Toxie
I am wary of downloading software onto my shiny new computer, but I've been wanting to try out the auto tuner. Does anyone have a solid link where I can get a demo or trial version?

prophetik music
i'd use melodyne over autotune any day of the week. i'm pretty sure you can use it real-time, but i've never tried it.
Moseph
♥♥♥ Melodyne Editor Pretty sure there are freeware pitch correction plug-ins as well, although I don't know them off the top of my head.
Skyline Drop
GVST's GSnap is the only free one I can immediately think of. I have yet to try it.

Moseph
I wish Auto Tuning never came. lol It's great for correcting wrong notes (like it was originally intended for). The Cher effect, which is what everyone now thinks of when they hear the term autotune, is, however, over-used and obnoxious.

That's a funny thing to be "pretty sure" about considering the fundamental distinction between Melodyne and AutoTune is that Melodyne does NOT work in real-time. Benjamin Briggs
GVST's GSnap is the only free one I can immediately think of. I have yet to try it. I use gsnap, mostly because it's free it gets the job done, but it's certainly not a powerhouse plugin or anything
Brycepops
The Cher effect, which is what everyone now thinks of when they hear the term autotune, is, however, over-used and obnoxious. I'm pretty sure everyone calls it the T-Pain effect now.
Strike911
I'm pretty sure everyone calls it the ear-Pain effect now. Fixed. I don't care if I get flak for it, but you know, I can kind of dig the sound that autotune produces, in theory. I like the idea of heavily processed vocals, meshing the machine with a human being. I know it's overused in pop but that synthesized voice produced from vocoders and auto-tune plugins is something the cyberpunk fan in me quietly delights in. Sure, it goes a little overboard in pop to the point where it is indeed annoying, but I'm sure there's SOME kind of unique and interesting creation that can be built from the plugin when people aren't trying to emulate the sounds found in the top 40. Again, I inherently like the idea, but its execution in pop music is getting kind of old. I can also attest to GSnap, although I found it a little difficult to use. I could never get a decent sound out of it, although I have seen people on Youtube using it before. So If you put time into it, sure, still, as someone said above it's not the best thing out there. Price is right though, ha.
Moseph
When it's used sparingly and tastefully, I think it actually sounds good (e.g. Cher's "Believe"). When it's constantly applied to entire vocal passages, it's annoying (e.g. most hip-hop uses I've heard, Daft Punk, etc.)
