glasfen Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I've been playing guitar for many years now but there is one technique I can't seem to figure out. It's that "screaming guitar slide" that is employed heavily by Boston, particularly in their debut album. Hear it here (around 0:43): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcsVPis1iNs Is it done with a pick? Any pointers? ...when are those hairstyles coming back? Quote
Nekofrog Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Slide your pick up or down the a wound string(s). Really easy. Quote
Fishy Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Thats a pick slide. You just run the pick down the bottom 2/3 strings to make a scratching sound. Cue random youtube idiot with a demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFLgdKMBsCc&feature=related EDIT: hooo sniped on this highly technical answer by neko. Quote
glasfen Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 Awesome. If I had known what it was called I might have been able to figure it out... Thanks guys! Quote
audio fidelity Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Cue random youtube idiot with a demonstration: ouch - he can't even tell how out of tune he is Quote
Skummel Maske Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 That's okay though. I checked his other clips, and his guitar solos blow my mind. Quote
audio fidelity Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 aw man your right - my mind wants to explode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X35iHNYVf4 Quote
DusK Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 This technique is employed heavily in hardcore punk rock, in case you wanted to hear it in a louder setting. Quote
Sixto Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Stock up on picks! You'll ruin them so fast by doing those slides. I usually go through 5 or 6 when I record ONE song. Quote
