Contact Information * ReMixer name: Cato * Real name: Jordan Gagne * Email address: knee_scrape911@hotmail.com * Website: n/a * Userid: 23345 Submission Information * Name of game(s) arranged: Blue Dragon * Name of individual song(s) arranged: 'The Landshark is Coming!', 'Waterside' * Additional information about game including composer, system, etc: Nobuo Uematsu, XBOX 360 * Link to the original soundtrack: * Comments about the mix: Well, I've always been a huge Uematsu fan, so when my Xbox-owning-RPG-starved self picked up Blue Dragon and saw that Nobuo Uematsu had done the soundtrack, I thought it would be a great opportunity to do a remix without jumping on the FF7 bandwagon (Although I admit, I'm a long time FF bandwagon member). During the game I found myself constantly nodding in time whenever 'The Land Shark is Coming!' started playing, and I wanted to do a metal-ish version of it. And no metal instrumental is complete without a slow-paced midsection, so I had the perfect opportunity to melt it together with the softer 'Waterside', which was another of my favorites from the game. Then I wanted to bring the song right back up to speed, ending with a melodic breakdown with an army of recorded guitar tracks devouring my computer's shameful running capacity. The end result was 'There's Sharks in Them There Hills', which I hope you guys can enjoy.
  2. Remix Info ReMixer name: CHIPP Damage, Fray Name of source music: Behave Irrationally (main), Turn Over a New Leaf (sub) Link to remix: Links to originals: Game Info Title: Valkyrie Profile Developer: Tri-Ace System: Playstation American Release date: August, 2000 Composer: Motoi Sakuraba It's a novel of an email so I'll title each section for easy navigation. Inspiration This is a Viking Death Metal arrangement of Behave Irrationally and a little bit of Turn Over a New Leaf from Valkyrie Profile. Behave Irrationally played EVERY TIME someone dies and gets judged by the Valkyrie, and Turn Over a New Leaf is played EVERY TIME you meet a boss and thus, are arguably two of the most important tracks in the game. However, they weren't included in the arranged album! Since Viking Death Metal and Valkyrie Profile are both based on Norse Mythology, I figured Viking Death Metal was the perfect genre for the two "most important" themes of Valkyrie Profile. Hahaha. I worked on just the production aspect of this for more than 2 months almost EVERYDAY and got tired and asked for help in the forums. So this turned out to be a collaboration: Arrangement and performance by CHIPP Damage and production by Fray (he kicks ass). Story (In case you can't catch it all just from the lyrics) I saw a piece by StarSalzman get referred to as a miniature world. I thought I'd try the same thing, so I wrote a very complete story for this song which includes myself as a character, elements from the game, and real Norse Mythology. Here it is. I am Zoltan, the legendary travelling warrior who united all the countries of the Yamato Continent. Ragnarok begins and I prepare for the war with all of my friends in Hai-lan. We start fighting and I die when an arrow hits my shield and releases a cloud of weeping lilly pollen (poisonous). No Valkyrie comes for me but the Rainbow Bridge to Valhalla appears before me. I journey across the bridge. After arriving, I walk through the hall and find nobody except for a single norn, Skuld. I ask where all of the Einherjar are. Skuld tells me that Ragnarok is a war not only for humans, but that gods and even the dead must fight(In other words, the Valkyries are busy too). He tells me that there are legends of my bravery on Midgard that have been spoken among the Einherjar and that Odin, upon hearing these tales, had decided that I would be chosen to change the outcome of Ragnarok. So Odin told two of his best Einherjar to leave great weapons for me. Those warriors are Arngrim and Lucian. From Arngrim: The Bahamut's Tear. And from Lucian: The Shining Bolt. And from Skuld I receive a swan maiden's feathered cloak. He tells me to use this to go to other worlds of the Yggdrasil to help battle. So I take them and am granted life once more and am falling from the sky. I use Bahamut's Tear and Shining Bolt to defeat all enemies in Yamato. After the battle in Yamato, my friends and I jump into our dragon ships with our entire armies and head to Asgard to defeat Surtur. We make the journey to Jotunheim by wishing upon the swan maiden's feathered cloak. At Jotunheim we help win the battle and the outcome of Ragnarok is turned in Odin's favor. In the end I end up killing Surtur and that means he can't burn the world with his fiery hands like in real Norse Mythology, but I get engulfed in flames and die shortly after and this time get carried off to Valahalla by a valkyrie to enjoy the feast of the Einherjar after the victory of Ragnarok. Lyrics Jun, sharpen the katanas. Suo, bring the armor. Shiho, sing