Drakken Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 http://8dio.com/ 8dio is having a 25% off everything sale through the end of today, which is a pretty good deal considering their stuff goes up to $500. They make some fantastic virtual instruments; I've been eyeing a bunch of them for awhile now. Picked up their Songwriting Guitar 2.0 for $75 yesterday - it's basically a virtual rhythm guitar (acoustic & electric) that lets you play four of the most commonly used rhythms with any major/minor chord, plus it's got tons of effects. Looks like it'll be great for writing more typical "band" songs. Also really, really want their 1928 Steinway Piano (absolutely beautiful sound), but I'm holding off on spending the money.

EC2151 Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) Since the last day of Kontakt 5 being half off is upon us, and I just got paid, can anyone in a timely fashion tell me if it's worth it? Also, what's the difference between the "update" version ($119) and the complete version ($200) on the site? Answers would be appreciated... Now now, don't laugh; I'm a noob after all... Edited July 7, 2012 by EC2151
Moseph Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) Update is if you have a previous version of Kontakt and want to update to version 5. If you don't have any version of Kontakt, you need the complete option. As far as whether Kontakt is worth it: I don't think it's really worth buying for the included sample libraries; buy it if you're interested in using third party libraries that need Kontakt as a host (for example, stuff from 8Dio, Soniccouture, Soundiron, and Impact Soundworks). Nabeel Ansari Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Possibly the most valuable investment you'll make in your musical career, yes. No other program has quite the benefits except for your DAW itself. Kontakt is the gateway to a lot of nice libraries.
Chimpazilla Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I just bought Damage this afternoon. (half price plus $30 coupon) Should be interesting!
EC2151 Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Man, I just got my hopes up that I could get Kontakt for 100 bucks instead of 200. Lol, now I really gots to ask myself if I'm willing to put down the dough. /firstworldproblems
GallenWolf Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 http://www.embertone.com/ - two free instruments, and the to-buy instruments are low priced, the flute and recorder sounds lovely! Bought a copy of kontakt during the NI sales, FINALLY. I can get access to the libraries I've lusted for.
Meteo Xavier Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Hey, you ain't whistlin' Dixie there, those flutes are NICE. Bookmarked for my instrument list.
EC2151 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Well, thanks for the advice, everyone. I went ahead and plucked two big-ol' Benjamins into getting Kontakt 5. Hopefully, it won't prove to be a fruitless venture!
Calum Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Hey, you ain't whistlin' Dixie there, those flutes are NICE. Bookmarked for my instrument list. fuuuck! The flute! This is very reasonably priced and nice sounding stuff!
Nabeel Ansari Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Native Instruments upgrades, crossgrades, and updates all 50% off. http://www.native-instruments.com/specials/summer-of-sound/ If you own Kontakt or something and want to transfer to Komplete, you can go to regular for $200 or Ultimate for $400. Considering I and many others got Kontakt for $200 (I got 4, 2 years ago for black friday), you're looking at $400 for Komplete in total. That's $100 less through these sales.

Crossgrade to Komplete 8 for $200? I guess I'm buying this instead of all those Steam games. Question: has anyone used Session Strings Pro, and is it any good? Edited July 13, 2012 by Moseph
Nabeel Ansari Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 If you're considering going for Ultimate, then do it. It has so much more in the way of cinematic. (Which Komplete 8 has ZERO of) Regular don't have Session Strings Pro, Evolve Mutations, or Evolve Mutations 2, and I think it's worth it for those alone. (worth the $200 difference in this case, I mean) Still, I am disappointed Komplete has absolutely ZERO cinematic sounds except for the stock Vienna Kontakt orch. stuff. As for if anyone has used Session Strings Pro, I have not, but zircon has Ultimate. You could ask him.
Moseph Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Leaning toward Ultimate, but I've made a new thread on Session Strings.
theshaggyfreak Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) SampleTron is on sale for $29 for the next week. It's pretty nice if you're looking for some Mellotron or Optigan sounds. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/promos/index.php?item_id=1337 BTW, make sure you grab the free version of Sampletank 2 if you get this. The version that you get with SampleTron is rather old. I had issues with it crashing in Reaper but all works well with the current version of Sampletank 2. Edited August 1, 2012 by theshaggyfreak
Dissidia Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 http://www.g-sonique.com/shop.html Sale ends 15th August. There's demos to try them out yourself. Renegade is something I'll most likely pick up and possibly Pultronic-EQ110P
Nabeel Ansari Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 http://www.native-instruments.com/#/specials/komplete-plus-3/ If you buy Komplete THIS or next month (meaning you register the serial THIS month and next month only) you now get Razor, Session Strings, and The Mouth for free. Meaning if you just upgraded a week ago like me, sucks for you (and me).
GallenWolf Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 50% off http://www.store.precisionsound.net/index.php Tempted by some of the winds.....
Nabeel Ansari Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 http://www.audiomidi.com/Steven-Slate-Drums-ESSENTIAL-No-Brainer/dp/B008XLA2N8 Steven Slate Essential is $20. It's its own VST too.
Meteo Xavier Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I thought about that, but then again I already have MOR and Studio Drummer and Battery 3 - probably should be time I learn to use those effectively.
