Hey, this is Mr. Skitch with my first, er.... remix. I've heard some of the stuff on the site and alot of it is better than mine, but I want to give it a shot with this rocked-up/Van Halen-esique version of "In Zanarkand". Anyways, thanks for listening!-

Okay first of all, you're using FL Slayer. It's very hard to get FL Slayer to sound good, and unfortunately in this case, you've succumbed to the trap that most of us fall in, with the piercing subpar sound apparent as the mole on my face.

Secondly, this here is way too close to the source material, it's pretty much a midi rip in the sense that the piano is identical, the guitar is following the melodyline exactly. The only other things you've added are some basic dry drums and the occasional bassline which is also following the melody line too instead of just applying the bass key. I'll direct you to the standards:

OCR Guidelines[/url'>]In terms of arrangement - how close or distant ReMixes should be to the original - the general rule is that the ReMix should be YOURS. We don't just mean that you were involved in its creation, but that it is different enough from the original so as to readily illustrate the contributions, modifications, and enhancements you have made. In other words, don't just take the original and drop a few drum loops on top. Also, don't simply take a MIDI file and assign new instruments to the parts, or add reverb, and expect that to pass as 'yours'. When we say 'ReMix', we actually mean something closer to 're-arrangement', if that helps clarify.

Overall, not amazingly bad for your first, er.... remix. ;) Feel free to poke around in the ReMixing forum for help with your remixing, and also I recommend posting things in the Work In Progress forum to get some feedback from other mixers on the site before submitting to the panel.

Yeah, I agree with the Override. To note, the guy tried to alter some of the phrasing, and added some slight rhythmical alterations. So he tried to add some embellishments, and not only just swap instruments and add beats, but this was generally the original in new clothes and not substantially arranged. Very inferior to the source tune. Follow the guidelines.