your song of courage. Yumei, raise the lapis high. The war of 9 worlds has begun and we are outnumbered 10 to 1. Nanami takes the odds and evens them. Tenchu raining down from heaven! Ragnarok is unleashed across these worlds I choose to fight in Hai-lan. Battle screams sound faster than Heimdal's horn when an arrow hits my shield. A cloud of Weeping Lilly pollen is unleashed. I fall to my knees but there is no valkyrie. I must journey across the rainbow bridge alone. Skuld! Where are the Einherjar? This is Ragnarok. Even the dead can't rest. You have been chosen by Odin to turn the tide of Ragnarok. Your deeds on Midgard are known to us. A warrior of legend to the Einherjar. You must fight for the All-Father or the Yggdrasil will fall to the flames of Nifleheim So take the Bahamut's Tear. And take the Shining Bolt. To take your army to Valhall use the Swan Maiden's Cloak. And fight like you are Aesir! I thrust my sword through Surtur, piercing his heart of flame. And as I am engulfed in his fire I see the shining blue armor descend. Special thanks (Please include in the write-up if the mix passes.) CHIPP Damage thanks the following for help of various forms during the creation of this remix: Moseph, Yoozer, Dannthr, Sengin, Zircon, Harmony, JJT, big giant circles, Darkesword, OA, Snappleman, Trenthian, SwordBreaker Legion303, Sixto, anyone else I may have missed, Fray for becoming my beloved collaboration partner and kicking some production ass, Hoboka and djpretzel for random props in my forum thread, and Tensei-san for listening to this remix about 100 times after every miniscule change to the audio that was made. "You are my embassador of coin." Sincerely, CHIPP Damage (Jahan Zoltan Honma)

Medrano & Stefan Karlsson forgotten_imp@yahoo.com, rally_mannen@hotmail.com http://tadakichi.baka.us/Sixto_Sounds/ UserID: 13403, 31050 MegaMan 3, Track 1 Steppo had sent me this MP3 of a remix he was working on and asked if I was interested in a collaboration. I listened to the track and was immediately turned on by the arrangement. I pretty much just took what he had and made it louder (much louder) with my own samples and guitar tracking and added a bridge section with a simple guitar solo.
  4. Conctact Info: Blue Magic Damon Campbell email: bluemagic1984@bellsouth.net website: http://www.angelfire.com/blues2/bluemagic/ Remix Info: Sonic and Knuckles Lava Reef / Hidden Palace Zone Comments: Its been a long time coming... This was suppose to be a collab, but things didn't go as planned. But its all good. I've been working on this for a little while now, and it finally done. This is a remix of Lava Reef/ Hidden Palace Zone from the Sonic and Knuckles soundtrack. It is sort of similar to my "New Beginnings" mix (with the mother nature sound FX and all), but in my opinion, it is a bit more upbeat and jazzy. Enjoy

  6. ReMixer name: Maxo Real name: Max Email: maximum28@aol.com Site: www.myspace.com/maxoelectronic Game remixed: F-Zero Songs remixed: Big Blue, Mute City Composer: Naoto Yoshida, Yukio Kaneoka, Yumiko Kanky Links: - Mute City: - Big Blue: Comments: Ok, first things first, I AM aware that there was a remix posted by someone quite recently with the same songs remixed, so I'm letting you know that this is pure coincidence. Now about the remix... After seeing one of my previous remixes approved (thanks!) I felt inspired to make something else. After awhile I decided on F-Zero, for no specific reason. I started out making a remix of Big Blue, but Mute City kept on getting stuck in my head while I was making it, so I put a little Mute City interlude in. I tried to make it seem as natural of a transition as possible. Listening back, I realized that it does sound pretty cheesy... a lot like Dragonforce (haha). But it gets the point through one way or another. I made this on Garageband. ----------------------------------------------------- http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=fz - "Big Blue" (fz-02.spc) & "Mute City" (fz-09.spc) The sounds and texture are pretty thin, and every instrument plays ultra-mechanically. Overall, the arrangement was pretty conservative and uninterpretive. 1:15 at least had the "Mute City" theme on top of the "Big Blue" backing chords. After that, most of the interpretation was in the supporting writing and not with the melodic content. So while there was some personal flair, it was definitely not enough. On top on that, the arrangement felt pretty underdeveloped at only 2:29-long. There's gotta be more humanity in the performance, more meat in the sounds, and more substance in the arrangement. With that Wario Land 2 sub already up on the front page, Max, you know you're capable of way better, bro. NO
