djpretzel
email sub file Space_Harrier_II_Illusions_of_Grandeur.mp3 Hi guys! I've always been a huge fan of classic Sega games and their music, especially anything by Tokuhiko "Bo" Uwabo. I thought it would be cool to work with a tune from Space Harrier II, as that game is somewhat under-represented on OCR with only one mix, so I chose the music from the game's finale called "Illusion". My version is entitled "Illusions of Grandeur" and can be found here: I tried to keep the feel of the original tune intact for the first part of the song, and then branch out a bit into new territory in the second. I hope you like it Here are my particulars... Liontamer
http://www.zophar.net/gym/spaceha2.rar - "Illusion" (016.gym) Pretty basic instrumentation to open things off with. Really reminds me of some of the much older OCR material. Wish the percussion had more creativity here, as it's not much different or better than the original. Arrangement was basically an expansive cover like the submission letter implied. Some strings dropped in to add more to the package at 1:45, but the arrangement basically retread itself until 3:01. The synth/drum pattern first used at 1:34 droned on and on and on from 2:36 until 4:22/the end. Probably could have made it many, many years ago simply off the sound quality relative to other things being posted at the time, but the arrangement substance isn't there. Everything needs more creativity, variation and personalization. Not a poorly-made track, but not up to par. NO
DarkeSword
Those strings remind me of Mark Vera's Star Orion. <3 It's like this song is trying to be spacesynth, but doesn't quite make it. The lead is overpowering everything and the drums are pretty basic. Towards the end it really just starts repeating itself. Needs more variation and attention paid to balancing elements of the song. GrayLightning
Pretty basic instrumentation to open things off with. Really reminds me of some of the much older OCR material..... Not just in the beginning. The entire mix suffers from sounding too sparse. Might have worked if there was a little more reverb, a la 80s style, but at this point, I'd like to hear some more things going on. Everything needs more creativity, variation and personalization. Not a poorly-made track, but not up to par. Bingo. I do enjoy this mix, but that's because I love Space Harrier, but from an objective standpoint, this really needs more arrangement ideas brought to the table to integrate with the mix as it is. Compositionally I'd like to see more additions done underlying the melody. Production is fine, but it's vanilla. I'd like to hear some fx processing here, or delays, something to spice things up. If I were you, I would post this in our OCR WIP/Completed forum for further general feedback and continue to rework this mix for a resubmission. But, this needs quite a bit of work in my view before you should consider that. NO
