

i've caught three doing that. like, i don't even want the things anymore, and i keep catching them.

    WIPS!

  6. yeah, reason 2.5 supports the length as well, as well as the tempo of the song. at least, i seem to remember it doing that.

how do i do a intrument-in into reason?

lemme qualify this by saying that i'm running 2.5. you've gotta make sure everything's installed and plugged in before you open reason. then you open it, go to preferences->MIDI. or Advanced MIDI, depending on how many instruments you're wiring in. then, just select the one that you're going to be using, and it'll start using that instrument. you've just got to make sure that the little midi symbol is next to the synth that you want to use in the sequencer box.

  7. Sorry guys, but I'm completely stuck with my track, not to mention the fact I can't stand it anymore.

If I don't come up with any new inspiration by new years I'm gonna drop from the project. Mind you, I'll probably get dropped anyway for not updating in ages by then. I not gonna do it officially just yet though. Never know when ideas might come up.

    omg i haet you.

seriously, if you're having problems with your mix, then just move onto a different song. there's more than enough different styles of songs on this project.

  8. Thanks. Yeah, that seems to work.

But pretty much what you're saying is that I have to do it manually with each and every instrument playing and try to match? There's no way to automate the swing like you can in the step sequencer?

you can quantize it using the quantize tool in the piano roll. that's how i'd do it, really. just select ever thing and go to 'quantize...' in one of the piano roll menus. then just apply the same quant settings across the board.

  9. this isn't really an option. i have too much stuff on here

And that is why, ideally, you don't rely on a single partition. Reformatting Windows becomes so routine that losing all of one's precious shit ceases to be a problem if you store it all on something other than C:\. You know, as long as the drive itself doesn't die. But that's why you then use a combination of optical media for backups and maybe even a second hard drive. Still though, multiple partitions FTW.

As to the original problem, the "thinking light" is the HD access light (it'd be awesome to have a front gauge for CPU usage tho) and heavy HD access on startup is unsurprising for most Windows systems, especially those that haven't been reformatted in a while. My suggestions there are to defrag the drive, and either remove some things from startup, or just remove some things altogether. Even with 1GB of RAM (which is pretty much standard these days) HD thrashing will still occur, especially if you're loading a lot of stuff, and killing explorer.exe won't help because Windows Explorer doubles as the Windows shell.

I also suggest replacing Task Manager with SysInternals Process Explorer (it's free), since Process Explorer is a much better tool for figuring out what could be causing a bottleneck in performance.

EDIT: Or just use this to figure out wtf is causing the HD thrashing on startup.

i said it DOESN'T do anything after it logs on - it just sits there, saying that windows is doing some really insanely powerful.

i actually use process explorer. it still just lists explorer as automatically going up to 100% CPU load within a minute of it loading. i thought for sure it's gotta be some sort of virus because it never really did that in the past, and i'm only loading some five small applications on startup. i never run more than 44 processes at a time, according to the sysinternal tool, and only six of them are non-essential files.

i ran that autoruns thing, and didn't notice anything strange in there. would you mind taking a look at it and telling me what you think of it?