  7. This is Starblaze. Well, I'm actually just Evan now. Yeah, I think Evan will do just fine. I completed one of the few remixes I've actually attempted in the past few years about six months ago. Since then, my hard drive has crashed. I've reformatted, but I lost a lot of information. One of the things I lost was the FLP file associated with this song. While feedback is obviously still appreciated, there is little, if anything I can do if there are "acceptance-breaking" problems with my submission, which I imagine there will be. I'll be honest: I don't think this is amazing. I barely even think it's "good." It's the first piece of electronic music I have ever really completed (I am still more of an orchestra guy at heart), so there will be problems. You could probably argue that the drum line isn't various enough, or that my instrument choice is a little stale. I might even agree with any of those statements, so at least we will agree. In any event, this is a very simple, and yet somewhat complex, arrangement of various songs from F-Zero GX for the Gamecube. It is simple because it doesn't go crazy; I don't break any musical barriers, and stylistically, it's even somewhat generic. It's a bit complex because of the way the melody was composed; several songs were wrapped up and then "spit out" so to speak. Listen carefully and you can hear them all; "Infinite Blue," "Mute City," (which is more prominent; I wanted to make at least some of this a bit more obvious so that even if you can't hear what I'm trying to do, its 'arrangement' status is somewhat justified), and the victory music which escapes me in name at the moment. Fans of the game may recognize a few more goodies. If by some chance this remix is to be accepted, I would request that you change my name from "Starblaze" to "Evan Pattison." All other information is current and accurate. Thanks. Hopefully, I will become somewhat more active and begin producing more music.
  8. Hi fellow remixers (and larry), Remixer name: Shraker Nops Link: (but just incase, I've attached it to this e-mail aswell) I've noticed that the music from the PC EDITION (S&K Collection) of S3&K hasn't been remixed yet. A few (like 4 or so) songs from the PC version are differnt. Yes. Icecap is one of them. I never heard the Icecap as it is known untill a long time after I played the game. PC Icecap link: (The PC edition was midi, so this is EXACTLY how it sounds.) I decided to combine the Icecap music from both versions; the pc, and the orginal. And the bridge between the SG version and the PC version is a little clip from F-zero. No idea why I though it in there, it just kinda fit. If you have any questions you need asking just email me at my personal email adress: (REMOVE THIS EMAIL ADRESS AFTER CUZ I DONT WAN'T SPAM) Oh, and I just want to give a shout out to ocremixfan for being such a great help in the fourms. - Shraker Nops PS. I hate the smell (and taste) of pretzels but I LOVE this site. Thanks for all the hard work you guys do reviewing the reviews and doing all that stuff. ------------------------------------------------ For the record, I make ReMixes in my head; they're amazingz. http://project2612.org/download.php?id=61 - IceCap Zone 1 http://www.teamartail.com/midi/sonic3/icecap_act1_pc.mid - IceCap Zone 1 The note movements are meant to sound smooth, but every instrument in the intro moves from note to note in exactly the same way, making things seem robotic. A really tacky and thin electric guitar synth arrived at 1:04 followed by some ultra flimsy beats at 1:12. Is this overly simplistic and repetitive groove really gonna get the job done? The F-Zero cameo had no purpose there as a transition point (scrap it), and the immediate shift into the syrupyness of the PC IceCap theme at 2:15 was merely jarring. At this point, thoughts about the arrangement are lost amidst the issue that the sequencing of the synth guitar is really rigid and the tone of the sample is ugly. The balance among the instruments needs massive work; stuff tends to clutter horribly when lots of sounds are going on at once. Too loud, too abrasive, too mechanical-sounding. Samples are too thin. Arrangement is too conservative. The arrangement approach is personalized with the sound choices, but not significantly interpretive. Oof. Everything's ultra-rough here, bro. Words of encouragement are gonna have to come from another source. You just need to learn more about production and develop arrangement ideas that are more creative. NO
  9. Hello OCR Community. I made a cool Remix and many people already liked it, so I found your site to show this song to more people out there. YOU'LL LOVE IT! (even if you never played HoMM3) Song already uploaded on my website -> check it out! SONG DATA: Album (not finished): The Unrecognized Powers Song: Knights and Magic Genre: House Size: 1.650 MB Lenght: 1:45 min Bitrate: 128 kbps Thanks ----------------------------------------------------- Bah. Really hate subs like these where the submitter gives no source tune information for an obscure game with a large soundtrack. Checked out all 48 tracks (absolutely excellent soundtrack, I'll add), and nothing sounds like this. Based on the notes about this track from your site, it looks like you may have just made some sparse original music & beats, then added several direct sampled in-game music cues and SFX on top. Since I don't know for sure, I can't treat this as if it were a violation. But I can treat this as an obvious NO. Not gonna waste further time on this one.
