Pegasia
I thought it was okay, but yeah, the guro stuff was to the point of exhibitionism than something profound. For better/cooler usage of 'guro', Shikabane Hime and Ga Rei Zero does it better. And other 'supergirl who kills people' anime like Saikano that sets up a better mood about it. Yeah I'm going to watch Saikano next. Sorry if my first post made it sound like I was obsessed with it, everyone.
I-n-j-i-n
Not really. Those who first watch anime, the shockers like Elfen Lied and Evangelion most likely will make a huge impact because you probably won't find that kind of combination of violence and storytelling in almost any media (It'd even be heavily restricted in games too. Especially anything sexual). For starter anime, it's actually a pretty good choice. Though it'd be a funny segue for anime viewers to get into something extremely mellow like Aria next. I mean, I watch anime when I can and have seen a few, but I guess I'm still a stater viewer.
Avatar of Justice
I did a paper on Elfen Lied a few years ago, if anyone is interested in reading:http://soundtempest.net/jill/Elfen_Lied_Gesamtkuntswerk.pdf That was YOUR paper? I have the PDF on my hard drive (somebody linked me to it years ago), as it introduced me to the term Gesamtkuntswerk, something I now bring up quite a bit in my artsy fartsy discussions with friends. Um...thanks for teaching me what Gesamtkuntswerk is?
OverCoat
For better/cooler usage of 'guro', Himekishi Lilia does it better. Yes I agree
Ferret
I've watched both the anime and read the manga (thanks to OneManga.com yay), and while I would definitely recommend the anime for the music... I wouldn't really suggest it to anyone with a weak stomach or whose views on humanity are easily influenced by media or anything like that. Still and all, though, great story, worth the time if you think you can handle it. (Spoiler: MAJOR, MAJOR differences between the manga and the anime. If the animation is Die Hard, then the manga is The Godfather.) Also, injin, I don't really think that porn quite compares...no matter how bloody... Unless you like to get off on squick. :s
