Taking Soundbites from Shows and Movies

So I'm thinking about sticking in a Japanese version of a soundbite from an anime show into the beginning of one of my tracks, but I have no earthly idea what the copyright deal is with that, especially since I'm commercially selling this project. I'm not sure how safe I am doing so. Anyone know the answer?

My gut says no. I think I recall Japanese copyright to be really strange.

I'm 99% sure that any voice clips or other sound within an episode of the show will belong to the company that owns/made the thing and to use it, you would need permission from the animation company.

Assuming copyright law in Japan is anything like it is in the US, this is definitely correct.

haha I think that's enough confirmation to tell me I'll need some permission to take any of that stuff. Probably won't bother to do so. The track can easily go without it. Just may have added to the effect. Thanks guys.