  10. Hi to DJpretzel and the other OCR judges. I did a remix of a song from Final Fantasy VI and I thought I would share with you and submit it to OCRemix. You can download the ReMix here: (this is my own webspace, so it won't risk of getting deleted and the host has 99% uptime so if it go down it should be back up later) Here is the info about the ReMix -Name of game remixed: Final Fantasy VI -Name of individual song(s) ReMixed: Terra theme (first world map song) -I am a big techno/euro/trance music fan and I liked the Terra theme a lot in Final Fantasy VI for the SNES. In fact, it's my favourite song in the game, and the way it is arranged I thought I would make a Trance version of the song. I used MTV Music Generator on a Playstation emulator to make the song and Audacity to record it. It start very smooth, and after half a minute approximately the club beat start with all the techno/trance effects from the late 1990s (as the MTV Music Generator software date back in 1999). I love piano in trance so I thought I would go with piano with this ReMix. I hope you like it and that it deserves being added on OCRemix. I will look forward for your reviews and comments so I can improve it if needed. (stolen from The Wingless) *Decent, though a simplistic/by-the-numbers trance adaptation *Various sounds are imbalanced; beats and arpeggiated rhythms possibly dominate the soundscape too much *Arrangement isn't comprehensive to begin with, and simply repeats verbatim at 2:23 until 3:40/the end NO

It is pretty swell if you ask me." ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.vgmusic.com/music/computer/microsoft/windows/HoMM2Grass.mid - "Grass" Thanks for providing the source. Nice atmosphere for the intro with some personalized expansionist ideas compared to the original. A stock drum flurry at :33 signaled the beetz coming in at :39. Once the melody kicked in at :52, the melody and countermelodic writing was unfortunately basically used verbatim from :15 of the source. Woodwind sample used for the lead was alright, though piercing. The countermelodic stuff didn't cut through the beatwork at all. Orchestral stabs from 1:19-1:22 were completely cheesy and sounded completely glued into the mix; didn't sound like it was remotely in the same soundscape, causing a drastic disconnect. Then repeated the same stuff as before with some additional stuff in the background. Soundfield was getting pretty crowded and piercing up until 1:49. The last section was decent, but merely a placeholder for a poorly executed fadeout. You had a lot of instances where there was too much treble going on and things were crowded and loud; gotta revisit the sound balance. Arrangement was too brief and underdeveloped, the beatwork itself just repeats over and over for the entire track once it comes in, and most of the instrumentation was pretty flat. Needs a lot more substance, but a good first try that shows potential. NO
  12. Hello there; my remixer name is Sukotto42, and my real name is Scott Hannay(http://www.myspace.com/scotthannay, my original music site), and I've got a track here for you that I did a little while back, and just went over and re-EQed, re-tooled, re-whatever. Anyway, it's a medley from Mega Man 3 for the NES. It goes first from the title screen into Shadow Man, into Snake man, then the boss battle. After that, it goes to the 2nd half of the credits music to close it out. Oh yeah, and it's all crunchy prog-rock. I chose to do this because the first MIDI work I ever did was transcribing all the music from the game note-for-note, like 5 years ago or something. Kind of a labor of love! Thanks for your time! -Sukotto42 Scott Hannay
  13. Contact Information NoTuX (Formerly Blue Magic) Damon Campbell Website: https://soundcloud.com/notux-1 Your userid: Not sure. Submission Information Game Arranged: Super Mario RPG Song: Welcome to Booster’s Tower by Yoko Shimomura YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/MthR2dXqWHI Hello everyone. It’s been a while. After some big changes in my life, I kinda quit working on music for a while, but I started to feel like a part of me went missing and I realized that music is sort of my therapy to help me deal with my everyday stresses and on-going battle with depression. Though, I’m not great at it yet, I kind of need it. With that in mind, I decided that I want to take music more seriously and improve. I have been thinking about changing my name for years, but never really