Jenner Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Any advice? It'll connect me to the server and I'll write in /join ocremix but it doesn't open up the window. I am so alone Also, I am a total newb at IRC so use small words. Quote

I am so alone Also, I am a total newb at IRC so use small words. Are you writing '/join ocremix' or '/join #ocremix'? It should be the latter (only asking such an obvious question as you said you were a total newb). It wouldn't let you connect to the server at all if irc was banned I would have thought? Quote
LuketheXjesse Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Yeah, connecting to IRC in general is impossible. Quote
Halt Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 My college does, and doesn't care. lol Wonder why others care. Edit reading this a few days afterward, i don't know what the fuck i was trying to say Edit2: My college doesn't block it at all. Strange though. as Ash said above used for spyware. Quote
Ashamee Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Most colleges block IRC's default 6667 port, since it's easily used for spyware, is what I was told years ago when I worked for my college's IT department. Try using a different port, like 6668. Quote
Jenner Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Tried changing the port to 6668, not getting much in change. I'm still connecting but not going anywhere. Lemme post some pics. Here's my current set up, you can kinda see how the logging screen looks, you can see how it's not listing. Typing in /Join #ocremix does nothing. List does that. I just lost connection and it reloaded and brought up a new window: No channels? Any advice? Please help I wanna chat with you guys ;.; Quote
ella guro Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 My college used to block IRC by default, but all you needed to do was email someone from the network to get yourself added to an unblock list. So you might want to try that. Before that I'd also try a bunch of different ports, not just 6667 and 6668 and see if you have any luck there. Quote
Jenner Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Any ports you can suggest? I have no idea how to E-mail my network peeps or where to even start looking to find that info. I are new to college living. Quote
