  1. For clarity, sexism is: Sexism, also known as gender discrimination or sex discrimination, is defined as prejudice or discrimination based on sex; or behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex. Sexism is a form of discrimination or devaluation based on a person's sex, with such attitudes being based on beliefs in traditional stereotypes of gender roles. The term sexism is most often used in relation to discrimination against women, in the context of patriarchy. Sexism involves hatred of or prejudice towards a gender as a whole or the application of gender stereotypes. Sexism is often associated with gender-supremacy arguments.
  2. But why make an unattractive character when they could make them attractive? I see no point in making something intentionally unattractive unless the story calls for it.
  3. Except you're the one who said it right here.
  4. That's my experience as well. That AND the fact that all of the girls I've run into that play RPG's or MMO's enjoy dressing their characters up in these outfits. Disclaimer: The above statement is based on my personal experience and is not intended to include every single female that's ever existed on the planet.
  5. If the sole reason games put female characters in there is to please males then yeah, that could be considered sexist. I'd have to stand on the other side and say that most games don't put female characters in there for that sole purpose. To say that the industry as a whole does that is narrow-minded. I know a lot of the female characters in games are created with attractive features, but I refuse to believe that they were put in the for the sole purpose of eye candy. They were put in there for the story, and then made attractive. Of course this is a generalization, for those who like to say all my statements are made as absolutes with no leniency whatsoever. There ARE games out there that put female characters in there for eye candy and nothing more. Those games are sexist, I agree.
  6. Wrong. I used it to support my counter-argument to Bleck's statement that "you realize that the reason behind there being 1 female gamer there are 100 male gamers is because the medium is sexist, right?"
  7. Again, and for the last time.. I didn't say since one girls said boobs are fine that all girls also think boobs are fine, I merely pointed out that one girl who's responded on this topic has pointed out that sexualized female characters aren't a deterrent for girl gamers. It's for a bunch of other reasons, each girl usually having their own personal reason to not be a gamer.
  8. I never said Luiza was the spokeswoman for all women. I merely pointed out that as a girl gamer she doesn't see sexism as a deterrent.
  9. Was it not you who said that girls don't play games because the medium is sexist? Isn't that assuming all girls think alike as well? L2generalization.
  10. Advent Children is a good place to start on how she would look on a next gen console.
  11. Luiza's a girl. And she's one of the people saying who cares if there are boobs in video games.
  12. I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that assumption. Even Luiza said that the assumed sexism in games isn't what turns girls away. Go ask a girl why they don't play video games, I guarantee you that they won't respond with "Because they're sexist." That's not what my argument is based on. My argument is based on having fantasy in a fantasy world, meaning things don't have to be 100% realistic.
  13. Why does sex sell? Because we're human beings, which are sexual beings. Is this really a problem? No.
  14. Seeing "chiseled, half-naked pretty boys" doesn't bother me as a male. And no, I'm not chiseled or a pretty boy. Having the fantasy being clearly tailored towards men makes business sense. For every 1 female gamer there are 100 male gamers (more, most likely). It's simple statistics. If you're trying to sell a product, you're going to have to make a product that is going to appeal to your consumer base. I've never, not once, heard a girl say that they couldn't enjoy something because the girls in it were scantily clad with unrealistic body shapes. And up until now I've never heard a guy say that watching chiseled pretty boys in a movie makes them uncomfortable. Maybe you're just the odd one here.
  15. I think people will see sexism wherever they want to look for it. I don't see anything wrong with making females look hot in games, or guys look ripped even if it's to a ridiculous degree. I don't play video games to mimic reality, I play video games to escape from reality. IMO, if you wanna see realistic men and women, go to the mall or walmart or wherever. Don't play games if you're expecting them to perfectly depict reality. In a fantasy world you're allowed to have fantasy.
  16. That makes sense, and helps a ton. Thanks
  17. dannthr, the first reflections are the spots on the wall where the monitors are pointing at, correct?
  18. The baffles look like a good idea, I'm just not sure if I'd have a place to store them unless I left them up permanently, which I guess is an option? The Auralex squares are what I've been looking at the most, the local Sam Ash nearby would sell me about a dozen for $50. I'm not sure if that's too many squares or not enough. I'll try giving Auralex a call and see if they have any recommendations.
  19. For both, really. I'm also wanting to kill unwanted ambiance while recording acoustic guitar, vocals, and some hand percussion.
  20. I'm sure when it comes out it'll be amazing. Take your time, make sure everything's ready
  21. I've decided I want to see what I can do about doing some acoustic treatment for my studio. I'm asking for tips and tricks that you all may know. Here's a very basic layout of the room: The room is carpeted, and other than the diagonal corner in the top left is about 12x12. I have my computer and monitors in the diagonal corner. I've done some basic research regarding acoustic foam, I'm just not so sure on where to put it. Looking at some studios they have foam on the walls in what seems to me to be random places that make me wonder "Why there, and not... 3 feet over there?" I think my frequency problems seem to be too much bass and not a lot of highs. That's the sense I get when I listen to my mixes in other rooms or my car. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Silent had a remix of FF9's "You Are Not Alone" that was kinda western like. It's not on OCR though, it was on the now-deceased VGMix 2.5. I have it at home though, somewhere, and I'd be glad to upload and link to it. (I'm at work now)
  23. Guitar Rig does have a pedal you can purchase and use via MIDI, and I think you can use a few other MIDI foot controllers with it too which makes it completely viable for live performance. When I play live I use a combination of Guitar Rig, a Boss DD-3 delay pedal, and an A-B switch. I don't have the Guitar Rig MIDI foot controller, but I have the A-B switch going to two separate inputs on my sound card which go to two different Guitar Rig settings - usually heavy and clean sounds. Then I tap on the delay if needed. At the end of the day it comes down to personal choice really, purchase what you want and what gives you the tone you're looking for. I used the Digitech RP200 for over a decade and it did pretty much everything I needed it to do, so I know the draws of an all-in-one pedal.
  24. Most high gain amps have noise that you can't kill without a noise gate. It's not a matter of playing correctly or incorrectly, it's a matter of killing the noise. But Neko is right, the ISP Decimator is golden.