got around to it. Since I now have new inspirations, and a new state of mind, why not go with a new name? Under this name, I will be diving back into some of my old projects and creating something I can really be proud of. This being the first of many. This is sort of a chill hip-hop remix of the Booster’s Tower theme. This was my very first VGM remix that was done YEARS and YEARS ago using Midisoft Studio 4 (one of my all time favorite programs) back before I even discovered OCR. I believe it was back in 97 or 98. Of course, it didn’t sound nearly as nice and the ideas didn’t flow very well, but the instruments and arrangement was pretty similar, and I wanted to keep it that way while fleshing out those ideas I had way back then. Hearing McVaffe’s Bukki’s Tango and Dev’s La Saia’s Resting Place really persuaded me to try my hand at VGM remixing in the first place, but I felt that I could never compete with what McVaffe did with this song, so I held off on remixing it until I got my skills up. I took a crack at this remix a few years ago. It was decent, but I felt that it just wasn’t up to my standards. I knew I could do better, but I just wasn’t really able to get it together. I kinda threw what I had on SoundCloud and abandoned it until this past Christmas. So, here it is, ladies and gents. New and improved:

  15. So alt rock! An interesting vocal transformation into something radio-friendly in a specifically 90's sorta way - see what you think! - djp --- ReMixer Name: Darangen Real Name: Michael Boyd email: website: http://www.reverbnation.com/darangen userid: 8887 Game: Final Fantasy Song name: Find Your Way songs arranged: Town Theme original source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1RS5znEZ4c Comments: After MAGfest, I started listening to a lot of 90's music again, thanks to Vinnie's 90's flashback guitar playing - so I blame him for this remix. So one day I was messing around on the guitar since I couldn't sleep and played a C chord followed by E7 and it brought me back to the town theme. And thus it began. Originally this was going to be completely instrumental, but I purchased iZotopes Nectar 2 plugin (which I HIGHLY recommend anyone mixing vocals picks up) and had to try it out, so I thought "what better way to try this out other than writing and recording some lyrics". With that said, it's a lyrical remix, and while I've done lyrical mixes before, my vocals were always my obvious weak point; so I spent more time on them than any other element. While they're still not perfect, I like to think I've come a long way since "Falling Back". The chorus is original and the verses, bridge and solo carry the source. The bridge is very liberal with the source while the verses and solo are straight forward, but if you listen to the bridge the right way you'll hear the part of the source I got it from. For the inspiration for the lyrics, I tried to take it from a villagers perspective. A few Warriors of Light stroll into town after a weary day on the battlefield, only to know that the next day will be more grueling than the last. As someone who played Final Fantasy when it was first released way back in the late 80's, I remember needing to return to the towns quite often to heal up, replenish magic charges and restock on potions. So I wrote from the standpoint of a villager telling them to stick through the tough times ahead and come back when they're weary. The lyrics are as follows: ---------------- verse 1 just ahead beyond the horizon look above, the azure blue who would think that this world was at its end and its fate belongs to you verse 2 pressing on, there are those who'd discourage you trials, there's more than just a few each new day has a challenge of its own but the light will see you through chorus go left, go right start another fight, come back and stay another night you'll find your way right now, some how take another chance again and turn it right around we're here to stay so if ever you're in trouble come back to fight another day verse 3 with the means to overcome what's in front of you and even what you cannot see you'd do well to remember all of those who have saved your memories chorus go left, go right start another fight, come back and stay another night you'll find your way right now, some how take another chance again and turn it right around we're here to stay so if ever you're in trouble come back to fight another day chorus go left, go right start another fight, come back and stay another night you'll find your way right now, some how take another chance again and turn it right around we're here to stay so if ever you're in trouble come back to fight another day verse 4 just ahead beyond the horizon look above, the azure blue who would think that this world was at its end and its fate belongs to you my friend ---------------- As always, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it!

