Meteo Xavier
I read somewhere on here recently that soundfonts require effects to make them sound good and more believable. What are some suggestions, recommendations, ideas for this?
Skrypnyk
It all depends on what the soundfont is: --> Extra eqing on the font could help. --> Adding reverb can give it realistic room (as long as you don't over do it) --> Adding chorus on strings can make them sound fuller --> Adding distortion to a guitar might help with the heavy metal sound You don't have to just use FX either. Varying the velocities in the notes would help make it a piano more realistic, pitch bending a slight vibrato on a guitar wouldn't hurt, off timing notes by 1/6 of a second can also help. I believe zircon made a tut at one point on how to make a piano sound real. Esentially it's the same with most any other insturment.
Splunkle
FX is often needed regardless of the synth or sample - it depends on what sound you are going for. Why do people thnk soundfonts are special? They are just a sample format; that is all they are. To get an idea of when to use FX, read Zircon's guide on the matter, its in the stickies. That should at least point you in the right direction. Cerrax
--> Extra eqing on the font could help. I always find my self doing this on every instrument to make the mix sound as good and balanced as I see fit.

DZComposer
Why do people thnk soundfonts are special? They are just a sample format; that is all they are. Probably because most people that use them don't know that anything else exsists. That and they don't want to spend the $200+ for other formats (sometimes a sample player isn't included in the price).
