Fratto
Just to let everyone know, the first arrangement is under way Also, if there are any arrangers out there, please do send your work in! Awesome. What chart are you arranging? With the possibility of playing all four bone parts, I'd love to get practicing. That feels weird to say. theshaggyfreak
I'm still working on getting my chops back a bit on my fretless. In the mean time, I played bass on this entire album some years ago. It's not exactly big band stuff by a long shot but it shows I can play a bit. I have no problems reading charts and chord changes. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/tempotantrum
Wiesty
Hey, thanks for the interest! Even if your fretless skills are not up to par, itd be cool if you could send me a sample of you reading some chord changes in maybe some jazz/funk styles on whatever bass youre comfortable with! Wiesty
Hey everyone, Just wanted to announce some big and exciting news! We have found a bassist who will grace us with his presence! I'd like to welcome audiofidelity to the group! Jay is a fantastic and versatile bassist who I've had the pleasure to work with in years past. Secondly, I'd like to officially welcome C7 to our group as a our second trumpet player! He sent me some demo material a few days ago and I am looking very forward to working with him! With those two announcements, it means that we have enough musicians to start doing some recording! We are still looking for another trumpet player and a couple more trombones, but with what we have now, we can definitley start making some music. Therefore I'm officially putting the invitation out to arrangers to start bringing forth some music for us to play! Music submitted must be accompanied with scores, and should be written for such an ensemble such as ours, or a fragment of it ( i.e. rhythm section + 2 horns etc.). Genre is not extremely important, as long as it fits the instrumentation provided. Lots of big stuff happening folks! Up and onwards! Xenon Odyssey
Fratto, are you playing bass trombone as well? If so, Wiesty, you should specify that in the first post. Just like an alto sax and a tenor sax are two different instruments, so are trombone and bass trombone. C7, thanks for the range info! I would suggest to the other horns to post theirs as well, so any arrangers won't have to write too conservatively (the saxes can be cut and dry, but anyone with altissimo capabilities should say so, unless they'd be more comfortable only utilizing those notes in an improvisation). Now, time to pick a source! Choices, choices...
Wiesty
So far I have a pretty good idea of peoples ranges, but I shall collect these and create a info sheet or something like that. I made sure when I was recruiting that most of the horn players had decent ranges

Wiesty
As of now Fratto is our Tenor, Alto, and Bass trombonist.....and some occasional sackbut.
SuperiorX
Hey, just found this thread and yeah this is an awesome idea! If you guys are looking for arrangement ideas, I think it would be awesome to hear a big band/jazz version of from Sonic 2. It's practically begging for it. This was an arrangement I was considering undertaking myself and recruiting for, but I don't really have the time right now, and if there is now a OCR big band group forming anyway... The song would require a Frank Sinatra style crooner to be able to belt out some awesome vocals. I don't want to volunteer anyone, but this is definitely something Jesse Deacon (Xarnax42) could handle. Just listen to Calum's FF6 song ("Blackjack's Breakup Bossa") he sang on for zircon's FF6 album contest and you'll understand You'd also need some gratuitous sax and trumpet solos (for sure). I'd be willing to help write an arrangement if anyone were interested. I can play/sequence piano too, but it looks like you guys already have that covered. theshaggyfreak
Alright, I went ahead and threw down a little groove. There's no editing at all and this is a single take. https://www.dropbox.com/s/js7oimzbzzzo9xq/bassimprov.mp3

D'awww, thanks. I would love to help out however I can. I've got a couple months left on deployment, but after that, I'm planning on investing in some better recording equipment and should have pretty good availability. I'd link to the track Matt mentioned, but tindeck is inexplicably blocked on this network, but it's under the account zirconmusic, FF6 Contest Track 3 (Blackjack). Wiesty
Yes, for all of you interested we are looking for a female and male vocalist. You would not be recording as much as the instrumentalists but would still have a spot on the crew. Send inyour demos!
C7
I look forward to seeing some arrangements come in! I think it'll be a ton of fun to play, and it should be neat playing beside a good Sir.

I did a Casino Night Zone big band arrangement a few years ago. It was a simple arrangement that I left a huge solo section for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmBAf3i-nfg

SuperiorX
I did a Casino Night Zone big band arrangement a few years ago. It was a simple arrangement that I left a huge solo section for.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmBAf3i-nfg That's really funny cause I actually stumbled upon this video on youtube when I was searching to see if anyone had made a big band/jazz Casino Night mix before, that's hilarious that that is you!! But yeah, this would sound friggen awesome with live instruments and some expanded/refined solo sections. Definitely need to expand the vocals too. I like what you did there, but I'd love to hear some Frank Sinatra-esque crooning going on in there too Nice job. Make this happen guys! EDIT: rofl, reading the comments on youtube and I don't get why people were bitching about the scatting. That stuff was great. Get Sir Jordanius on that pronto, he knows how to make cool mouth noises. Edited August 8, 2012 by SuperiorX
Wiesty
I'm going to make it my personal goal to keep "crooining" to a minimum in this group
Fratto
EDIT: rofl, reading the comments on youtube and I don't get why people were bitching about the scatting. That stuff was great. The comments are probably because it's kinda bad and extremely out of tune on every sustained note. Not to piss in your cereal or anything. Looking forward to playing some big band! Calum
gotta agree with fratto and youtube - perhaps someone coud do a better performance but THAT melody is such a sung melody - it sounds like it needs words so much! I say scrap the scat and lets write some massive cheese and get someone to sing it.