  18. OMG! HEAR IS REMICKS!Q HEAR IT.! Well originallly (check out that triple L action!) my plan was to only submit my VG arrangements to OCR in Chronological order. Going back through my drawer of VG arrangments, I decided that I wouldnt be submitting everything. (at least not in its current state. Expect something about wizards wearing armor in the near future reproduced and near-completely retooled from its currentform.) So yeah, My Mother, Starfox, Earthbound, Kid niki the radical ninja, and gauntlet remixes all get the axe, unless I retool those later as well like I am with my classified remix debut of a cutting edge guitar synth that isnt pubblic yet. ) Anyways, I was listening to this track and pondering the question of why I hadnt submitted this to OCR yet. The answer was that the other older mixes were holding it back. givven the state of the judges panel, if I was to release this in the future, after I had submitted newer stuff, this one wouldnt have a chance at getting posted but for a direct post. it is not my intention to create music for no one to listen to, and for this reason I will only be submitting my remixes in chronological order. And no, I do not believe in the whole take it back and re-work it philosophy when put in the context of "this was the best I could produce at the time." this is a piece of my musical history, and should have a chance to go where everything else I have done does. Those other remixes are awesome, but a little too straight lace for OCR's standards, and the panel doesnt seem to give yes's anymore to music from remixers who have beben posted unless there is a signifigant pop/indy factor, a half dozen atonal melodies and 7 reclassification of mode and genre. Oh yeah obligatory Key changes are in. Gripes aside, they are an excellent control method, but i think they need to be more lax and really lower the bar. it turns off too many new mixers to music when they are told that they need to go back and redo it. If its a first time newb mix its one thing, but when there is signifigant musical value, bbut the production is flawed, its not fair to the Joe anybody who doesnt know where to get the latest and greatest or best free stuff. Enough ramble. This is a remix of Shademan from Mega man seven, dating back to PRC26. Compyfox was too busy to balance and master this track for me . But he is still my mix monkey. For those of you into MM7. Shademan was the level where if you held down A on the controller during the intro screen, hidden stage music would play. the music was from Ghosts and Goblins. So if you were wondering why the hell, well now you know why the hell. also, there is the normal shademan music all over the place in this obviously. Be gentle, this one is oldish and wears Depends. New obscure game mixes to follow soon! Yay! Maybe not, silly 3 week waiting period before next submits. Production Notes FYI included in ID3tag comments section: Excerpt: " !! WEASELS IN MY PANTS~!!" Here is my new remix. This track was originally completed for Adhesive Boy's and Irriadin's now defunct Earthbound remix project. It's a beastly mix of Sanctuary Guardian, which segues nicely into a soothing mix of Welcome To Your Sanctuary. It was made entirely in Reason, and the two parts were stitched together in Cool Edit. I hope you like it. Cheers Binster
  20. Shiver me timbers - this shanty gave no quarter! Dustin, ye seadog, ye ran a fine jig and battened down the hatches on this swash-buckling deck! Alright, here's my thoughts without the pirate speak. The arrangement is conservative for the most part, but in addition to performing the theme, there are also fresh twists and turns like: The playing around with the first part of melody A at 0:22 The original part at 1:42 that still kept to that buccaneer feeling The violin solo at 2:19 that added a little bit of tension before going to the melody C repeat That chugging rhythm guitar at 2:48 interpreting the opening notes, building a grand climax towards the ending segment And dare I say, the ending itself at 3:34 is adorable - a fade-out to a whistling local? That's not only a cool way to handle the theme, but it's out of the blue and caught my attention. The production itself also feels clean, the guitars are still as heavy as I remember from you, and when the orchestra is in full force, there's an intense amount of work to make them ride over the top. The only nitpick I have, however, is that violin sample. The reverb makes it fit well among the other instruments, so good going there. But if this sound has any key switches, it's a good idea to experiment with them and give out a more realistic tone than this constant perfect medium stab. Nevertheless, in its current form, I can see this on the front page. The arrangement is fantastic, production values are clearly over the bar, and the performance work is top-notch. I'm glad to hear from you again, arrr! YES
