  1. Try Google Scholar, they might return relevant academic articles. When writing an academic research paper for a conference or journal, try not to cite too often from media. (If this is just a school project though feel free to cite whatever).

    One of the hits was:

    Collins, Karen (2008). "Game sound:

an introduction to the history, theory, and practice of video game music and sound design", MIT Press.

  2. and I hear that Apple's Bandstand (part of Logic or Logic Pro or something) is quite good as well for Mac users.

I believe you mean "Mainstage"? (http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/mainstage/) This was a small part of your post but I just wanted to double check that there wasn't some part of Logic I missed out on.

By the way, for anyone wondering, I never did make the plunge to get Komplete, and instead have continued to use free sounds for the past eight or so months. It's a little less fun in a way (there have been many times I wished for a wider variety of instruments) but I decided that Komplete also isn't essential for someone like me who's still quite new at music.

Maybe when I graduate I'll get Komplete 7 as a reward for myself :3

  3. Bumpitty bump, Civilization V is released next week, September 21.

I don't think I can afford to buy it... not because it's expensive, but the sheer loss of productivity is something I can't cope with at this point in my life!

  4. I think the main "issue" that players have with a fatigue system is that it gives the perception that you're being punished for playing whenever you want.

North America is a very customer-service oriented culture, and there's a perception that if I'm playing a $15 monthly fee for a game, then I better be able to play it whenever I want without being punished for it.

They could have, instead, gone the inverse and gave a bonus to people who come back after not playing for a while.

  5. Word on the street is that this beta is not doing so well and that the game definitely isn't ready for a release in about two weeks.

I've been hearing issues like mouse lag, bad menu setup, uninspired quests, translation issues, annoying leveling restrictions, bad economy setup, uninspired/uninteresting combat system, strange job selection, and so forth. One blog poster said that this game would have been amazing in about six months and that this feels like a pre-beta build, and not a game that's supposed to come out in a few weeks.

The universal good things I've heard are, good graphics, neat character customization, and it's solo-friendly.

    Can anyone expand?

  6. When I found out who Ke$ha was, I listened to Tik Tok. For 10 fucking seconds. Never again.

I want a bubblegum pop demolition night.

Okay I listened to Tik Tok for about a minute and I liked it more than that other song "Your Love is my Drug"... for the latter I couldn't even get through the chorus.

  7. I am finding that there were a couple of things that improved my Starcraft 2 game immensely. I read this from an article inspired by Day[9] who is a pretty well-known video blogger for Starcraft and Starcraft 2.

These are applicable for bronze league (and probably silver/gold as well).

    Number 1: Concentrate on macro.

Don't worry about how good you are with manipulating those units. Simply concentrate on getting the larger army up, faster. Be sure to expand out to new bases and to keep building units. A lot of games that don't end in 10 minutes due to rushes in Bronze simply come down to "who has the bigger army?"

    Number 2: Watch the minimap.

If you can develop a skill to keep one eye on the minimap and the other eye on the main screen, do that. Because you will realise just how much you can see. People in bronze/silver often don't watch the map and you can fly guys by for harassing their expansions, or, interestingly enough, when the enemy launches an attack they'll walk right by your units at a Xel'naga watch tower because they simply did an attack-move to the base and didn't decide to clear the towers first. So you get to see exactly what type of army they're bringing to you.

This is why it's important to scout, though admittedly most new players will scout and not really know what to look for.

In this case though I recommend keeping units at each tower simply to watch for the enemy's movement, and if you see them move it'll allow you to get up the right type of defenses for the army they have.