  21. Majeliss majeliss@gmail.com Remixed: Pokemon red/blue Wild pokemon battle theme -- This is a Goa/Psytrance remix of the battle theme of wild pokemon. It may sound like this remix has less of the original theme in it, but if you know the battle theme well, the original melody plays throughout the whole remix. I hope you OCR Judges like Goa/Psytrance or just this submission ^__^ -- Blessed be
  22. First of all, here's my take on the elephant in the room - source use. Chord sequence aside, Dream Shore alone (via melody and acoustic guitar backing) has a definite presence to me from 0:12-2:50 - a comfortable 60% coverage. This issue was never going to be a problem for me in the first place. Production-wise, Rebecca still has the magic. The instruments are beautifully humanized, appropriately mixed within a beautiful organic space, and are importantly clear and identifiable. It's a quiet mix that I was in debate as to whether it needed normalizing or not, but ultimately doing so would disrupt the gorgeous dynamics in place - hence, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The arrangement feels safe in comparison, but there's enough addition of new backing instrumentation and counter melodies to make them feel like more than just a re-interpretation of the source. Even the flourishes/grace notes on the woodwinds (0:39, 0:44, 1:55 to give clear examples) felt like touches that also played around with the melody while also adding to the aforementioned organic space. I also wasn't too sure of what to make of the wind-down from 3:16 onward. Mood-wise, it does its job at closing out with calming the previously established pace, but the plucked cello writing doesn't feel all that harmonically pleasing with the rest of the instruments. It's not a dealbreaker for me, but when its job up to that point was identifying the chords for the other parts to sit on, it does feel counter-productive. Nevertheless, it's a gorgeous Rebecca production as always - and while the writing isn't at her best, it's serviceable to let it stand tall with the rest of her work. Good stuff. YES
  23. Email sub file FINALF~1.MP3 Remixer Name: Tepid Real Name: Philip Schwan, but let's just say Phil E-mail: davidmschwan@aol.com or phswan@hotmail.com UserID: vergo890 Game Remixed: Final Fantasy VIII Song Remixed: Fisherman's Horizon Comments: This started as a messaround with the Fisherman's Horizon melody. I know in the real song (a beautiful song indeed) there a lot of chord changes and a lot of jazzy chords. I tried to picture the song as an acoustic ballad and then decided later to make it a rock ballad aswell. I used some pretty strangly voiced chords to base the melody around, so it would still retain the relaxed feel and wouldn't be too awkward to play. So I'm very pleased with the results, I think it's the best song I've yet recorded on Cakewalks Home Studio 2002. I've played all of the instruments live aside from the drums (sequenced on FL3.5 demo ) and the strings, from my PSR-240 (cheap stuff). Instead of playing the guitar into a mike from my amp, I tried playing it straight into my computer with a nice reverb sound, and I think it sounds better than my previous attempts to record live guitar. The song took one full day to record. The drums took another full day to sequence (I gotta get me a better program for those) and it took me a couple hours to polish the song off. Once I get going with a song I can't stop, this has been pointed out by my mother who says: 'If you spent as much time studying as you did recording, you'd be in Harvard!' Meh, only nerds go to Harvard...*turns on PS2 for another 8hr sesson of Final Fantasy until eyeballs begin to bleed*

It was done in Reason2.5 over the course of a long, long time, and this is a yet-further tweaked version of the VGMix release (http://www.vgmix.com/song_view.php?song_id=1941) which will hopefully sound better, features a more prominent growly synth in the second half of the track, and is also extended in length slightly to 2:32.
